2015 Traverse follow up video. (reduced power intermittent) I think we got it. If you have a gm product with a fuse box that looks like this one you can check it by trying to tighten the two bolts. If the bolts just spin and don’t tighten back off the bolts and replace with all threaded bolts or make spacers to go under the heads of yours. I know most people aren’t having a soldering emergency this morning but it never hurts to learn something new. I never knew that soldering flux was pine rosin until recently. I learned it by watching a practicing tin smith that does historic recreations of tin work on You Tube. I’ve built things all my life and what has allowed me to do it is always being open to new ways to cut, measure, faste...

Thanks great video
Thanks for sharing. I'm about to change this out on my 2013 that I just had an engine swap done on.
Thanks
Great information thank you

Thank you for the this channel.. I have question not relevant to the issue you are fixing here.. Since the fuse box layout is clear on this video, can you help me how to change the dc fuse so the cigar lighter doesn’t work 24/7 but only once the car starts up? I have seen other chevy and GMC videos which shows how to do it but unfortunately they were on different models that have different fuse box.. Many thanks for the help

OMG !!! you're my HERO !! I've been chasing a intermittent misfire on 2-4-6 for two weeks on a 2010 buick enclave. The car quit running for a friend over a year ago. I've dpent about 600 dollars on used pcm,bcm and fuel module AND a 200 trip to a dealer that got it running... anyhooo...I saw your video and the screws were LOOSE. I cut washers and installed them ... tahhhh dahhhhh no more misfires..THANK YOUUUUUUU !!
Don’t feel bad it took me 6 weeks to find it. I’m glad it helped.
You can move the gear out to clean it by turning the drivers side wheel. I was able to make this belt change with little issue, but now I'm getting a clunk when the power steering engages. Is there a way to adjust the torque sensor?

Thanks , great video, not stupid music or BS, JUST THE FACTS Thanks again
If you cant take the rack off you dont need to be doing this. 😂 He aint lying.
did you try it?
Do you know anywhere that sells the recirculating ball/ gear/ bearings assembly? I can buy belts, seals, but not the gear..
I’m sorry I don’t but how many miles did you have on the vehicle? if you. have a parts house your friendly with see if they have a core you could trade out with. Or wrecking yard.
My power steering works good on my 2011 4wd F150 but it makes a terrible growling noise when turning the wheels.
does it have electric or hydraulic steering
It electric, I figured the bearings are going out.
Do you have the link for the belt?@@cookingintheshopwithmark1222
Awesome!!! Worked for me after I replaced the TBS and the Accelerator Sensor, the problem came right back. Did your little trick and Wala!!! Fixed!!! Thank you for putting this video up! Its the only one I found to correct this problem!! 7/28/24
You’re welcome I’m glad it worked for you. Sorry it took so long to respond I’m closing my shop Retiring.
@@cookingintheshopwithmark1222 Good for you! I'm retired too! Hope you have some good hobbies and enjoy your retirement!
Wow you know what you are a genius! I am not a mechanic and am a single mom. I spent $700 for a new fuse box and installed it but the bolts on mine are loose too. When I replaced it it worked great but not that it’s probably loose I’m having more issues. Time to fix the bolts 😩
I’m curious why did you replace the fuse box? I’m glad I could help.
@@cookingintheshopwithmark1222 I replaced the fuse box because I found a TH-cam video of someone that had similar issues and they changed it out and it fixed their problem.
This worked for me thanks!
It was a bear for me to find glad it helped you.
Oh and Thanks a million for posting this! It is truly a blessing!
We used TH-cam a lot to get ideas on what’s wrong with different cars and I never had an original fix until this one. I’m glad I finally got one and it could help you.
I used this fix to correct an overheating problem on my 2014 Traverse LS. The Dealership and a local Garage could not find the problem. My passenger side Radiator Fan would intermittently stop working. I thought it was a dead fan. The local Garage wanted $1500 USD to R&R the Fan Assembly. After watching this video, I checked the 2 bolts and found them to be loose. After I installed home made “C” washers under each bolt head, and the bolts tightened right up. I started the engine and the fans started working normally again!!!
what kind of soldering iron are you using?
A big Weller 900 degree with led lights in the handle.
@@cookingintheshopwithmark1222 thanks :) do you happen to know what wattage it is?
I'm about to do some digging, but do you happen to know if this is the same R&P as ram was using at this time? Ram's issue seems to be electrical related, though.
I’m sorry but I have zero experience with the ram.
