I'm so sorry 😂 I meant to say the news media
At Woodstock you can't take away from the music and the stars at that time. The Hell's was even beating up the white folks. And that's why the news was there.
Woodstock was on a different level than the Harlem festival. That was the year of Summer of love 😘 sex nudity drugs. It was so much going on there the hell Angels was doing security . They actually killed a black 🖤 man
I'm 65 and I never heard of the Harlem free concert festival back then 😮 . That's because the news media was to focus on Woodstock.
Do you think we can get the summer of soul on a DVD box set 🤔
That first picture in the video. Not the original 5th. Nor can I see Billy or Marilyn. That said, along with Aretha’s Amazing Grace, PRICELESS CULTURAL DOCUMENTS of that era!!! Recorded better than Woodstock.
Very nice interview
Loved that movie :)..thanks a lot and I am looking forward for next work ..
Whoa! Thank you to all who brought this together. It’s magnificent!
Friends went to see this but were turned away, told it was canceled. Is it going to play again?
A wonderful time and event whose story definitely needs to be heard. It's a few years before I was born but I would have loved to have been present to witness it. This is real history. The whole event was free to attend. Almost unthinkable nowadays to imagine today's stars willing to put themselves forward without getting paid. Though I imagine a small amount of money was offered at first initially to get an idea of which acts were really up for it. Sad to think of how many people in that beautiful crowd all those years ago are no longer with us.
The discussion on the peculiarities of Christianity was interesting. The portrayal in the movie was primarily specific to the charismatic version of Christianity ... the director seems to lump all Christians into that slice. I find it fascinating that the people who made the film are not Christians. Very interesting conversations this film raises
I really appreciate the screenings and the after analysis. Kudos Jasmine and Cutter!
I really enjoyed the movie. Great interview!
Another Beatles tribute album? So many African American artists deserving of a tribute. How about a" Summer of Soul" tribute (artists from the festival (film)!!!!!. The whole point of Summer of Soul is how black music often goes unrecognized. The world does not need another Beatles tribute.
This festival happened over a few weeks and I took it they did divide the music into seperate days: Gospel day, Spanish music day, jazz day etc. I think it would be hard to mix genres then too. Hard to see a young Sly and the Family Stone fan of the time sitting through gospel with the older folks.
Black Bird, sounds amazing! Thank you, Billy and Marilyn, for all of your beautiful music over the years!!
I went to see this film this past Saturday [7/10/21]. I took my mom and husband. We really enjoyed it. A really great film/movie and at the end of it, lots of people clapped their hands. I don't know how they could have thought that no one would want to see it. I do believe it was meant for this time. God has a time for everything. Thank you.
Sly and the Family Stone performed at both Woodstock and The Summer of Soul. Truly a crossover musical group. This is another story that remains untold. Also, the bands at Woodstock were surprisingly varied. For example, Sha-Na-Na performed at Woodstock as did Joan Baez and Arlo Guthrie. It wasn't just straight ahead rock and roll at Woodstock.
100% I try to get reaction channels to cover them. It took me over a year of consistent requests to get 1 channel to react! In addition their biggest hits were in the late 60's but my favorite album is " There's A Riot Going On" cirva 71!# That's when the funk came into play. Larry Graham literally invented the slap bass on the track " Thank You" that we written after both festivals and only released on the greater hits cirva 70! I am the Jonathan they refer to. th-cam.com/video/6fcjPxNwwms/w-d-xo.html
@@jgsrhythm100 Top Man. Thank you.
it so pertinent that their are so much of art, and history, that is positive that has been hidden lost ,or discarded ,in the annals of time ,of all cultural stories!!!!!
Marilyn and Billy are amazing people and talents!
I really admire Billy and Marilyn for their brains, talent, work ethic and most of all, their artistry. I find them inspirational both as creators, and as the kind of people I aspire to be.
we need all 40 hours of that video
