    Awesome video and thanks for sharing. Starting off with my first project with making a bracket for a Volvo electric power steering pump that I want to run in my drift car. Way cool and inspiring man! The years keep passing while my car skills develop. Markets and technology change rapidly. 15 years ago you couldn't buy cheap performance parts on eBay and amazon. That's been huge. Now I'm a mechanical engineer and it's still hard to keep up with all my interests and technologies related to my car interests. I thought my iPhone 12 premix with lidar was going to be a 3d scanner for me. Haven't checked in the last year but the apps available have been pretty bad with it to build off of. 3d scanners are expensive and at the early stages of price to performance where whatever you buy will be cheaper and better tomorrow it seems like. I'm already a cad jockey but haven't been able to use it much with car projects due to lack of scanning. Any tips to get started with scanning? Is it like you? $600-$800 just for a scanner to get started?

    • @heintztyler
      @heintztyler ปีที่แล้ว

      I've attempted to work with the iPhone lidar camera for scanning but it's definitely not ideal. If you're unsure how much use you'll get out of it, the revopoint is a great introductory scanner and one of the cheapest.

    Great video! I wish I had 3D printed mock up pieces when I was making more exhausts - it would have saved me so much time! With how good your fit up is, I recommend autogenously pulse welding everything. I recommend trying 75A, 1.8-2.2hz, 40% on time, 5A background. With a BBW cup I can weld an entire diameter in one pass and keep the whole weld a light straw color. With such little heat in the joint, back purging isn't even necessary. I've never had an exhaust crack and I have some that are 8+ years old.

    • @heintztyler
      @heintztyler ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! My fitup looks pretty decent in the video but unfortunately it wasn't all that great in person. It was definitely a struggle getting good fitup on a 4" tube using a 4" belt sander. I've been meaning to try pulse but always end up getting in a rush and not taking the time to learn. I'll give those settings a shot!

    Were you able to create sketches off the stl file or did you create planes as close to the stl surface as possible?

    • @heintztyler
      @heintztyler ปีที่แล้ว

      I always add planes to the stl file and there’s a few options to do this. In solidworks you can use the 3d to scan feature and add planes simply by clicking on 3 points on a surface. The other way that it can be done is to use the free program Blender and setup your orientation planes by eye which can get you surprisingly accurate results. You basically just need to manipulate the orientation of the part until it can be moved flush with the plane you’re trying to reference off of. This has its limitations though as you can only use it to reference the orientation planes vs adding multiple in solidworks to any surface.

    I've to a RevoPoint scanner and it never works well for me. I've used an Einstar scanner now. Its still pretty cheap for a 3D scanner ($1000), but works SO much better than RevoPop software. Great video though.

    • @heintztyler
      @heintztyler ปีที่แล้ว

      I've heard great things about the Einstar. There's definitely an art to getting good results from the Revopoint, but with the help of Solidworks and Blender it's definitely manageable. Once I make the big bucks I'll upgrade to the Peel3d.

    • @heintztyler
      @heintztyler ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate it! If I cut intercooler piping on the bandsaw, I use a Milwaukee thin metal blade. If I'm not using the bandsaw I usually use my Evolution cold saw with their aluminum specific blade.

    • @GetItAtWiLL
      @GetItAtWiLL ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heintztyler do you happen to remember what the tpi for the blade is. Trying to figure out the best choices for aluminum with it

      @GetItAt_WiLL When I bought my bandsaw I grabbed a thick and thin blade without even looking at the tpi. I've used both without issue but if I were specifically buying a blade to cut aluminum I would choose one with a higher tpi.
