Mercedes C250 2012 DPF regeneration
Symptoms:
- Check engine light is on.
Fix:
- Ensure no engine related fault codes are present (they will prevent the DPF from starting)
- Ensure there is more than 25% fuel in the tank
- Start the DPF regeneration with the scan tool
- After DPF regeneration is complete, reset the ECU and check that no DPF related fault are present.
- Take the car on a short test drive to verify the check engine light stays off and no fault codes come back.

I was called in a workshop to help with an Audi A5 3.0L (Common Rail Diesel) that came in with the “glow plug indicator” light flashing, most likely caused by a blocked DPF filter. Great informational video, it would've been nice to see the fault code before as well as after changing the battery. On a pessimistic note: Why can't the system, when disconnected realise 'this could be a new battery' and re calibrate itself? VW got caught trying to trick emissions testing awhile back; this appears to be another software system to keep service and repairs inhouse.
I own a 2004 e55 AMG and this is the second SBC unit in it now. It looks like it was replaced in 2005 and it is telling me that the service life is over due to too many actuations again, I'm not so sure it will be replaced free a second time...
For cripes sakes... leave it to Audi VW to make battery charging system and replacement so complicated 🙄
Je conseille fortement une vidange moteur après toutes ces régénérations. Car du gasoil est descendu dans le bloc moteur. Quand il y a régénération du gasoil est envoyé dans la chambre de combustion à un certain moment pour ne pas être brûlé. ( certains moteur ont un injecteur sur la ligne d’échappement et donc non pas ce problème mais très rare car trop coûteux car un injecteur de plus )Et donc finir dans le fap pour pouvoir faire augmenter la température vers 550 700° . Il y a donc toujours du gasoil qui descend sur les parois du cylindre qui va dans le carter moteur .Faire le niveau d’huile avant et après pour ce rendre compte . Du gasoil dans l’huile n’est vraiment pas bon surtout pour le turbo. 😊

Which can also be solved by telling them to run the car longer, maybe ask them to take a quick blast up one junction or two of a motorway. most of these new cars become blocked due to short trips.
Thats not the only way you get these issues. Sometimes you get a issue with Turbo or split boost pipe and so on and the Turbo will burn for fuel and oil and very quickly block the DPF up and once it hits a certain level it won't allow itself to automatically regen.
My audi a1 start stop only works if i remove neg batt cable then attach it bk after 5 minutes could the fault lie in the neg battery terminal sensor ?

Great video. I have the issue with my 2008 E320 but in Texas -USA my local MB dealer does not do this kind of DPF regeneration. They want to install a new DPF instead clean my old one. I had my actual DPF cleaned by a company in Texas that only clean DPFs but I still have the engine light on and the code for DPF. The unit was tested after clean up and the test show as soot free. I had the code cleared by some mechanic scanner but the code came back. My car drive good, good fuel mileage but the engine light on bothers me.
What do you recommend for a battery that does not have a BEM code such as an AGM battery from Advance Auto Parts that isn’t one of the brands you listed?
The best method in this case is to type the same part number and adjust the serial number last digit by one different. You must install a likewise battery and same amp hour of course. This completes the reset and allows the car to restart its adaptions. Was taught this by an Audi field engineer incase anyone disagrees ;) in open to hear any other suggestions

Someone installed a non BEM code battery in my Audi Q7 2013. But no code was needed. So what’s the deal ? It’s an Delcor AGM start stop function batt.
Your battery will not last as long as it should.
Why is everyone spending money on something that’s free? MB extended the warranty to 25 years. I have a 2004 W211 and had the SBC replaced about a year ago, free of charge, don’t pay a penny for SBC replacement.

Very good video. I got the same problem with SBC pump failed and my car couldn't stop. Mercedes dealer tow my car to check and replaced new one for free, because I mention it has 25 years warranty. my car is year 2005 E500, has 150000 miles already. The extention warranty saved me $3000. Now run like new car. Very happy dealer provided good service.

Why are you going over 100 km/h when the procedure clearly states to keep speed under 50 km/h ????
Probably that warning has to do something with safety reasons - if you get distracted... But here the dude doing the diagnostic is not driving so... It doesn't really matter. For the engine is pretty much the same story if you drive with 2000 RPM at 100 km/h or 50 km/h. What really matters is the RPM. You need to build some RPM in order to heat the DPF. This is just my suggestion tho, I'm not a pro, but occasionally I drive with higher RPM (around 2500-3000) in order to clean the DPF. If it is not terribly blocked, the car will do a regeneration without even noticing it, in order to do that - you need to drive on a highway on a lower gear with enough RPMs and the magic will happen, even without the fancy tool.
