Other Than Intended Purpose
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 2 ต.ค. 2011
my channel is here to show the items, and techniques I have found useful as well as things I have made, or modified to make my life easier, and my time in the woods better for me and my sons. I also try to show how I cope with my lessened mobility in spending time in the woods, as well as the workshop. I spend approximately 70 % of my time in my wheelchair, with better days spent either with my crutches, or cane or more recently my walker. I am a 10 year ARMY vet, with a lot of experiences from growing up on a farm, riding rodeo, jumping out of planes, and just about every kind of job a country bumpkin with a background in engineering can do.

Thanks for the video...from all I've seen of them Joker makes a nice knife...just subbed...woods
thank you for checking us out. I hope we will be more active soon. health is a pain in the everything sometimes.
All veges are supposed to go in first. Any meat is the last thing to go in on top of everything in the Can Cooker.
I came to sub. that was my intention on watching this video. You left a comment on Bourbon Moth about hanging out with your kiddo. So I had to come sub. Also, good content here too.
Gee, you'd think they would put instructions in with each CAN COOKER. There is something like a book but now if I could only read!!!
For me a one tool option is something that can handle camp chores and if necessary be used for self defense. My M95 Sissipuukko is my one tool option.
My god are those dinosaurs in the background lmao
we are at a local 65 acre park, that backs up to the zoo. those are the animals getting excited because we filmed at feeding time.
Just subbed glad to have found you brother
Nice vid... the Nomad 6.5 has worked itself to be my main work, outdoors and camp knife. Favourite berry? Either Raspberry for the Jam, or Grapes for the Wine... (if Whisky or Beer were made with berries, it'd be that) :D
Thanks for sharing about your Joker Nomad 6.5, excellent review. I have the OG Nomad 5.5 and really like it. 👍Take care and Cheers!
thank you. I have been very impressed with the build quality of this 6.5, I most often use a smaller knife, and would like to get ahold of one of the 4-5" Jokers at some point in the future. these guys are really knocking it out of the park with what I have seen so far. I have one other Joker, but because of state laws, I can't carry it outside of the house. pretty sure the person that gifted them to me didn't know about that ( it is a double edge dagger)
Dude I'm so sorry YT unsubbed me and I didn't even notice.. I've got notifications on now so hopefully they don't do that again..
not to worry. it happens a lot. thank you for re-subbing. it means a lot to Jack and I.

thanks for checking us out
Excellent video Mulberry !!!!!
thank you for checking it out. we had fun getting out under the redwoods to do this.
Good lookin' knife!
thank you. for the larger tasks, this is a very well thought out blade. and beastly.
Bless you my brother for saying what I've been saying for years. One doesn't need a frigging Bowie for bushcraft. I keep either a machete (surveying) or a light hatchet in my pack. My preference is a 5"-6" fixed blade and a medium folder for all around use. Take care.
thank you for watching. I have always had a 4-1/2 to 5-1/2" fixed as my primary belt knife. most of my favorites are in the 5" range. I do see a use for bigger blades but as my main belt knife.
@OtherThanIntendedPurpose I'm talking about the big knife, little pecker crowd. You know those guys. My dad had a job similar to your previous one, except he was sneaking around Korea with the Koreans. He taught me.
I get ya. some of us understand that being able to do the smaller, detailed tasks is where the 4-6" blades really are better. it's cool that your dad taught you. mine did the same. but his education was at the jungle university of Viet Nam. you take care, Brother.
@@OtherThanIntendedPurpose My dad was in the mountains of Korea. His job was similar to your old one.
Good evening Gents; Figured I'd add in a thought - as guy who has a fascination with both pocket knives and sheath knives. I also share the love of outdoors skills and having spent time teaching Wilderness First Aid I learned along the way that there are literally dozens of blade shapes and a large range of sizes they come in. There are two basic reasons : ascetics and function. A knife made for looks sacrifices function to some degree . Following the sage wisdom of "use it long enough to get to know it" I've regulated a bunch of those knives to the "not carrying that" pile. The sheath knives I carry are all short bladed and I prefer a folding pocket saw to an axe or hatchet for many tasks. If you can spare some coin try the Opinel folding pocket saw. It's super handy and I find it to work great at camp tasks. Bless you both and may all your journeys be adventures and your havens safe.
