    Hello Peter, your 6 years post-op video inspired me to look for surgeons who perform the hip resurfacing procedure. I am wondering if you extended your own research to Germany and, in this case, what were the reasons not to go there for your surgery. Greetings from Munich

    Peter - just saw your latest video. I did ceramic bilateral hip resurfacing about 6 months ago. I found your videos really helpful as I did my rehab, they were very helpful in developing the right mindset and to continue to target the goals on both sides. I'm a tall dude 2 meters and 95 kilos - I am very happy with progress.

I did the surgery in Montréal with Dr. John Antoniou he's the only one in NA. Its interesting that anything different enlists such a barrage of naysayers, stifles innovation. I am glad I did one and done in the US no one wanted to do it - its all about the money -

    Hej! Peter! I have seen your videos and i am really impressed with you. During 2007 I started to have problems with my right hip. And now it has become a bit worse. Jag tar smärtstillande varje gång jag ska motionera. Har tittat på ytersättningsmetoden och den ser intressant ut. Jag är 51 år. Mycket imponerande att se din jämfota hopp. Påminner om programmet mästarnas mästare (Ingemar Stenmark) om du sett det. Finns det något sätt som jag kan få kontakta dig tex mail eller dylikt då jag har några frågor. Mvh Peter Stenmark

    Hello Peter, I have watched your videos since my husband has had a hip resurfacing by Dr De Smet 8 weeks ago. They are really helpful and inspiring. 8 weeks in, he is making good progress (walking 1h on the treadmill, incline up to 15%, cycling against resistance) however, painwise things are a bit disappointing. There are aches and pains most of the time. How was your experience? Is that normal? How to know if you are overdoing? Also, sitting for a long time is still uncomfortable. Physical therapists are not familiar with resurfacings so specific advice on return to athletic performance is hard to find. Any insights from you would be greatly appreciated.

    • @petersmith4518
      @petersmith4518 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Wendy, Without knowing anything about your husband I would say that 8 weeks is still very early for the majority of patients. The aches and pains are probably muscle and tendon related due to doing the same exercise too long. The trick is to find a balance so that he be moderately active everyday. Sitting still is not helpful.

    Hey Peter, My name is Nol from the netherlands and i am 25 years old and I have severe FAI CAM impingement with pretty bad cartilage damage already. The docs here are saying I have to deal with the pain until it gets unbearable, thus my life as it is today comes with a lot of restrictions. Since I am very young and have high ambitions to do sports(powerlifting, kickboxing, surfing, brazilian jiu jitsu, skating and snowsports) and travel the world this feels like a death sentence. I have been in contact with Koen de Smet from ANCA and it is obvious that the netherlands wont pay for the surgery. Next to that all surgeons that I have talked to and would have done arthroscopy on me or maybe later THR are saying Hip resurfacing is a bad idea. At this point it is hard to make choices and therefor I would like to ask you if it is possible to talk to you? I am very interested in your experience and I have a lot of questions for someone like you. Please get in contact with me via this comment and from here we can arrange something else.

    Hejsan Hejsan Peter. I'm a similar age to you and having my hip resurfacing done very soon. I just wanted to say that you're an incredible inspiration to me. Not just in terms of the procedure but also in terms of your fitness level! Du kör verkligen hårt med träningen, otroligt imponerande!

      @@petersmith4518 That sounds like good advice, but let's just say that I'm at a TOTALLY different fitness level to you, så det blir inte så hårt oavsett!😅 To see what you can do now is truly inspirational, but I get how much was involved to get to that level of fitness. I guess one has to make it part of life? Can I ask if you had general anesthesia or a spinal epidural during your surgery? I'm not keen on general anesthesia and being intubated.

    • @petersmith4518
      @petersmith4518 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rob9207 General anesthetic yes, don’t know of anyone having local anesthetic for a hip replacement. Spinal epidural no.

    • @rob9207
      @rob9207 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@petersmith4518 Thanks for your swift reply Peter. I hope that I can get the epidural instead of the general anesthesia, but I guess I will find out soon. Not to worry you in any way, but I noticed that the Conserve Plus seems to have been pulled from the market, and there are some lawsuits etc in America. I heard you say that you had a size 56 though, and I think it's almost always the smaller sizes causing problems. I don't yet know what size I will get, only that it's larger than 50, but I hope I can get a 54 or a 56 like you. I'm having the Birmingham BHR btw. Just in case and assuming all goes well with the surgery, I think I will be measuring my Cobolt levels over the coming years, just to be on the safe side. Apparently up to 5 or 7 (parts be Billion) is not too bad, but if it goes above that you can get tinnitus and potentially other more severe problems. All in all though I think it's worth the risk, and I will try to follow a lighter sort of your training regime. It seems that going from no activity (sitting/laying) to high impact activity like running without a warm up is what causes the most issues, because there isn't enough lubrication. Once again, a big thank you for making these videos, and for updating on your progress, it's incredibly valuable for those of us about to embark on this journey. You're a real inspiration and a great motivation for me to try to get back to a better level of fitness once I'm through this.🙏 PS. There are likely many of us who would happily pay good money for a "Re-hab - Fitness After Hip Resurfacing" style video series/online course if you ever decided to put one out. There aren't many men in their 50s who have undergone hip replacement/resurfacing that can do what you can.🙂

    • @petersmith4518
      @petersmith4518 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rob9207 Hi Rob, I wouldn’t recommend an epidural over a general anesthetic. There is probably a higher risk with sticking a needle in your spine compared to sleeping gas. My advice for rebab is lots of daily motion, walking is great, cycling and swimming if you can. 10000 steps a day. Climbing stairs is an easy exercise, air squats are another. The worse thing is not moving enough.

    Hi Peter. Just been watching all your videos with great interest. I am 42 years of age and had my right hip resurfaced 5 days ago and currently doing quite well on crutches and carrying out light physio rehab. My surgery was done by Ronan Treacy in Birmingham. Mr Treacy has carried out over 5000 resurfacings so I’m hopeful of an out come similar to your own. I am a slightly smaller sized male and I believe a size 48 was used in my case. I hope this doesn’t affect my chances of a positive outcome. I also do not know the type of prosthesis that was used- hopefully not the type that was less successful. Well done on your excellent videos that really show resurfacing to be an excellent option for many.
