It's all gone a bit retro, so I'm spotlighting some of my favourites, some I genuinely detest and some I missed first time round.
Hopefully you'll find something that will kickstart your Nostalgia gland or discover a hidden gem or two.

considering the limitations of the time i think this is 99.9%/100 in keeping faithful to the source material and aesthetic of a movie the design of the hallways the broken glass the scans and vibe are very very well observed. making something like this for an an 8 bit machine with 64 k of ram is like having 4 pieces of toilet paper and 4 crayons and trying to retell lord of the rings
It does get the atmosphere right, despite apparently not having the rights to show Willis' face in the game (based on the PC version at least). But, the gameplay loop is poor with horrible combat and little else. Maybe some stealth or improvised Spy vs Spy trapmaking would stop the game getting repetitive.
This game always give me depression... I prefer the atmosphere of the first Shinobi and ( the original )Shadow Dancer ... I really dont like the colors and the background in general of this game
It's the new hardware bounce. When this was released it really was a massive step up from the eight bitters and there are some excellent graphical flourishes like the waterfall level but I agree that the colour pallet is rather muted and there wasn't enough variety in enemies.
@steveleadbeater8662 i'm not talking about the technical fact which was indeed a step further... But the atmosphere itself... That was an awfull tendence in the beginning of the 90's make every every sequel with a lot of purple colors... The first Shinobi and the original Shadow Dancer had so nice sunny atmosphere then they become all dark and purple... Also the Mega Drive version of Shadow Dancer is ugly as hell , i prefer the original and the sms version.
SH2 was a poor sequel. Music is bad, just a chaotic sound babble, attack waves are badly designed, boss fights boring and short, levels looks the same thru whole game and the possibility of choosing area ruins the learning curve and achievement feeling totally. And the scaler of sprites is just a little worse than the one used on Space Harrier 1 on.... commodore64.
As I absolutely suck at Space Harrier, the ability to play the later levels without slogging through the early ones was a godsend. I agree that it feels more like a add on pack of levels than a true sequel but it feels like it was rushed to be available on launch as, at the time, it was an obvious step up from what the Famicom or Master System could do. Many of the magazines at the time were certainly blinded by the aesthetics but that has been the case on most new hardware launches.
I used to be totally addicted to Cybercon III Interesting how Amiga 3D games had almost PC (for the time) sparse sound effects. Is it because the system memory was all used up for 3D?
Yeah, it seemed to be the case in a lot of games back then. I guess you could point out that you're basically totally abandoned in Damocles and it does feel like you're poking around a lost civilization a lot of the time. Cybercon is one that passed me by so I'm looking forward to giving it a spin soon.
I really never like that game in any single version, anyway i must say that Mega Drive version is impressive
The arcade games that didn't use the standard controls of the time are all a bit janky on Home micros and consoles. Today I'd switch auto fire on, movement on the D pad and shooting with the right analogue stick. With the Megadrive pad its not a comfortable way to play and would have suited the SNES pad better.
Cool find!
The water could have made for an interesting mechanic having to time jumps to get over land masses or bosses only being vulnerable when out of the water as the level goes up and down.
@ definitely something different the other shoot em that come to mind.I can think that has a water mechanic is “in the hunt”.. The music is really impressive too for an unfinished game
Fun game, good music. I used to play it just to hear those tunes!
Segas Arcade games of the era had some fantastic chiptunes, especially the scaler games.
Silly, monotonous game
Feels like a game bashed out in a few weeks, like so many tie-in games of the time.
“The flasher himself”…I wonder if he’d appreciate a sobriquet implying indecent exposure 😆
Its probably how he got buster Crabb(s)......
It is a game but not so good and fun to play , I buy this game for my A500 when I was teenage and playthrough it.
Every cartoon of the time had some sort of game and the vast majority were absolute bobbins. At least this one is fairly playable if overtly difficult.
How do you change the skill level
One you've chosen Arcade mode it should give you a choice of game length then a choice of 9 skill levels, use up and down on the joystick to choose.
