At age 18 i read Crime and Punishment... I was working at a boat dock and pumping fuel into boats that stopped before going out on the Lake. I would have 5 minutes to 10 minutes in between boats and sometimes 30 minutes of down time. Perfect job for reading 4 hours per day when working 8 to 10 hour shifts. I was on a Russian history reading kick and added Crime and Punishment to my backpack. I have 1 copy of it now. I will read a 2nd time soon.

Forgot.... at that time I would have gave the book a 9.5 out of 10. It was one of my favorite books. That Summer I also read Alex Haley's Roots... the history of a Slave getting caught in Africa and the long Boat ride across the Atlantic Ocean. Then being Sold and being property of a another human. I think Roots is 800 or 900 pages... maybe even a bit longer. I enjoyed that book also.

As a child growing up in the UK, Enid Blyton's books, and especially The Famous Five were a must-read in our household. At a recent visit to a local thrift store, here in Canada I found a 1970's paperback of Five Go Down To The Sea (Book 12) with the same cover we once had. Nostalgia kicked in, and it had to come home! I haven't read Billy's biography, but we have watched all his "world tour" videos where the series follows Billy travelling around the country meeting people and inserting segments from his comedy shows. He even did one about you fine blokes down under. Congratulations on the 1000+ subscribers. Thoroughly deserved , and your channel is a great "hang-out"!

I've only read two of those books so far, but I do have Warlock and Billy in my rather lengthy TBR. I enjoyed all the books in His Dark Materials, without really having a favourite. I did enjoy Mostly Harmless but thought it was an anti-climax. Just as well the Douglas Adams Estate commissioned Eoin Colfer to write ...And Another Thing, which is the sixth book in the trilogy. It is very much in the style of Douglas Adams and a very enjoyable read.

Have you read the Rama books? The first was written by Arthur C Clarke, and the three following books in collaboration with Gentry Lee. I think the trilogy of books were better than the first. Certainly there was more scope to expand on the original idea! A thoroughly enjoyable read and worth adding to the tbr.

I read the Sword of Shannara after reading The Elfstones of Shannara - which was my first foray into Fantasy, then read the Lord of the Rings. Slowly and surely I am building up my Tolkien library. In my teens, I read the belgariad series. What a joy to read. At local thrift stores, I was able to pick up the books on Polgara and Belgarath, so will be reading those after a re-read of the first 5. I am so grateful for thrift stores and book fairs, as who can afford to build a library at today's prices? Thanks to those places, I picked up the full Wheel of Time series, with most being in the old style covers and a half dozen hardcovers. I love the artwork of Darrell K Sweet. He was also the original artist for L E Modesitt Jr "The Magic of Recluce" series. A great fantasy series that practically no-one has picked up on. The overall arc of the books covers about 1,500 years with a variety of characters and a fantastic magic system. I read that series starting with the first published book, then followed the series chronologically rather than published, as he does jump around with the timeline. In my opinion, he handles technology changes over the years better than Terry Brooks does in his later Shannara books. But in regards to the prequel series of Shannara, as to how the world became the four lands is absolutely brilliant and a joy to read.

I’m looking forward to the genesis of Shannara. My next Brooks to read is the Word and the Void series. Would like to read the Recluce series at some stage. And re second hand books, yeah of my 2000 books, about 95% or more are second hand

Brooks.,Eddings, and Wiess and Hickman and Tolkien...since reading their series I've struggled to find others I enjoy as much.. Reading magician atm and getting bogged down in it.

Hi! Good day! I wrote a novel, titled: Archangel world at war. I watched your informative videos and it's my pleasure that someday you will consider to review my book on one of your vlogs. It was not edited yet, nevertheless I published it to major EReading apps like Amazon and Kobo. Thank you in advance. Hopefully I can send you a physical copy in the final format of my book in the future. God bless.

Bradbury could certainly swerve into ‘literary’ territory that could diminish the storytelling impetus, but remember he broke out of the pulps and published largely in slick magazines like The Saturday Evening Post (as I recall), so his titles had a broader appeal than the sf world. Appreciate your thoughts on these three books - you are missing the real progenitor tho, Zamyatin’s We, from the 1920s, that these authors found inspiration from.

There are plenty of recent editions, but I recommend the Cannongate ed from 2020, which includes an intro by Margaret Atwood of Handmaids Tale fame, a famous essay by Ursula LeGuin, and a reprint of a review from 1940s by … George Orwell!