They share parts from what I can find, the casing & electronics are different. The motor, belt, & recirculating ball seems to be the same
Did you have to re program????
No, not at all.
What did you pickup truck did when the belt broke
When the belt broke there was no power. You still had steering if you were strong enough. But there was no power assistance.
I have the same problem with a warning light on my dashboard . It says advanced track service and the blinker doesn’t work . Did you have the same warning light on your dashboard. I will like to know before I open the rack and pinion
@@antoniomaceda1943 the way we checked the rack was to put the front tires on the ground with the engine running and have one guy turn the wheel one way and then the other while one guy was underneath listening for the rack motor to run. If you don’t have a load on the front tire the motor will not turn. Use a screwdriver to your ear or a stethoscope to listen.
@@antoniomaceda1943i have this problem too the Advance track service turning on sometimes i disconec the battery AND Is working again i think Is electric problem
@@raulreyes3558did you figure it out? I'm having the same issue. Also sometimes when I turn right the steering will jerk real hard to the left and then be fine after that. No warning lights or anything. Definitely a scary feeling
151 lbs axel
Thanks
Would your cause clicj and no start in the engine and p062f?
It’s been my experience that it can cause about 16 different things at least did your bolts spin as soon as you tried to tighten them?
I checked my bolts and they were loose. I think this is definitely the issue. Thank you!!! 🙏
You’re very welcome glad I could help.
Thank you because i think my 2017 buick enclave may have a weird problem like that one you just described, i am going to try it,will let you know!
Did it fix it?
@@cookingintheshopwithmark1222 I think I told you I went on an did the 70,000 mile maintenance, the problem that I ended up having was, I replaced the fuel rail sensor, an even after I had replaced it I was still getting the ck engine light, the abs an stabiltrak, I had replaced the fuel rail sensor with a GM part, it was either a COVID part, made during that time or a faulty part, replaced it with a Bosch part an road tested fine, been driving great,no problems ,an with everything I did save well over 1,000 dollars, so good deal there!
Thanks for the video. What did you use to cut the washers?
Emory wheel on a dremel
I got a question, how did you pull the bearing out so that it would give you space to put the belt onto the gear
The big bearing or the tensioner bearing.
Silly question, if I am just checking tightness of existing 2 bolts in existing fuse box, do i need to disconnect negative battery terminal?
No
I have a 2011 Traverse with 260k miles. Just got the traction control warning/reduce power, etc. also threw a P0221 code. Refers to throttle body. I replaced the throttle body 100k miles ago and its surprisingly easy. I saw other videos on P0221 saying the issue is wire harness/repin, but im thinking it will probably lead to an all new throttle body anyway. They are a bit pricey, i know, but cheaper than taking it to the dealer...labor alone would be more than a throttle body. Any opinions?
have you watched my 2015 chevy traverse video (repair reduced power) watch it and see if you have the same fuse box.
Thank you for the video. One of my screws was loose. Tightened it up and the car started right up. Not all heroes wear capes.
Your car wouldn't start or just had low engine power?
I just did the repair on one that had the instrument panel flashing. I have found them doing all sorts of things had one up to 18 different codes. Check yours it’s not hard.
I can’t find a lot on the Chevy Trax. Are the trax and equinox basically the same process?
I haven’t had to work on a trax. What is it you need to know?
OMG 2015 Traverse at my shop. New throttle and gas pedal. OMG YES the fuse box bolts was lose. Totally fixed now. No more cods and no more reduced power warning.
It was definitely a head scratcher. Glad it worked out for you. How did you repair it with spacers under the original bolts or new bolts with more threads?
2015 same as the 2014?
If your fuse box looks like the one in the video yes. We’ve done this fix on a Buick enclave also.
I guess you're labor is free....it would be cheaper to replace the rack
What are you talking about parts labor and tax was 574.00 have you priced a rebuilt rack only.
A rebuilt rack on rock auto ranges anywhere from 600.00 too 1200.00 before markup. Explain what you mean please.
$574.00 and you're married to that rack! Yes, I know the price of rebuilt and new. They have to warrant it, not you. You're not going to tell me you don't have atleast 3 hrs fiddling with that
They were going to sell the truck with no power steering because they could not afford to fix it with another rack and programming so it was done with the understanding that there was no warranty and he will actually make his money back from the repair plus some. Thats what we do for good customers. Normally I would agree with you on the married to it thing. Thanks for the comment
Maybe an old toothbrush with brake cleaner would help get that pulley cleaned up. Good video.
