I was in college in 1967 tuning my radio for music in Angola Indiana and accidentally tuned in to St. Louis Blues game and a fight was taking place. The announcer made it feel so real I was hooked on hockey and soon NBC came along with ( Peter Puck) and the rest is history!

The Chicago Stadium was like Thunderdome or an old Coliseum all kinds of crazy behavior surrounding that place people smoking in the stands people getting robbed outside on Madison Ave. 2nd balcony SRO banging on the walls. People throwing beer on anyone not wearing a Hawks jersey … the entire place smelled like stale beer God I miss those days

This Chicago announcer ALWAYS counts a swing and a miss as a punch landed for the Hawks. Especially when Probert was with Detroit and fighting a Blackhawk when in reality Probert was the clear winner.

Stevens couldn’t fight, so he resorted to running guys and taking headshots. Instead of suspending him for it the NHL protected him as an “elite player” and allowed him to do it, repeatedly. Stevens ends up with a Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe trophy and the NHL spends the next 10 years asking “how do we get head shots and concussions out of hockey?” Lost me as a serious fan from that point onward.