Loved this game.
First Cricket game I played, still has a certain charm to it, especially the six flying out of the screen.
"Restrained chiptune"?! Who or what write this stuff?
Yep, the tune doesn't really match the action as its rather slow and laid back, hence - restrained.
this was my one of the favorite game back then
I found it fun in short blasts but was probably best suited in the budget range rather than a tenner.
I like what I see but the Scrolling looks jerky.
It is, feels like a game that needed a couple more weeks off polish. Still a fun blast but you can see there is room for improvement. There was a follow up released but the majority had jumped up a generation by the time it was released in 1993.
I love games like this, and I was working my way through the Amiga version. Then I came to a level that I gave up on. It wasn't a puzzle that caused me to quit, but rather an action part. The level was filled with dozens of enemies (I think they were bugs) moving back and forth between just two spaces each. The timing to get past them had to be exact. It was nerve-wracking because just one mistake and you'd have to start over. I could get past a few of them, but I would invariably end up getting hit by one of them. After many attempts, I gave up. I could have looked up a code list and skipped that level, but I didn't want to do that.
When it goes from a brain teaser to a twitch game I also tend to move on. It's more than likely that one twitch sequence becomes two, three etc...
Had this one when I was a kid, I thought it was neat to mess with but never beat it or anything was a cool novelty lol.
I only recently played the C64 & Amiga versions and was shocked at how bad this version is. Missing playable characters and power ups and is so much clunkier to control.
😊❤ I remember this game
I wish I could forget this conversion. Easily the worst of the 4 versions I've played.
@steveleadbeater8662 1942 had the worst nes soundtrack 😥 stuck with that game and commado and ghost n goblins tough ones
It was exhausting to play , but fun
Def needs to be mapped to get anywhere.
@steveleadbeater8662 I wonder if I mapped it back in the day. Does a version exist with unlimited energy/life ?
@@steveleadbeater8662Did you map it ? On the other Elidon videos on youtube people have mapped it
I grew up with the NES! Spy vs Spy stands out!:)
Much more fun with a second player, I was a home micro kid so the NES is, mostly, new to me but a lot of C64 games seem to have been ported across, shame only the first of these games made it as the second and third are both just as fun.
This guy drives like hes waiting for an oui
The game looks good , only played Arcade version but I Will try this. 🎉
It's at much the same difficulty level as the Coin-Op.
Small screen...
Back in the day the vast majority of us played on 14" CRTs, all of which were 4:3 ratio.
(apologies if this isn't translated well)
_Megumi Rescue_ on SMS: I'm about to end what little career this game has.
I applaud your niche-ness. A Sega cease and desist might have killed this one as it is very similar just without the Paddle Controller. Shame that version didn't get a wider release as its a fun little arcade game.
Oh crap this is old school baby😀 if your not first your last.
Oh, very old school but its got excellent controls and plays very similarly to Rock N Roll racing on SNES which is one of my favourites.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE GAMES ON NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM. EXCITE BIKE TOP GEAR ONE AND 3000 RAD RACER POLE POSITION KNIGHT RIDER ARCADE WITH THE STERING WHEEL CONTROLLER ROCK'N ROLL RACING F ZERO BOAT RACING GAMES SPY HUNTER GAME SOME OF THE FUNIEST GAMES EVER SIDE NOTE GAUNTLET NES LOW G MAN NES {PROBABLY MY FAVORITE NES GAME EVER} BIONIC COMMMANDO NES
Haven't really looked at the SNES yet, just a couple of games that never got a release. Also a big Rock N Roll racing fan and this is quite similar in how it handles. Never heard of Low G Man so I've that to look forward to.
Nice Video ! Sub & Big Like ! Love Topgun Nes Games !
Thanks for the sub!
I loved this game so much... despite the weirdchamp combat. Which I suppose did break some ground for its time. I always used the space bar to attack LOL.
It's a very weird game. BAck then all sorts of ideas were thrown at the wall to see what worked. This is actually the second game to use this system as Andy Gavin also released Dream Zone a year earlier which uses Digitised Graphics and is more of a traditional point and clicker.