Cleaning the gear was not really an issue if I had it to do over again I would do it the same way with the sharp metal pick. It wouldn’t hurt to go over it with a toothbrush after you run the pick over it. The old belt guts are stuck pretty good. I would have removed the tensioner to make it easier. As for brake clean we do allow it in the shop because it smells bad. Bad like it’s bad for you. The best thing to clean brakes with is water. All of the stuff loose inside the rack housing were dry and compressed air did the trick. Thanks for the comment. Hope you have a good year.
How did you narrow down this was the problem? I've changed my mark, purge valve, spark plugs, coil packs and it still showing codes and shaking on acceleration. I'm about to check the wiring under the vehicle.
Have you watched my other traverse video on the fuse box.
Have you watched the other video about the problem with the fuse box? I have a little bit of time to help you out the next couple of days if you like. What codes come back after you clear them? When the light comes back on if it does is it flashing?
Does it go into limp home when it acts up? Does it run like crap and sometimes it runs good?
Appreciate ya
Thank You
Had the same issue with my 2015 traverse, the issue actually caused pre mature wear on my battery, causing it to need replaced too. I did thr same thing and checked the codes and seen they where all related to the same wiring harness connector. So I checked the tightness of the bolt realized it was extremely loose, so loose the bolt wouldnt even tighten up since the connector had came so loose. Explains why the vehicle would through a code or go into limp mode when or soon after hitting a small bump randomly. Judt check to see if there was a video on it, just encase i needed to make one to help somebody out. Thanks for the video!
Does a bad hub create a humming sound on the inside?
A bad humming sound when sitting still can be and usually is a collapsed engine mount. A bad front wheel bearing is a noise that can manifest itself several different ways. When taking off from a stop you might not be able to here it until you start driving faster. When your ear picks up on the sound you can usually hear it until you come to a complete stop. When they get really bad they are not hard to hear at all and make a grinding/rotating noise. Sometimes you can steer side to side and the noise will change. If you have a front wheel bearing going out you have to be careful when diagnosing because the noise can telegraph from one side to the other and it is easy to pick the wrong side for being bad. One way to figure out which one it is, is to feel the front springs on each side with the car jacked up and tires spinning in gear. I hope this answers your question.
There’s a humming noise that you can hear on the inside that gets louder when I accelerate and lower when I slow down.
Sounds like a front wheel bearing.
Thanks i appreciate the help
Yes it does
Great video. Exactly what I needed after moving away from stock drum brakes on older F150. Or course the standard e brake cables don’t work on the new disc conversion calipers. Going to modify the ones I bought to be the correct length via your process. Many thanks
I really didn’t figure anyone would watch this video but much to my surprise. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to write hope it helps. Instead of crimping the end of the cable you can silver solder a ball or cut a section bolt and drill a hole to slide the cable through and solder it.
Thank you. I am so upset I could spit. The money and time I have spent tracking down my weird electrical problems and the bolts spin like you described. I never thought to take that box apart. What engineer does not catch that error in construction. Hey, thanks man!
Could this lead to weak battery issure?
I can’t answer that for you because on this particular truck we were not having that issue so it wasn’t something we were looking at.
What is going on with your battery?
I have same issue with reduce power ,the last time it happend my battery was completely dead and had to replace it. Now the battery gauge shows 11v.instead of 14v . . I tested the alternator ealier today batery was to low to test .
Have you checked the fuse box bolts to see if they will tighten up. If they won’t tighten either replace them with all threaded bolts or do like the video and make spacer to go under the heads of the fuse box bolts. If you have got that fixed check the connections in the box and the plug to see if a terminal might be burnt from not being engaged fully. If everything is okay engine idling voltage should be 13.5 to 14.3. If you have got that idling but 11 eng off battery might be going bad check battery voltage when cranking should be 9.5 to 10.
Pull the cable ends off and check connections also.
Noticed on my acadia the bolts do not tighten they spin freely and I had lost partial power once... 🤔 Are you saying they should be fully tight?
yes they should tighten and not spin freely. On the one in the video I cut a 1/4” lock washer into a horse shoe slipped it under the heads of the two bolts and that was enough to tighten the plugs up with the bolts. The problem is they run out of threads before they pull the plugs all the way into the fuse box. One guy got new bolts that were threaded from the tip to the head.
My wife just called and said engine won't start, I told her to jiggle/ push in the wires (connecting to the same fuse box) and it started right up. I guess this would have something to do with the bolts not being tight enough, no?
