Paul Morphy if teleported into current time might start out at 2400 but after playing games against GMs of today he would develop to their standard. There is plenty of evidence where he lost one or two games against the best players of his time and then went onto dominate them in games played after. Essentially he would learn and develop and adapt his play. He definitely had the potential to be the best player ever.

Morphy will be remembered in 200 years, with Capa, Fischer, Carlsen... Nobody will remember Hikaru in 50 years

Morphy was higher than 2400 and Fischer was simply on the same level of Kasparov ....that's typical hikaru.....hikaru will never be a world champion , so I guess knowing that really irks him because he has computers, engines and far better coaches and seconds than Morphy or Fischer ever had excess to ......very tragic and lame Mr Nakamura!

Fischer was king in an era of chess greats. Morphy was king in an era of chess nobodies. Today there are only 2 or 3 players with a higher rating than Fischer and they have the benefit of 6 decades of chess and the era of the chess engine.

But Morphy did something that only very few chessplayers ever achieved: he gave the world immortal games, and not only a handful but dozens and dozens of it. Not just chessgames, Morphy's best games were works of art, that people still enjoy even 150 years later.

Kasparov's reply shows his love of the game and how true talent knows how to recognize talent. His props to Magnus was a very humble response with high respects and admiration. Well said Kaspy. Well said.