Great vid brother 🤙🏽
thank you. and thanks for checking it out.
HEY OTIP👋 I love my Joker Campero in 14c and Micarta. Thanks for showing another fantastic Joker Fixed blade. They used to be priced a little lower but when you make great stuff and the demand rises....
thank you for checking it out. I really like this knife, and it's very well made. it would be out of my price range, but it was a gift. it just plain destroys wood, when breaking it down for fires.
Awesome collection you have there
thank you.
😊😊😊😊😊😊
thank you for watching us.
I want A Frontier v-6 i have An Action Track Wheelchair❤
I have never had the chance to try a track chair, but I can see where they would not be very good indoors. I like this chair because I can use it indoors, as well. and with the center wheel drive it can spin on a central axis, so I can get out of trouble easier. thanks for watching.
If you want to try one some state parks Across the nation are getting them for Disabled people to try for free! I know Wasington, colorado , mishigan, Minnisota just to name a few! N@@OtherThanIntendedPurpose
try beef or chicken broth i normally put a cabbage in to
since this video, I have used my can cooker several dozen times, and still like it. I do use chicken broth a lot, gives a really nice kick to the food. thanks for watching.
Good stuff OTIP! Hold your doing better and back at videos. Nice video brother!👊🇺🇸🔪
thank you. the VA has been doing it's best to get me back to the woods. thanks for watching, and for the kind words.
Hello OTIP! Good to see you back in the forest. Cheers!
thank you. it's been a while. we hope to be back in the woods a lot more this summer
FWIW, the ESEE PR4 is one of my favorites as well. Although I do wish it HAP40 or M390. 😉
it is such a classic for a reason, it works. Horace Kephart was a very basic man, and built his knife to get the job done. clean lines like this stay around forever for a reason. thank you for watching.
It's been a while! Great stuff, OTIP. 😎🔥⚔
thank you. I am hoping the worst of the medical crap is over for a while.
Hallooo OTIP and greeting from the other coast. Great to see you guys again and I always enjoy your review of knives you’re using or have used. Blade steel is a super hot topic and its a bit tricky as some folks seem to take it to heart. I’m content with a Buck 110 in 420 HC or ( more recently) a 112 is SV 30 and whatever mysterious stainless my Swiss Army is made from. Also I’ve a love for the old TL 29 electrician’s knives in whatever random high carbon they were made in. Again I’m super happy to see you guys ( ok I only see one of you) back on TH-cam and I’m praying your health improves. May all your journeys be adventures and your havens safe.
thank you. I agree that some people get so hung up on steel, they forget the simple question: does it do what I need? I gauge a steel by how it works.
@@OtherThanIntendedPurpose truth The combination of blade shape and edge combined with the handle needs to be considered. That is, I believe, the initial consideration and you touched on those factors nicely in your review. The steel tells me how long it will endure use and how good it will look (I love me some damascus). The Otzi knife by Condor is super cool but not practical for most applications as I also have larger than average mitts. Looking forward to seeing you guys soon.
@@coatpocketsurvivalist thank you. and yes, exactly. the blade shape, and relation to the handle are critical in deciding how well a knife, or any tool really, will get the job done. Jack and I have several videos, and a couple over nighters planned for the summer. I hope you enjoy them
HEY THERE OTIP 👋👋 Good to see ya out in the wild and doing a video. The Nesmuck is an awesome blade shape. Lots of great steels. Thanks for sharing and take care.
thank you. Jack and I hope to be a lot more active this summer. I have liked the Nessmuk for a long time, it is very well designed for the woods
hey OTIP! Great video and thx for sharing, glad to see you back
thank you. I am glad to finally be back. hoping to be a lot more active this summer, if I can stay out of the VA hospital ;P
Excellent!
thank you for watching. Jack and I really appreciate it.
