Not long bought a ScaleTrains SD40-2B. I have another brand locomotive, Tsunami2...... When the loco(GP38-2) has reached the top of the grade on my layout, with my NCE throttle, I choose F27 and the loco notches down. I continue to go F27 until Im happy with what ever notch I want. If I dont choose Dyn.Brake then I choose F26 and the engine revs back up....one notch at a time , as in F26,F26.F26. Now....this ST 40-2. I do the same. Notch down, notch down after reaching the top of the grade....F27, F27,F27. But! The 40-2B notches down to idle then notches back to Run 8. Must say it sounds great but then after reaching Run 8, it goes back to idle one notch at a time. Then back to Run 8. Any ideas? Im a retired Loco Engineer and like to run my models the way I drove the real locos.

A great concept that has been around for a long time, in the early 50’s Toy Trains Magazine offered cut out buildings and false fronts. Inexpensive ways to add buildings to your layout

So many great techniques and options! I often use layers of pigments diluted in rubbing alcohol to create a more tactile affect then I add a couple very small drops of silicone oil down he center to simulate oil drippings from vehicles and equipment transported by the car over the years. For the laser cut wood deck kits I often use a razor saw to deepen the cuts to make it appear old and worn. The first part in weathering the deck is adding black pigment to the deck so it settles in the individual board cuts to add the perception of depth. If I don’t like it, I can wash it off with warm soapy water and once dry, try again. I also have the option of using acrylic paints and layering them on to my desire. Some railroads are in climates where the sun isn’t affecting the wood decks as much as a railroad in Arizona might have and most older flatcars will have a lot of damage and replaced boards that forms a quilt like appearance so I often cut gouges in various areas to simulate heavy use and replaced board sections. The goal is to not go too far in modifying the deck to the point where it looks ridiculous, just go easy and experiment with other things first. Some folks even use a common computer printer to print an image and glue it to the deck where it looks very real.

Please can you give me some needed infos about the power suply? Is that AC or DC Power of how much Voltage going to the Input Connector of the NCE Panel? I ask this, because here in Central Europe we do use a different primary AC Voltage of 230 Volts of AC power. Much better would be NCE would sell their NCE Power Cab for Continental European Customers with 230 V AC power pack. At Great Britain they are using 240 Volts of AC Power, what is very different to the rest of the Continental Europe inside the EU = European Community.

Just got a Rapido N scale FP9A and the drive hold does not work as well as that. Hmmm. Definitely not as responsive as that and when I do get it to notch up it will cycle, nothing up and down, up and down, without touching the drive hold button.

It’s a great layout for a Pennsylvania fan I saw it in an issue of O gauge MAG. Years ago. The video you shot was great the only problem with it was it was too short and you didn’t get a chance to look over the entire layout it’s like what happened it would be nice to see the entire layout and the track plan anyway thanks for showing the video.

Hi Guys Im a U.K.ho American model railroader & use NCE Pro cab, Ive just fitted a NWSL Stanton spud type motor in my Brass M190 S.F, & Im having trouble getting my ESU Sound decoder to run properly. Ive had no other problems with my other loco ESU installations. My M190 first was very slow to start & stop so I put the correct cvs in then it went fast & jerkey no control at all. so after seeing this you tube info I tried cv 54 the bell sounded after a fast start like you said & its still uncontrolable. Ive tried lots of other cv & still havent got it working.. I changed the sound decoder for nonsound & it works fine I also went back to DC & it runs superb. but I want to use my ESU DECODER which are the best.... Ive got them in all my other locos sorry this is so long but Im now desperate for some info

Question, how to use this function while using the cab on the LokSound firmware? The F1 just turns lights on and off. Do you have to put this on a program track with your DCC system, in my case CVP? This doesn't seem make sense. Thanks for any help. Cheers,

So to be clear, after writing "0" to CV54 using program on the main (NCE throttle/cab), do we exit the program mode then press F1? Didn't work for me! Can this process by used on any brand decoder or just ESUs?
