Carmi,a bountiful place so says the Bible. Yes carmi through its origins has been a bountiful place of wealth and prosperity at one time. An abundance of white iak and hard wood timbers and a mill ,the wealth of very fertile soil deposits from the recession of an ancient glacier ,that attributes to the abundance of corn ,beans and wheat. So prominent farmers got the three fold blessings of crops,oil and natural gas,and eventually coal production on the land that they leased or sold. Carmi was my childhood home and it retains a nostalgic heart felt memories of my dearly departed family. Though being the county seat ,i must say the old town looks like it died and went to hell in a hand basket. Coming into carmi from Crossville and to the east river bridge looks like a grave yard of deceased oil field equipment and old vehicles. The 1970,s proved carmi to be a major party town for the transitioning of lsd,pink either based meth,and tons of pot through out southern illinoi. At that time
