Pan Am last take off and wing salute at LHR 3rd april 1991
one minute Pan Am were there the next they were gone for ever but what a wonderful respectful fly past with wing tip a fitting tribute to the end of Pan am association with LHR

    By not following the law, and checking on board luggage with actual on board passengers, THEY caused the loss of Flight 103! Terrible what they DIDNT do!!

    It's funny in the video how one employee mentions to another "it's no wonder we're losing money." Even the video producers knew they were making a video for a sinking ship.

    Loved watching this but what is strange to me is it’s all what not to do but no examples of where or when the employees should have these discussions. I’m assuming this video was part of some live in- person training to go over what you SHOULD do or how you SHOULD handle these situations?

    Pan Am last flight from anywhere should have always been on a 747, not an Airbus, or, as a minimum a 707 from somewhere, otherwise it just does not feel right. After all Pan Am was the first to introduce both types!

    My 2 best flights; were my first, Swiss Air from Johannesburg to Zurich in 1992 and then later on a BA flight from Houston to London, where I joined the mile high club on a 747 in 1999, for the Millennium. I wished at the time I had had money to fly the Concorde. I didn't, but if I did I wouldn't have joined the mile high club.

    There was a PanAm 727-200 (and an Eastern 727-200) stores at Hagerstown Maryland Regional Airport Near where I live it was stored there for a while. They are no longer there (Think they were scrapped) I think I heard the PanAm 727 had all leather seats (I think PanAm Shuttle had leather seats through the cabin?) here is a link showing the Eastern and PanAm 727 at Hagerstown. Wonder if the 737s PanAm had from Air Florida kept the Air Florida Interior www.jetphotos.com/showphotos.php?location=Hagerstown+Regional+Airport+-+KHGR

    In my years of experience with various employers speech like this stems from management down. Oftentimes it starts with excessive cost-cutting and poor management and trickles down to the employees. It becomes apparent in their exasperation while struggling to remain positive despite threats of further employee and benefit reductions. Pan Am did this to themselves to a great extent by their poor decisions of yesteryear.

    • @mrtodd3620
      @mrtodd3620 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is some truth to that. The 747 was certainly glamorous, but PanAm should have disposed of them in favor of smaller aircraft.

    • @Adam-vk8pf
      @Adam-vk8pf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrtodd3620 there is some truth to your comment too. The smaller planes of their era were still inefficient, so running those were still expensive. It was pan am 103 and the oil crisis that killed pan am, rather than the planes thenselves.

    My airline ---Brings tears to my eyes - I flew London trips frequently --they were seven days long, out of Miami - our base - There will never be another Pan Am. We flew to Heathrow & then had a long layover at The Sheraton Park Towers - then on to Washington D. C, with a long layover - then back to London for another shorter layover & then turnarounds to Frankfurt - layover in London & the next day fly back, to Miami.

    They dont mention safety as it is priority one. Customer service is a add on. Pretty girls where given priority at that time. After 33 years with American I have had to use my safety skills to save lives a fire in the cabin and un planned evacuation. A old timer who came over from a different carrier never went to ART. How ? I have no idea. She did not even know where the halon extinguisher was in her section and how to use it. She used it as she did not properly assess the surroundings and injured a passenger.

      Nope, not by a long stretch - it was called customer service and it still counts. Flew Emirates in Jan 2021 and it was just like herding cattle onto a bus and the trolly dollies aka air stewards disappeared into their crew quarters one hour into a 11 hour flight and only seen again one hour before landing.
