Andrew from WM says that he’s had customers reporting 350 wheel through these. I feel like the 220 or whatever you’re going to get should be fine but the NC trans is the safest bet for boost as that thing is a tank.

@@MachMotorsport it’s fantastic. Zero issues since I installed it. I have zero worries now. I was having issues with picking up the rear wheel when I was autocrossing and that’s what was causing the old ones to break. I had that happen quite a few times with the Walter Motorsports trans and I had zero issues or worries. If you watch all of the autocross videos since this upload, those all have the Miata with the WM trans.

@@IkarusMotorsports Was picking up the rear wheel causing torsional load into the trans case? I'm assuming the OS Giken diff is also helping maintain power. I have an ND2 thats tracked a lot and just recently 3rd gear has been sticky to get into on either downshift or upshift

@@themachadogroup3754 yes. The problem with the ND trans, either 1 or 2 (they are the same) is that the case studs don’t provide any strength and the case flexes. The stock gears also aren’t shot peened or heat treated so they shed oil. The WM trans has open oil passages, 10mm case studs and heat treated and shot peened gears and a few other things I’m forgetting

The alloy that Mazda uses for their trans case is cheap and not very strong this is due to Mazda trying to remove as much weight from the nd as they could. Older generations of the Miata don’t have this issue because the case alloy is dense and strong. That combined with the weak case studs cases the flex and breakage.

@@IkarusMotorsports Yes, this is what I’ve been reading. Many people believe it’s an internal thing i.e. synchros, etc but the 15lbs they shaved from the previous NC trans was primarily in the case strength

@@sanghyunlee8254 it was hard to find but I found some numbers on Miata forums. I used 75-85 ft/lbs if I remember correctly. I could be way wrong so take that with a grain of salt.

@@arcadeattic if we were drag racing it then we would definitely do something different or add a ton of power. But, this is an endurance racing car, specifically a lemons car where we have a strict budget. No room in the budget for a turbo or another swap.

Oh definitely. Manuals for any sort of track driving will always be more fun. Stay tuned for the other manual cars that we do autocross though. Fiestas are a blast! Plenty of fast guys drive fiestas.