I played the Speccy version. It's much like the C64.... But it was fun at the time.
The 64 version feels like a spectrum port. Not as bad as Karnov, which remains the worst game I've played since I started this, but not playing to the machines strengths at all.
Very boring game , better it was a rolling Demo.
It's bad on so many levels, the action is poor, the jumping is poor, the leaps of faith are annoying. Not sure I've enjoyed anything that Dinamic have published so far.
Look like an amiga game
One of the best looking NES games but mediocre on the SNES which might be why it didn't see the light of day.
NIce video , I have never seen this game , I have it on my real NES.
It's odd that the name was changed. I played the NES version afterwards (never owned a NES so I'm coming in blind with most of these games) and the SNES version does seem a touch harder, especially the first boss slog. The NES game is also the best looking NES game I've played so far whilst the SNES version is passable. Still, not releasing a completed game is very odd as it must have represented a fair investment.
Boring version ,I not coming to buy this for my Sega master system.
The only version I've enjoyed so far is the Sharp X68000 version which is excellent.
For a moment there I thought you were going to mention games than simply weren't Batman
That would be a VERY long series. Still unsure how Software Creations got their hands on the licence as they had only made Marvel licenced games at that point.
Never played the game, but the anime they made for this is is pretty good, if you like old-school anime
The original Anime run was April to December '87 and the game was released in May of that year so I'm assuming they were co-produced at the same time, or Hayashida was already making an Impossible Mission clone and the licence got slapped on.
This brings back some good ol' childhood memories... nowadays, I think this game in particular is kind of a response to Nintendo's Excitebike.
The mechanics are very similar with timed wheelies to keep up speed over jumps. I think Excite was a little more 'puzzley' in terms of track layouts and is certainly a more in depth game.
This game has the same song of the movie "Assault on precint 13" from 1976, by John Carpenter. 😎 The opening song.
Well, the game industry at the time hadn't got all cease and desisty in the eighties so everything was fair game. To be honest, the Bomb the Base hype was a little over the top at the time.
holy smoke ! Jaws 1 (1975 ) movie made $477,220,580 ! 49 YEARS ago ! ( Jun 22, 1975
No Internet, no videogames and, in the UK, three TV channels. Word of mouth that this was a must see film meant there were queues around the block to get into the cinema. Despite the now, rather dodgy, special effects, it remains a superbly paced thriller with a terrific script and outstanding performances.
Nice. One of the first Amiga games I ever saw. Was amazing to see so much on screen compared to the 8-bit systems.
When you buy a new machine you want to see a proper upgrade and the Amiga was a quantum Leap over the eight bit home micros.
Thank You!
You're welcome!
One of those first Shoot¨em up I playthrough on my real first Amiga 500 , it is very great game.
I can't think of an Amiga game with more projectiles on screen at the same time. I love the artstyle which Erik Simon used in the 'Amber' RPGs later on as well.
Nice One!! 👍💪
A simple premise executed with flair and humour.
Hey Bro...Thanks for your Awesome Vids...I Just found you lately & Subscribed to your Channel...Great Contents...Keep it Up🤌👌
Awesome thank you!
c64 soundchip is great , the c64 music is also on the title screen of this fanmade Turbo outrun th-cam.com/video/9XT2Cp-9fQs/w-d-xo.html
Never seen C64 version before Looks Good and great music , Amiga version the Scrolling destroy the game , Gremlin or Ocean should make them , US Gold sucks.
The Amiga version looks great in screenshots, I think thats what they were banking on as the actual game is a horrible jerky mess.
このゲームを少しやったこと有ります。妖怪のゲームです。😃
だから、全世界で公開されなかったのだと思います。Apologies if the translation is wrong.
They could at least made a perfect Arcade version to the Amiga.
It feels like a rushed product on both machines.
The title , the thumb, the retro, yaup , I'm sold what is this. Click.
Thanks for watching
