"You Picked A Real Bad Time" Versión 3 Es buena rola, pero la guitarra la cambiamos mejor por el piano o saxofón en el inicio. La guitarra la ponemos en solo tal como va a mitad de la canción. Si meten voz femenina al coro acompañando al vocalista sería excelente.

i love this entire interview but my favorite moment is when he talked about the audition for billy 36:25 - 36:29 billys is so short and marks so tall it's so cute you cannot convince me otherwise. and i love how billy has to pull mark down cuz he's not tryna get on his tippie toes just give a small smooch love mark a ton, super cool guy. he's the reason i started to play instruments tbh anyway peace n love ☆☆

I always said The Garden is the best place to see Billy Joel. Its like an energy like no other venue. I was so happy to hear tgat Billy and the band felt that way, as well. New York Proud! 😎🎹❤️

Sooo...am I the only one who has the Bridge demo of what I call, "I Know You Know What I Mean?!?" 'Cuz that would be pretty weird! 😲 I also got this 5-minute jam which he does, with Steve Winwood on guitar, of "Means to an End"...which I also believe to be from these Bridge sessions! 😊👍

I saw the show in Oct or Nov 2014, the first one after Covid hiatus and plan to be there for the final one in July next year. I’m from MN and there’s just not a more joyful, fun show possible than Billy in MSG. He’s coming here in November but kinda doubt I’ll go unless I get a cheap ticket, just not worth compared to this 😊

Mike, thank you for the outtakes. River of Dreams was released when I was 19 and entering my second year of college. Do you have access to an unleaded song from Streetlife Serenade entitled “In the Streets”? Billy claims to have asked Michael Stewart to erase it in 1974. Just curious. 🎹😎

I remember being sixteen when I first watched that Shades of Grey documentary. My buddy and I were both big fans and we talked for a good long while about the doc in school the next day. We both independently had come to a lot of the same conclusions, primarily about how annoyed we were with this Danny Korchmar dude. We agreed that came off like a real horse's a** on a power trip. His decision to get rid of Billy's band in favor of session musicians (and guess who?), Danny himself, never sat right. The guy seemed self serving and arrogant; the type who was out to fix something that wasn't broken just so he could get the credit. We were both already sort of disappointed with The River of Dreams album as a whole. We had read the liner notes and were well aware that the musicians on this new album were all different than what we had become used to (with the sole exception of Shades of Grey, which, not coincidentally, was our consensus for favorite song on the album). To this day I wonder what could have been if someone else had produced the album. Billy himself, Phil Ramone, Mick Jones, whoever... they all would have done a better job and been more in tune with Billy's music. I still feel like Korchmar was guilty of selling him a bad bill of goods and as a result he hurt the album. It's still Billy Joel so there's still a lot of good things about The River of Dreams, but I'm positive it could have been much better. Years later, when I first heard the much talked about (at least among us fans) Shelter Island Sessions I felt vindicated. Shades of Grey had been the only full song length example of those sessions I'd really had but now I could hear the others. I was only more convinced that these songs could've been more effective and exciting with a different production philosophy than Korchmar's, which I disagreed with so vehemently from way back then.

Thank you so much for this post! Yeah, Danny really comes across as a jerk in the Shades of Grey interview clips. Billy was just at the point where he didn't want to make albums any more, and having someone else do the hard post-recording work was too good to pass up.

I was there for my 1st Billy concert! I'm 23 and have been a huge Billy fan for a grand total of 6 months. I've always appreciated his music but recently I've got super into it so the fact he was playing in the UK was a no brainer! The performance was incredible, both his voice and playing. Whilst mentioning he doesn't get here very often he said "and I don't know when I'm gonna get my old ass back here", implying it may be the last. He absolutely went for it, you could see he and the band were giving it their all. I heard the attendance was 65k and I think all 65k were singing! I was there with my Mum and we managed to catch the soundcheck in the morning and whilst walking out of Hyde Park to see if we could see anything, Billy drove past, 5m away, window down. We waved and he waved back. What a memory. The show was awesome, I wouldn't have cared what the set-list was, he could have played anything. The ad lib addition (well it's written in extra on the set-list) of A Hard Day's Night was epic and the spoof off the cuff minute of Start Me Up to accompany his Mick Jagger impression was brilliant. Desperate to see him at MSG before it ends!

