Walking the Camino Finisterre / Muxía in June 2024
0:00 Santiago - Negreira
4:42 Negreira - Olveiroa
9:30 Olveiroa - Fisterra
15:24 Fisterra - Muxia
After arriving in Santiago from the Primitivo route, we set off with our new friend Ivan to the coast. First to Fisterra, and then onwards to Muxía.
I had known about Fisterra as being an alternate end point for a long time. However it was only during our first camino that I started to hear about this place, ‘Muxía’. Many pilgrims who I respected very much were encouraging me to go. For them, Muxia is the spiritual end of the road. We had to see for ourselves.
It was good to walk with Ivan. I appreciate his American optimism - it went a long way to temper some of our British cynicism. He has an infectious quality of always looks to get as much as possible from every experience. I also appreciate his genuine encouragement for me to pursue this video project. I was glad to share this way with him.

    Great video! I am doing the Primitivo on August and I'm not sure if I will go on public or private albergues. How crowded did you find the Camino?

    • @robinfrench1914
      @robinfrench1914 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@stroke6234 hey there, that’s great you’ll have such a good time. In May/early June it was quite busy but never felt crowded. We always stayed in municipal albergues. It never felt like there was a ‘bed race’ - though they did fill up as the day went on. If you walk at an average pace you shouldn’t have a problem finding a bed in the municipals. If you’re slower maybe booking can give you some peace of mind. I think though you’d be very unlucky if you turn up in a town and couldn’t find a bed anywhere - if the municipal is full there will almost certainly be other albergues with space. Worse comes to worse you could jump in a taxi somewhere where there is space. I love the public albergues because it feels authentic - and I met lots of interesting people. I also like the flexibility that comes from not booking - you just go with the flow. When you arrive on the Primitivo and you’re actually on the ground I think you’ll quickly be able to gauge what works best for you. It’s hard to imagine when you’re at home planning, but when you’re there in person, it’ll all fall into place. Buen Camino!

    I just returned home to the Central Coast of California , We were on the Camino at the same time, well done but never crossed paths with you. Pilgrims need to speak out about all the Rubbish/Garbage/Basura that hikers are throwing right on the trail! along the sides of the trail! It is DISGUSTING! Cigarette Boxes everywhere! Beer Cans Everywhere! Toilet Paper Everywhere! Kleenex/ Snot Paper! Everywhere! Empty Water Bottles Everywhere!The villages leave huge colored garbage containers EVERYWHERE! What's going on between the ears of these Filthy Careless Walkers!! All I can say is it is SHAMELESS! and Pathetic! After leaving Santiago towards Finisterre the garbage was almost ZERO!! Please this issue needs to be addressed or the locals will start taking action against everyone not just the Polluters! I will be returning next year in April to finish a section I had to pass on due to an injury, Leon to Sarria, other than that I am thru with the France and only hope the Portuguese and the Primitiva are not as cluttered with garbage from thoughtless, horrible people .

      It’s a pity we didn’t cross paths. You’re absolutely right about the rubbish on the trail. We met a few people who were carrying bin bags to pick up rubbish along the way, I wish I had done more of that. But the change has to be with the people who are littering of course. The Frances is so popular I think people get away with a lot of bad behaviour. I expect you’re right about the other routes, people hiking those will probably be more conscientious.

    • @robinfrench1914
      @robinfrench1914 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed a lot of these things can take away from the experience. I have to say though, this particular vending machine after Roncesvalles saved our lives. It was very early in the morning, freezing cold and no cafes were open… that little 1euro coffee was so welcome it tasted absolutely amazing and thus became a highlight of the trip for me haha! I do take your point though. I imagine some of the other Camino routes may be less popular and therefore a little less ‘commercial’ feeling than the Francés can be at times. On the whole though none of these aspects were enough to ruin the trip for me I still think it’s an amazing route.

The service manual does not even discuss it. @@robinfrench1914 HI, Yes used spanner but cannot remove plug all the way…and not enough to drain any oil. It’s a 2012 V7 Racer. I find it odd that I would have to remove exhaust..but that is easy- just annoying. I wonder why they do not address it in the manual. Gear oil doe does not get contaminated and lasts a long time. Maybe they just assume you will remove the exhaust and do the change every 12000 mile or so? LOL…I do not see any damage (warp or bending ) to the crossover pipe but I serioously think my Pitbull leverage tragel musdt be hitting that pipe and I am not sensing it when I lift the bike. The Pitbull I have is made especially for the V7 given its cross brace at the bottom. I did not have the patience to further investigate any interference there and just decided I would look into it at the next fluid change in 3000 km or so ….Thanks again for your help with this Robin…..Louis, Canada

      @@louismartin4446 Ah I see, yes it's a bit of a faff to have to remove the exhaust just for this job. Nice one, thanks Louis.