Hello OTIP. Good to see you back.
thank you. I am hoping to be a lot more active this summer.
Hey OTIP! Some great blades you have there!
thank you. I really enjoy using a good blade.
Hi OTIP, good video. Take care. ❤
thank you. it's been a rough year, but we are hoping to be a lot more active soon
OTIP! Good to see a video from you my Brother. You look well. I know that doesn’t mean you FEEL well but you are looking well at least🤘🏻👍🏻👊🏻 Thanks for sharing!!!
thank you. most of the issues I have had have been heart and lung, so they don't show. but I am doing a little better. now if we can just get more sunshine, we will be in business. yeah, it is raining hard again today ;P
Called his pup a redneck, I love this dude😂
"cause I mean, sausage come on now" I like this one.
Thank you. As someone who used and carried a PST for many years I really appreciated you telling about your leatherman collection.
I used the file leatherman wave to cut thru a pad lock once, took a while but it worked! Ive used the can opener many times. Ive used the diamond file to sharpen my knife. I bought the wave when it was 50 bucks. ( shows ya how long ive had it lol). Other than losing the little eyeglass screwdriver, and sometimes when i open it, the pliers get caught up on sumthin, i love the wave.
I agree 100% the Wave is an outstanding tool. I EDC a gen 1 wave, I have had since '99 and a surge I got for my birthday in '06. thank you for checking us out.
I came over from the link you posted on Dave's channel Fun in the Woods. I agree the pencil sharpener may help with fine curls for people who have a hard time doing it with a knife, but, im an ol' fart and have arthritis in my hands. In a cold environment, id have a hard time grabbing a small enough stick to use the pencil sharpener. Thats just me though. But, collecting the shavings from home using the pencil sharpener and taking to the feild as part of a firekit would work for me. Anyway, ty for the video! Im gonna subscribe as soon as im done posting.
thank you for checking us out. I am getting older too, so I understand. it's getting to where listing what does not hurt is a lot faster. I hope you enjoy our videos, we will be posting again soon. been having medical issues that shut us down a while. have a good one.
Sons knife is a smith and wesson swat 2 or a copy of one i had one jus like it but gave away to a friend after it dulled slightly as at time didnt have way to resharpen lol they a good tank style of knife
why didn't the gifter want to be mentioned on video?
sorry it took so long to respond. he is a very good friend of mine, but he is very private. in the past mentioning people that gift things has occasionally opened them up to a lot of spam messages.
The new 1quart bushpot should nest on top of the 64 oz bottle too , the new coffee press will fr sure . Just whatever a person needs
that is good to know. I dont have the 1q bushpot, but I might have to put it on the l( ever growing) list of things I want.
hey brotha doug, i am a new sub for ya here n i am a u.s. marine vet here 93' to 97' active ! , only have email here , def. wanna blades n such more with you , will always support ya 1 million % , thanks > tom !
thank you for checking us out. it's always good to see another vet. we overlapped a little, I was active 85-94. until I had a disagreement with a parachute... spoiler, it won.
WHAZZZZ UP OTIP . The REV be the Best value full size Multitool from Leatherman. Joker Knives and ESEE knives is where I'd go for the fixed blades. For the folders, that's tough cause sooooo many options. I would say get something with a sheepsfoot or Wharncliffe blade and then another that's drop point or spear point. And I'd suggest micarta or g10 on one folder and titanium or carbon fiber on the other. One of the folders should be quite rust resistant steel and the other have a high edge retention. AND, I would have done the requirements as 5 knives for $500, that way you can shift funds a little on each knife. ALL TOGETHER I say this was an excellent topic and you put some solid thoughts on it. Great video Sir.
I do really like Esee and Joker, but trying to stay under the $80 makes them a bit tough. same for TOPS, which I have had outstanding performance from. thanks for watching.
Dirk is good people. Enjoyed the history , thanks for sharing.
I was really excited when Dirk said he would send this for me to look at. and I am sure he was happy when it came home to him in the same condition it left. we have a very good community, and helping each other out with stuff like this just makes it stronger. thank you for watching.
