Just a year before the Blade Runner: Director’s Cut release, a sequel to an ‘80s box office hit landed in theaters and was roundly rejected by audiences and critics. And by 1995, that film’s director got the chance to release his director’s cut and changed the movie to a degree that effectively changed history. The movie was Highlander II: The Quickening. And this is why it failed. The Rules Of...

The 4 Most Explosive Space Battles Ever Are From One Iconic Sci-Fi Series

What are the biggest and best space battles in science fiction? Some argue they're in Star Wars. Others might pick Babylon 5 or Star Trek. But we think they're all in one massive television series called Battlestar Galactica. These are the best ship battles of the entire BSG franchise, and maybe in all of sc-fi and entertainment. This clever sci-fi family movie was pretty much doomed from the outset thanks to comparisons to another movie starring Robin Williams. Twenty years later, it’s time to admire Zathura: A Space Adventure flick for what it is: a fantastic adventure story that not only stands as the best entry in the Jumanji franchise but as a stellar movie all on its own. And it's all thanks to Iron Man director J...
The Best Star Trek Episode Isn't A Fantasy, It's Real

What is the best Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode? The answer is very clear. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was a game-changing entry in the Star Trek canon. While Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager continued with the more traditional space adventure tone that had been set by Star Trek: The Original Series, this series went a very different route with its approach. 4 Of Sci-Fi's Most Explosive Battles Are In An Underrated Franchise
มุมมอง 167Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Science fiction movies and TV shows are full of big space battles, but it’s rare to see those attempt some kind of realism. There are a few recent exceptions. The Expanse wowed audiences with a realistic depiction of what future space battles might be like. And the 2000s Battlestar Galactica used real Newtonian Physics to make some of the most incredible space slugfests ever captured on screen....

