How to get into yachting? - some questions answered
Hi i m a chef,but i would like to do a support boat, crew boat.whats the first qualif i can make?thanks.😉
I would like to ask about the age restrictions? What are the realistic possibility of getting in to industry after 40ies?
Would the flag registery work or a ptet letter is a must ?
Yes it will be my first time applying for American visa
How about the expenses going home?
Thanks for the information about yachting..where i can apply o submit my application..tnx
It depends where you would like to be based. As I mentioned in the video, you will have to go to where the boats are. There is no one place to apply, you have to ask around and actively look for work.
Saludos 😊
Hello mrs dray i like your sharing in this content, so from me my title is chef de partie
Mrs.dray i have some skill in cooking knowledge like i can cook some food from western and baljan so possible i work in yachts?
Yes you can. As long as your English is good and you can work well under pressure and are qualified, you can easily work on yachts.
So late im to follow your content, so i would like your business in yacht, appreciate for sharing
What if you really want to come back but have no proof. No job, no house, etc. Most jobs require the visa, but the visa requires work in SA. Please help😢
I’m just as confused, how are we supposed to go over if nobody accepts you without the visa? And no jobs will wait for you to sort it out
I don't understand your question, sorry. Go back where?
Firstly, you cannot leave your home country without the visa. So yes, you will not get hired if you don't have it....Seeing as you will need it to go over to the USA, this is a no-brainer.
So do you have to say that your not looking for work if your a yachtie during the interview?
For the visa interview, no, but if you are applying with boat papers, then naturally you can say that it’s for work.
I mean, you cannot apply for this type of visa if you say you are going over looking for work… they will then deny your visa and tell you to apply for a work visa instead
🌺 "Promosm"
I live a few hours from Ft. Lauderdale. Been thinking on getting my requirements but have seen it might be hard to get hired if you have tattoos. Is that true? I have half an arm sleeve (elbow& up) and other visible tattoos on my leg and collar bone🥲
It can be tough because not all boats are open to tattoos. Check my playlist here “Things you should know”, in there is a video that I did exactly about the topic of tattoos.
Wow! 🤩 😮
That looks like it must have been intense! Look at all of that gear!
Could you please guide us how to get all this document for bartender
Which documents are you referring to? The yacht CV tmeplate? - Just a heads up there is no such role as just 'bartender' onboard a yacht.
And don't forget when you are making your CV, don't lie about skills you don't posess. If you don't speak Italian or Swedish, don't list it as a skill. Same thing as 'good with children' and you actually don't like kids at all. May seem silly but I've seen both of these scenarios pop up. A person lied about the languages she spoke amd another person got a job to be the caretker of the yacht owner's 2 children, aged 4 and 6 and she hated kids and they did not like her either as she had not the temperament, skillset or maturity to deal, with kids. A job that later fell to me because she was let go. Lying might get you the job, but you will be found out and then blacklisted. All yachties, including captains and crew placement reps talk. Your reputation is everything in yachting. Don't ruin it.
True story! Really sucks that people are dishonest! Thank you for commenting this, I hope people will read it and take note ;)
How come for job applications they ask for a b1/b2 visa in hand? I’m a greenie and this is reducing the amount of jobs I can apply for!
This just means that they are looking for someone who already has this visa sorted. So if you don't have one yet, then just keep looking for boats that don't require it. Right now it will be hard because most of them will be going over to the USA for the Caribbean season.
So the classes do teach you how to network. That's the biggest thing I'm worried about because I don't actually know how to do that. Learning service/laundry/cleaning etc. is the "easy" part.
They don't normally teach you how to network as far as I am aware but...you have given me a great topic to do a video on next! thank you!
Hello ma'am Im from India I hv been 2 year work experience in dubai yachts company as a main crew, now Im seeking job in European countries for improving my skills & bright future, kindly please give the details & requirements
I recommend that you watch my How to find work on a yacht video. It explains everything you need to do, step by step. :)
I’ve been bartending and serving at upscale restaurants in west palm beach FL for years and I have a food handling certificate and a responsible alcohol vendor certificate. Do you happen to know if those are equivalent to the food handling certificate requirement you mentioned? I also have a medical background and was ACLS certified at one point. Plus I spent my childhood and young adult life driving my family’s boat (24” Boston whaler) and I have my boater’s license so I know a thing or two about small vessels/general boat safety and maintenance. Are there any portions/exams in the STCW that I can sit for without taking an actual course or is the course itself part of the requirements? I’m wondering if I can self-study and save some money. (BTW I’m not under the false impression that I don’t still have a lot to learn) Thank you!!
SO the STCW is a mandatory requirement for you to work on yachts. It might be different for boats that are based in the USA and dont really leave to go to other countries, but any vessel that goes to sea, all crew must have their STCW. There are 5 different certifications that make up the entirety of the STCW certification. You will also require a seafarers medical certificate such as an ENG1 or equivalent. I hope this helps?
Hi! Im looking to take training courses in Spain and was curious what schools i should go to to have all of the requirements and training.i am aiming for early may to start courses
There are quite. a number of schools in Barcelona, a quick google search will sort it out ;)
I was denied my visa because l overstayed due to my baby moma l met during my Visa J1 Visa. I exited the US to my home country, l Ave my kids in USA very young age at 3 and 4 years old what should l do .My kids are tired of calling daddy come home daddy come home over two years now please help .
I am afraid I cannot help you. I am not an immigration officer, you should contact the US embassy in your home country and speak to them about it directly.
