    11:00-13:15 In the scene which Detective Park takes one last look around at the police station and goes to shake Detective Seo's hand in the interrogation room was deleted from the movie. Seo then blankly stares at the interrogation chair while the desk lamp flickers, tears are seen coming down his face. An unknown figure puts their hand on his shoulder and Seo turns around to look at the person whose identity isn't revealed. According to Bong Joon-ho, this could be Park Hyun-gyu, some other criminal, or the representation of absolute evil. It was the only scene out of the entire movie with a supernatural element to it and didn't fit with the rest of the film, so ultimately it was cut out. This took place after the scene in the tunnel and before it fast forwards to 2003. Bong Joon-ho and actor Kim Sang-kyung talked in depth about this scene and how he should act it, he prepared for months to get the performance just right. Thinking about all the hard work the actor put into it and finally having to cut it out brought tears to Bong Joon-ho's eyes.

    11:30 until the end is a clear influence from Kurosawa's CURE

    • @bravonolan
      @bravonolan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of my favourite films, I mean MOM is special, I'll probably never tire to watch the whole movie every year but don't get me wrong like if I'm asked which one I'd prefer between Cure and MOM then it's definitely Cure; I'm not trying to compare but just want to express how good Kurosawa is...Have you watched his recent one?

    • @GustavoXDmais
      @GustavoXDmais 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bravonolan I just watched the CURE hahah. In fact, I watched it precisely because of my love for MOM (and all Bong's filmography, right?). The other films I'm interested in are PULSE, TOKYO SONATA and SÉANCE. I enjoyed CURE a lot, less when I watched it for the 1st time and more over the days while I remembered the movie. It's actually very mesmerizing, hein? But I still prefer MOM, if I were to choose between these two. MOM and MOTHER (titles coincidence!) are some of my favorite movies in life.

    • @bravonolan
      @bravonolan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GustavoXDmais Watched cure multiple times, same goes for MOM and I wasn't comparing MOM with Cure head to head as both are different films for me, I just wanted you to know how much I love Cure too as you mentioned here and there's no way Bong is comparable with Kiyoshi. Bong's quality went down after he came to hollywood and Mother was his last actual good film for me. Almost same can be said for Kiyoshi Kurosawa, he isn't also up to his mark for a decade or so but at least he isn't ahem ahem a "sellout" though I've some hope for his recent tv movie- wife of a spy, sitting for over 6 months now...Anyway, if you're still remembering Cure then you should check out other J-horrors because Cure had released just before the over the top J-Horror popularity burst out haha, his Pulse also falls into that category. EDIT: If you ever start to watch J-Horror specifically Ringu 1998 then I'd highly recommend to check out its audio commentary and I think Noroi aka Curse is another J-horror which seems underrated I mean I've seen very few people to know or to talk about it but I love that film, better than most tried hard j-horrors.

      @@bravonolan Oh!, I really enjoy this last decade from Bong; I find OKJA satisfactory and PARASITIC pretty good, but SNOWPIERCER? One of my favorite movies, no doubt haha I'll try to see more about RINGU, because I didn't like it at the first I watch =/ I just came to like it a little more on a rewatch. Since last year I had intended to watch the entire franchise in release order, but I stopped at SPIRAL, which, despite everything, I think has some very interesting concepts. NOROI is another movie I'm interested in. In movie groups, sometimes they comment quite enthusiastically about him. Thanks for the reccomendations! Thanks for this video too!

    • @bravonolan
      @bravonolan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GustavoXDmais Didn't like Okja at all. Snowpiercer was okay I mean not bong tier and Parasite is good but not flawless I mean he went for the audiences accessibility priority unlike his Mother and MOM as well as lots of politically created hype made my expectations to mom mother level so, later disappointments had hit the floor. For me, he betrayed many audiences even including himself. Probably nothing will beat Memories of Murder, maybe it was made from his heart and upper level of his creativity and time, nothing forced or something like that. Another EDIT: I hope you know that many of the atmosphere and story telling of MOM was inspired by Alan Moore's From Hell graphic novel. Bong told that it helped him a lot. I'm also afraid if he doesn't turn himself into another Nolan or he's like that from the beginning who knows...

    I love this movie! Seen it like 20 times but I always wondered why Detective Park never checked when they interrogate Park Hyeon-gyo if he was a " baldie down there " like he suspected the murderer was.. But now I know. He did check, they just cut that out of the final version.

    I’m assuming these clips came from an extended version of the movie. I believe that Bong Joon Ho cut these scenes out so that there is more ambiguity towards who the killer b/c some of these scenes point toward the factory worker as the killer The first clip (6:50-7:40) showed more of the initial interrogation of the factory worker. Detective Park pulls down the factory worker's pants and underwear to see if he has any pubic hair which he does not. This reinforces Detective Park’s claim that the reason the killer did not leave any pubic hairs on the victims was b/c the killer was bald down there. The other video clip (10:30-13:14) takes place after Detective Seo almost kills the factory worker but lets him go into the “dark” train tunnel. Detective Park is cleaning out his desk (leaving the police force b/c he can’t “see” criminals anymore) and then he goes down to the basement interrogation room and to say his farewell to Detective Seo who is staring blankly at the empty interrogation chair. A few seconds after Detective Park leaves the lamp on the interrogation desk begins to flicker for almost a full minute-lightness and darkness as the camera pans toward the empty chair and then back to Detective Seo’s face as he begins to cry. To me the flickering lights say everything- the detectives had the killer w/in their grasps (he was in the "light") but couldn't convict him primarily b/c of all the chaos (darkness) that was going on not only w/in themselves and the police force (arresting and beating “suspects” into confessions, lack of good forensics, relying on rumors, innuendos, and magic to solve cases) but also w/in Korean society as a whole during that time (violent clashes btwn the govt and protestors, class struggles, and most important an extremely misogynistic society) . So in the end, the truth (or true killer) was there right in front of them but they couldn’t keep him. By deleting those scenes from the movie we have much more doubt about the factory worker’s guilt. So in essence we aren’t any closer to determining who the killer is which mirrors what was going on in 2003 when the movie was released- the killings had stopped but the killer had never been identified.