Iconic, Blockbuster 80s Sci-Fi Movie ERASED From Existence! Save It!
2 shows in the last decade; The Expanse & The Orville. Everything else 20+ years old. It's almost like the reality TV virus has been winning.
Killjoys is another good series.
I HATE the stargate tv show. I LOVE Stargate Universe.
The American psyche was best personified by Married with Children. That family of four spent most of their time at each other's throat, until somone outside the family dared to even spit on one of the family. Then they were 8 malinois seeking revenge against the idiot who dared to hurt one of them. THAT is what should have happened on SGU, instead, it was endless petty fights and back stabbing with each other; a Soap Opera in Space. Sci Fi fans do appreciate SOME realism in their entertainment, but we want it in Science and how that shapes reality. We can get endless petty fighting in our own lives, we watch Sci Fi to ESCAPE that for a few minutes. The production values of the 2nd Battlestart were phenomenal. The single most frustrating thing about that show was that it was on SyFy channel, and Ron Moore had to adapt his great expanse of a storyline to the reality: he could lose that show at any time. Consequentially, he had to bounce around long term plot points like a drunk butterfly, and an 8 year old ADD kid hopped up on sugar, roled up together. Too much was left on the cutting room floor; we struggled to understand how we got from Point A to point D, despite seeing B and C. Unlike M. Straczynski who mapped out his story line, before he spoke to producers. He seamlessly continuted to tell the same story of B5, in the same timeline, despite his show moving from one network to another. Alas, Farscape, fell victim to that SyFy curse, as well. They were told they had another season, and ended on cliff hanger; to be told they wouldn't get another year to finish that story line. Thankfully, the fans through crap at the Network and we got 2 movies to finish the story. Poor Firefly, somone at Fox hated that show and did everything possible to derail it, before it could get started. They didn't even air all the finished episodes! THAT was modern story telling where the Heros are the Bad Guys fighting against a corupt system. Although a novel approach at that time, this premise has not fared well in the hands of Post Millenials, who fight against reality with their own narrative, making Reality-their Villain. You missed Earth 2, which was a fascinating show, that was derailed because New Mexico renigged on the contract with the production company, and they didn't try to save the show, by looking for another area with the same geography. You didn't mention Majell Roddenbury's 2 shows she produced from her husbands abandoned projects. They both aired in syndication: Earth-the Final Conflct and Andromeda. They were different enough to not BE Star Trek, but the same ideologies and thematic premises were all there -which made them pail shadows of Star Trek... like putting lipstick on a pig. And to be frank, I don't like Star Trek, because of Roddenbury, but it was the only Sci Fi on TV at the time TNG aired. DS9 and Enterprise were done after Roddenbury was gone, and I liked them much better. Although, I don't agree with your enumeration of the shows, you hit the best. My top 5 are: The OG Stargate, DS 9 [because it was a knock of of B5], Firefly, Farscape, and B5.
Didn't watch this, but came here just to say: Anything is better than Star Wars... #notsorry
Underwater is incredible!!
The Expanse did such a great job with world building interweaving politics amongst the three factions. It's the only show that depicted how physics works on the real world
“Space Battleship Yamato”. Both the original anime and the Funimation reboot but not the live action adaptation.
One of my top 5 favorite movies.
Firefly was great. The rest of these........not so much.
All great sci-fi. It got me thinking about a hidden gem “Space Precinct 2040”. Maybe dated a bit, surprisingly good.
More UK TV? Blake's 7, Space 1999, , The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
SG1!!!
stupid list
Dark Matter, Lexx, Star Blazers, Space Above and Beyond, Andromeda and Crusade all deserve to be on the list. Honorable mentions Dr. Who, Seven Days, Lost in Space, Buck Rogers, Space 1999, Earth Final conflict, Flash Gordon both series, and the original Battlestar Galactica. Both Andromeda and Earth final conflict are also by Gene Roddenberry is that why they didn't make the list? Is there a list for the many steaming shows? It also can be argued the first season of Discovery wasn't Star Trek as well.
babylon is nr1 by far, not only, but mainly, because ot goes so much beyond any other science fiction series. it goes beyond the galaxy. beyond known history.
I loved Battlestar but The Expanse is simply superb. Also, if you want weird check out Lexx.
Great list until the end. BG,Battlestar, was ,is and always will be the worst scifi has to offer. I'm a scifi nut and have been longer than most have been alive. I'm 72yrs old and first started reading scifi when I got my uncles left over monthly sci fi mags. I cutbmy teeth on Asimov, Clark and others. I guess I am a priest and love it when science and fiction gel and both support each other. The silly space battles of Star Wars and Battlestar ruin it all. I admit ,SW does tell a good story which makes up with scenes of ships literally dropping bombs on another in space.
It's a good list. I do, however, have a separate but relevant observation. I'd like to point your attention to this Jesus guy. You've probably heard about him, God incarnate, but never took the time to look into it more closely. It looks like fantasy/ scifi from the outside, but it's actually real, making the plot twist really exciting, even when you know it's coming. Learning about him, makes other shows less compelling, at least to this 40 something dude that loved BSG when it aired, but found it boring when trying to re-watch it couple of years ago. Thank you for reading and have a nice day.
Space Balls had deserved a longer life in syndication.
If Captain Reynolds would have to Shepperd Book, God is allowed on my boat instead of God ain't, it may have aired a few more seasons. Was it money? Was it contractual? or was Captain Reynolds going to acknowledge God in a later episode. Firefly was the pinnacle of scifi drama.
As a Brit, thanks for the Red Dwarf shout-out. The first 6 series were comedy gold. The Expanse is hands-down my favourite TV show, and has become as dear to my heart as DS9.
Knew someone who couldn't watch B5 cause it made her think.
You missed out "Blake's 7"
BSG is the best. Hands down. Fight me.
STAR TREK and STAR WARS are played out.
The moment you claimed DS9 was the best Star Trek series, you lost me. Good thing you didn't say that at the beginning 😅
Heard of many of them, but just commenting to say I don't like anime,I prefer my characters to be real, not "cartoons". I especially miss The Orville.
I wonder why this dude sounds exactly like a transformer reviewer we all know...
How the hell you put that shit show remake Battlestar Galactica over Babylon 5, Farscape or Firefly is beyond me, it is one of the worst shows ever made and sucked Spaceballs! Babylon 5 was so good that Star Trek stole from it to make both Deep Space 9 and parts of Voyager which would make it number one and even above Star Trek.
Red Dwarf is a CLASSIC
SGU WAS ABSOLUTE FUCKIN GARBAGE
What, no Space 1999?
I'm glad SGU made it on the list, but I personally put it much higher than number 9.
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, TV adaptation.
Thanks!
Sorry, not sorry. Firefly was awful.
Damn, was hoping Space: Above and Beyond would make the list.... or Space Battleship Yamato.... Or Robotech
Same problem as so many movies of its type - good concept, poorly presented mostly due to low budget (low budget means second rate actors, time constraints, bad effects, weak script etc.).
All of the above, except, Deep Space 9. It turned into a talk fest & a sponge head circus. Firefly was a loss to the genre, we know why. The Orville needs another series, for the fans who have supported it, even if it's just to give it an ending. What happened to Battlestar Galactica? In Australia it sort of just disappeared.
G'Kar's opening speech to Moments of Transition, together with the gently picked out notes of the sound track still gives me the chills decades after I first watched it.
If you ever do a video about vampire shows, I wholeheartedly nominate Forever Knight and Kindred: The Embraced.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes reminds me of a pair of CS Friedman novels. More the first than the second.
You forgot Dark Matter (2015-17)
All great shows!
reminds me of the Discovery channel series "Brain Sex". only found a single entry on the entire internet referring to it. on IMDB. no episodes. nothing else. just that single page on one site. just looked it up again. even the IMDB page is barebones and practically non-existant. Art being relagated to some Dust Bin. what about science TV, back when there was such a thing
Expected 'Lex' to be on the list
SG-U was shit until the end and then it was canceled it should have been amazing but it just wasn't.
SGU was just too much of a shock to Stargate fans used to a very different take. Many of us were there by the end of season 2. I remember thinking “cancelled!! I’ve just started caring about it!” That was the problem though. It was a massive diversion from the series’ that came before and it was too much of a slow burn.
Shows mostly yes, order not even close.