Heyyyy.......thanks for sharing. I really want to work on a yacht but have no experience and the skills yet. I started watching below deck, and l started having this feeling that l really want to be part of them. It really fun and amazing 👏 😍 ❤️. So where do l start from. I need some advice
That's great news! I actually offer a complete guide on how to get started in the industry, it is currently only available in a digital booklet form (with links to the videos) as we are in the process of rebuilding our new platform, where this course will then also be hosted. If you'd like to get access to my masterclass booklet in the meantime, please send me an email to dray@yachtieflix.com
How much does officer get in yacht?
It depends....the current going rate for a chief officer varies depending on the size and operating choices of the yacht...so it varies between $5500 to $8000 per month. (Charter vessels normally have a slightly lower salary as the crew make tips during the season)
I don't understand . Is this money in dollar or euro?
Depends if you are in Europe or in the US 😂
I repeatedly say Euros in the video.
So it's in EUROS
I am now in the process of doing the steps and courses to hopefully become a yachty next year, by then I'll have over a years experience working in a 5 star hotel with a Michelin star restaurant, working all departments..with the skills I would have learnt by next year I want to be able to get on a yacht once I've done the courses...I was thinking of taking a week or two of work next year and doing dock walking etc looking for work, but am I best off just quitting my job once I've saved up enough to spend say 6-8 weeks in a location? And hope I find a job? Or is it likely ill get a call back saying there's a job for you starting in 2 weeks if I go back to England or will it be more I have a job in 2 days if your in the area? I hope this makes sense! Thanks
It's easier to get hired if people see you there. Especially as a green crew member. We always recommend that you go to the yachting hub and make yourself available. It's not very common for yachts to hire green crew and fly them out to where they are...
There's no harm in testing the waters..I mean, you never know, you might land a job during those 2 weeks that you are there.....it happens really often that people land a job on their second day! You wont know until you try.
A good looking teen will always find work on a yacht 😏
Thank you so much for this videos, I’m 30 and just found out about the yachting industry, do you think I’m a little late for it? Because I only see 20 something beginning yachting. I want adventure and a new career. Start yachting has been a big helper in everything.
As long as you have the right attitude, keen-ness and work ethic, you can easily find work up until the age range of about 45ish (to start out)
@@StartYachtingwould this age include 36/37 for stewardesses?
What if you dolkwalking and don’t have a job set up? And from SA? Do you get a holiday visa and what happens if you get work when you don’t have B1
The question about your visa will likely be discussed with you before you get hired. So if there are any isssues, they will let you know beforehand.
😅
Heyyy. .. hope you are doing well. Your videos are very informative, I have learned so many things. I really want to work in yachting but I am 28 now, is it really late to be a yachtie.? Please help me out ... thanks 🤗
It's not too late at all!
I'd buy Tesla stock. 😉
Can u send me your Instagram I'd i will text you in insta
Do you know how long the contract for this job??
Contracts are usually either temporary, seasonal or have no set end. You work days in order to earn holiday/ vacation days. Or if you're lucky, you might end up on a rotation.
Hello - this video is truly valuable. Thank you. Just wandering if starting as a greenie at the age of 33 after extensive land based business experience is something that is possible? Would chief stews younger than you take well to this? If your attitude is one of pure service.
Yes, absolutely. There are so many young chief stews out there who are incredible leaders and dont really care that the newer stews are older than them. It all depends on your attitude.
Is Indians can do the. Yatch jobs
You can yes, it depends on your experience and qualifications and very much on how good your English is.
@@StartYachting then please give me some references to do the job
How about contacting an agent? Not for a specific job. I am looking for a job with a few specificities that minimize the jobs I can apply for in this FL season. Ive been thinking about meeting an agent in person and registering with her/him. Is that something that people usually do?
Yes. You can register with a few yachting agents and then it is actually recommended to make an appointment to go meet with them
Yes
This webinar will be available on the Yachtieflix site next week.
Hello! What do you think about Hill Robinson company? I have been contacted lately by them but I can’t really find useful informations online. Thank you very much for your time!
They are well known company and are usually very good. Registering on their website can be painful though as it is very slow. I don't think they have updated it in a long time. But yes, they are legit.
Would you consider an entry working on a Bravo Channel Below Deck series a plus or negative?
It depends on what Bravo is looking for. It's always best to first have a bit of experience before allowing the world to see your working capabilities ;)
This was great
First thank you for your video so helpful 😊. Second I'm 43 yrs old and I'm afraid I might be to old to start a career in yatching. U see alot of 20 something's . I have worked at a country club for years. I have worked in almost every field except management. I also have a few great members who want to write me a letter of recommendation. Do u think it will be harder cause of my age or do u feel my skills are beneficial enough to land me a job? I know tv is different than real life but I am just concerned because I don't want to keep spending money to get there if there no way. I have my stcws and I'm taking my eng1 in a few weeks. I really would love ur honest feed back. Ty.
It might take longer to find work but it's more your attitude and work ethic that will really count when it comes to joining the industry. If you are not a clock watcher and always keen on learning as much as possible, then I don't see how it would be difficult. Please take a look at our playlist labelled " Interviews with Yachties". Joe and Chantal are also older and they give their input on how it was for them finding work.
Hi, Im interested
This webinar will be available to view on the Yachtieflix website by next week.

thanks for this valuable information :D
You're most welcome
Is there any age limit to be yacht stewardess?
It depends on the yacht.