Way back in his career the songs he put out were perfect for those times. Don’t throw anything from then away, they are from his brilliant mindset of churning out something new every time he experienced it. Keepin’ on , while his brain kept busy! Love to hear all those tunes, you can see how he grew and could write about pretty much anything and get it across to his audiences! I admire his composing talents! Genius!! He’s had quite a life, worked hard, makes his fans adore him by being himself. so charismatic …. I never saw him in person, only through concerts on TV and through this media 1:05:40 right here, but I have a listen every day to some Billy Joel and get lifted up! In my mind he is The Entertainer, best ever! ❤ it would be tops on my Bucket List to have a chat, in person, of course, with him. Except I’d probably go blank and not be able to utter a word. Lol

@billyjoelcompletelyretold: Thank You so much for this AMAZING SERIES!! I am a HUGE, HUGE Billy fanatic, & a former Billy Joel impersonator Myself! I'm also very, very fortunate to be able to say that I am a personal Friend of the MULTI-TALENTED, & BEAUTIFUL HUMAN BEING Mr. Mike Delguidice! I'm from Springfield, Massachusetts, & My Wife, & I used to go to EVERY SINGLE Show that We could to see Mike, & His Billy Joel Tribute Band "BIG SHOT" Which was more like an ALL-STAR BAND, even in the earlier days, before THE CURRENT, & ALSO BILLY JOEL DRUMMER Chuck Bergi was in the Band, Liberty's Brother Sal Devitto was the Drummer, & His Wife June befriended My Wife, & I, & insisted that We sat with them at every Show!! And EVERY SHOW, We would go early while they were setting up, & Everyone in the Band knew Us, including Mike Delguidice on Piano, & Vocals, Ritchie Cantata, OR John Scarpulla, & THEN LATER TILL PRESENT DAY "THE AMAZINGLY TALENTED, MULTI-INSTRUMENTELIST, & ONE HELL OF A HUMBLE, & BEAUTIFUL HUMAN- BEING, Mr. Mark Rivera on SAX, Carmen Giglio {WHO IS "ALEXA RAY JOEL'S KEYBOARD PLAYER/ MUSIC DIRECTOR"} on Keys, Ken Cino {WHO NOW PLAYS FOR THE "LORDS OF 52nd STREET} on Lead/Rhythm Guitars, & THEN OF COURSE LATER TO PRESENT DAY "VETERAN BILLY JOEL GUITARIST" Tommy Byrnes, Nick Dimachino {FROM THE BAND "NINE DAYS"} on Bass Guitar! And they would ALWAYS, ALWAYS give Us a hug, & a kiss, & We'd chat for a bit, & catch up, & THEN They would inevitably hit Me up with "SO, ARE YOU GONNA COME UP, & SING A FEW SONGS TONIGHT?" And to be asked that question EVERY SHOW, ESPECIALLY THE FIRST TIME that Ritchie Cantata was there, was MIND-BLOWING!! To go up there, & get to sing "SCENES FROM AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT" "ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG" "&" "JUST THE WAY YOU ARE" {I SANG THAT FOR MY WIFE'S BIRTHDAY, IT WAS OUR SONG} With the Actual Sax player that was on the recordings {EXCEPT FOR "JUST THE WAY YOU ARE"} That Sax Solo was Phil Woods, who was ironically ALSO from Springfield, Massachusetts!!

@BillyJoelCompletelyRetold THIS IS AN AMAZING CHANNEL, & I'VE SEEN THIS PARTICULAR VIDEO SO MANY TIMES, BUT I GET CHILLS EVERY SINGLE TIME, BECAUSE BILLY'S RHYTHM GUITARIST MIKE DELGUIDICE IS A VERY CLOSE, PERSONAL FRIEND OF MINE!! I MET HIM WHEN HE HAD JUST STARTED HIS TRIBUTE BAND "BIG SHOT", & MY WIFE & I USED TO TRAVEL FROM SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS TO ALL OVER CT., N.Y., & THE GUYS WOULD ALWAYS INVITE ME TO COME UP, & SING WITH THEM, CUZ @ THE TIME I MYSELF WAS A BILLY JOEL IMPERSONATOR, SO I ALWAYS GOT A GREAT RESPONSE, & ALSO GOT TO NOT ONLY PLAY WITH A LOT OF THE GUYS WHO RECORD ON THE ACTUAL SONGS, BUT MADE SOME GOOD FRIENDS ALSO! LIKE THE DRUMMER AT FIRST WAS SAL DEVITTO {BROTHER OF LONG-TIME BILLY JOEL DRUMMER LIBERTY,} SO SAL, & HIS WIFE JUNE BEFRIENDED MY WIFE, & I, & WE WOULD HANG OUT WITH THEM AT MOST OF THE SHOWS!!

In the early '90s, my grandpa visits a friend's farm (Horton's farm) in Glastonbury Connecticut. He hears they're filming parts of the River of Dreams music video inside the barn and goes over there for a visit. He proceeds to chat up Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley. Keep in mind, my grandpa has no idea who they are. He calls my mom, living in New Hampshire at the time, and tells her about the experience. She is understandably livid and asks him, "Dad, don't YOU KNOW who BILLY JOEL is? He says, "No, but his wife was awfully nice!" My mom tells me this story years later, and is shocked at how clueless he is about the cultural zeitgeist. Some people are just in the right place at the right time, I guess.

Their formula for creating sets: write hits on pieces of paper and put in bag. Shake bag. Their comments on adding B cuts is overstated. Billy only plays about 20 percent of his body of work. Ignores the rest.
