MURATA TAMU Solo Performance On One Of The Most Difficult NEMOPHILA Song For Her To Play.. or is it?
"This song is pretty devilish and it almost kills my legs." - Murata Tamu of NEMOPHILA (Rhythm & Drums Magazine, 2022)
Indeed, Murata Tamu claimed that this song is one of the most difficult NEMOPHILA songs for her to play. As a drummer who is in-charge of the drumming in all NEMOPHILA songs, she did include something special somewhere in her notations. However, for this particular song, I don't think she add that special element or spectacular rolls anywhere but on the other hand, the entire drums from start to finish are just brutal so I think I get what she meant when she said this is one of the most difficult song for her.
Since the final arrangements for their earlier works were overseen by Kensuke Akiyama, sometimes he asked Tamu to tone it down a little, but sometimes she was asked to do more.
In HYPNOSIS, for example, Tamu submitted 2 sets of notations and Kensuke Akiyama first taught that the intense drums solo set would be perfect for the live performance, but not for the recordings. However, during the rehearsals, SAKI stepped in and asked Tamu try her crazy notations, which later convinced everyone that it fits the groove of the song entirely.
Murata Tamu is very flexible and resourceful to enhance the tune since she is very prominent in improvisation drumming, one of many qualities shared by musicians with Jazz background. Mastering Jazz drumming technique is more challenging compared to rock or metal drumming. In a nutshell, when a Jazz drummer said it is difficult, IT IS difficult.
However, watch Tamu play this song and you can see that it is just like a walk in the park for her. As I mentioned earlier, I get it when she said its difficult but when she's actually doing it, well maybe I just don't get it. I am not sure if she get used to it and became easy over time or the difficult ones are her "favorite playground".
I used to be a frequent visitor to a jamming studio aeons ago and yes I do understand the feeling of slaying the difficult ones without any noticeable errs (by others... I do, since most of the times, I am the culprit hehe), it was very fulfilling and overwhelming that we want to keep doing it.

Murata Tamu, my favourite drummer! I love the energy and passion she puts into her playing and of course, her infectious smile ❤
I am a bit surprised by the bass playing. The bass has strongly slanted frets. That is, of course, because you then can get a more comfortable grip when reaching up the neck. Sounds fine. But Satori do not reach up but moves the hand parallel to the neck. And then slanted frets are just annoying. Why then have slanted frets?
@@rolandkarlsson7072 i guess its down to what song he is playing... because just it is there, it doesn't necessarily to be utilize at every moment in any song at every opportunity. Maybe you can't expect a drummer will use all those cymbals in every song although their drumkit is equipped with dozens of cymbals of every type? Hmmm maybe... 🤔🤷🏻♂️

@@rolandkarlsson7072 I know who is Satori ... and I use others as an example since you said he 'can' get more comfortable, not he 'must' because of the slanted frets availability... meaning he have the option to do so, and also, not to. To use slanted frets is not only for comfort but also a creative decision of specific musical needs for the player to produce. Comfort level also is different for each individual. In dive bomb for example, a whammy bar or pedal is consider the norm but as for me, I prefer pre bending or at times on certain notes, sliding could also work if you do it right. My guitar have a whammy bar which is easier or make more sense for dive bombing but I am used to other techniques ...and only go for whammy bar when the sound I want to produce only achievable when reaching for it - to use it or not is the creative decision, unless you look at it as a specific solution tool/design i.e. simple and easy dive bomd... as in slanted frets case, comfortable grip. Nevertheless, he is endorsing Ibanez and Ibanez recognized him worthy of representing their brand that have been in the business for decades so I do think he knows his instruments well. Oh I am in no way downplaying your take on it, just throwing my two cents. Cheers 🤘🏻
@@blackucing I am just surprised. The frets are slanted for being able to get a better tone when holding the finger slanted. And he do not do that. He is playing like the bass had no slanted frets. All musicians here are very good and I really like his playing. I am just confused by his choice of bass when he do not use its most outstanding feature. Of course, one more advantage of the slanted fret is that the deepest string is longer. Maybe it is a matter of getting the best tone due to another choice of string. Maybe? Anyhow, I am intrigued. Would be nice to know the thinking behind it.
I still can't believe how amazing hazuki is. She looks so unassuming, but she absolutely shreds. Very underrated. 🤘😎🤘
Such a happy drummer, her smile reflecting her love of being such an outstanding musician and performer. Her skills and the ability to readjust her drumming techniques are incredible. Her heart and soul are within the power she gives. Tamu just delivers awesome playing and control. Coordination is over the scale. Just adore this remarkable woman 🥁🤘🌟🇬🇧

Listen to "Get on the Tailwind" by MADA MITAKOTO NO NAI SEKAI, it is one of Mitsuru's many projects. She played the drums on that song and album, an absolutely amazing album.
I don't play the drums, but I always thought that "Adabama" was very difficult to play, very technical for the drums
@@nicolaskiepol3640 it could be... because that interview was in early 2022 while ADABANA released in mid 2022. Of course they had the song ready by then but she wouldn't expose their 'insider news' to the media just yet. However, if we look at ADABANA, there is only 1 'difficult section' and in HYPNOSIS there are 2 sections, the drum solo parts and about 1 or 2 measures after that solo. Also I do think MONSTERS is more challenging than ADABANA considering the length of that section and don't forget that if we take out that section in ADABANA, the rest could only be just a warming up sections for Tamu. DISSENSION on the other hand doesn't have the kind of stood-out sections as aforementined 3 songs but its a constant locked-in for the rest of the song with only 2 rests (short after intro, long after guitar solo) . So I do think that DISSENSION drumming is another kind of beast and SEIZE THE FATE as close second (without considering G.O.D. and PROGRESS 🤔). BUT... I don't play drums too so I dunno 😅

I loved from the first time i heard her play, and shes always so happy, and smiling
From the last 2 tracks released, I noticed that Tamu went off pretty hard and showed a little bit of the beast inside her. I am not sure if this is the results of their new approach or a new producer. Nevertheless, its good that there are more involvement by the band members in the music production. As per description, Kensuke Akiyama is no longer with them moving forward, but he is open to the possibility of working with NEMOPHILA again in the future. This is what he said... "Since the new system of NEMOPHILA has been established, I am no longer involved in the current situation! I'm looking forward to the day when we can work together again, and I'm watching over everyone's growth! I can't wait to see what kind of band they will become." - Kensuke Akiyama, May 2024.

Relax... as Mr. Akiyama said, NEMOPHILA established a new system for their future, seems like they have a plan and it is a good thing... and no, there is no clash between them since he is willing to work with NEMOPHILA again if asked to do so. Also, it is not uncommon for a band to change producers. NEMOPHILA have lots to offer so let's just watch over their growth together with Mr. Akiyama. 👌🏼

Hazuki's solo is glorious !! I love the fusion of metal and jazz fusion ,!! I love the bassist and drummer too! The basisst is so skilled and I like his style too. The drummer is a beast and honestly I'm loving this composition !!
