American Models S turnout
American Models makes a good turnout for American Flyer and Hi-rail wheels. Their instructions recommend using a shim on a guard rail adjacent to the frog for scale wheels. I think it could also be useful to shim the flangeway to minimize wheel drop passing through the frog.

This video compares mechanisms moving Louie the Loader. The first American Flyer mechanism had an enclosed gear housing, in later production a modified mechanism had on open housing. Lionel production uses a can motor with a plastic gear housing.

This video shows the mechanism that moves the Louie the Loader. The accessory was introduced in 1955 and is very reliable. This one did not move when I received it. The motor tried to turn, but the mechanism required lubrication. One small adjustment was to glue a shim at the fork lift unload point, making the barrel tip sooner.

This is an unorthodox way to secure the collector shoe housing on an American Flyer diesel. The shoe housing tab had loosened from the factory crimp, causing a derailment. To prevent the housing from falling off again, I used epoxy. If the shoe needs replacement, the epoxy can be ground off the housing with a Dremel tool.

S gauge 2-8-0 from S Helper Service. The wheel arrangement is two pilot wheels, eight drive wheels, and no wheels under the firebox. It's a freight locomotive wheel configuration. American Flyer trains popularized S gauge, and American Models is one of the companies that offers a good S gauge selection today. The streamlined K4 was designed by Raymond Loewy for the 1939 World's Fair. In 1962 he also designed the Air Force One paint scheme still in use today.

The BMT Standards originally lacked a name or model number. It was only after the Company acquired over 900 of the cars that, since the car became the "standard" car for the BMT, the car was so named.
I only collect American Flyer but the other S gauge looks nice. I like the Gilbert couplers best.

Nice video and layout. You phone stand caught my attention. I built a special car to carry my phone in several different positions and use it to shoot riders' eye views in some of my videos. I also occasionally place the phone on the car in otherwise difficult to reach positions to vary the angles of my videos and still shots.

I love S Scale, but i don't do American Flyer or S "HIgh Rail," but rather "Finescale S," with prototypically scaled rail (code 100 or less), kd 802 couplers, and NASG/NMRA track and wheel standards. DCC. it looks and operates great.
Although all I’ve ever owned was O and HO I always thought S was the perfect scale
I love switching operations. That's the most enjoyable aspect of model railroading.
What are your dimensions for your layout
The dimensions are 8' x 12'. It's modular, with two mainlines and various sidings for switching.

Very nice, and thanks for sharing! Can you tell what track and turnout manufacturer you used, and is the layout DCC. I'd love to do something similar with my old Flyer trains.
American Models is the best bet for switches for American Flyer trains. The track uses code 148 rail, meaning it's .148" high, suitable for toy flanges. Classictrains also makes track with code 172 rail. I have both kinds, but connecting them requires that joints be soldered to make rail height the same. I also have both DC and DCC trains, I throw a double pole double throw switch to toggle between the two. The simplest thing to do is remotor old Flyer with a DC motor and leave it at that. There's a portlines dealer in Newburyport, MA with plenty of stuff, and there's also the NASG, the National Association of S Gaugers.
Nice models, nice layout, just one correction that E-L switcher would still have a 567 prime mover, the 645's were later and turbocharged. Not criticizing, love the video!

but also to add land above the tunnel to seamlessly connect triangle park to the village green. there was a time when triangle park was connected to the village green until the rail line that runs through town was constructed in the 1840's which divided it for nearly 1 and 3/4 centuries, but not anymore, triangle park is now reconnected to the village green for the first time since the rail line was constructed
the track bed was lowered to allow sufficient clearence for the tunnel to allow freight trains to run intermodal double stack rail cars on the line
