Chatting, trialing, and reviewing skincare, plus, unlearning skincare rules along the way. My skin obsession started in my teens at the Clinique counter (to explain my channel name, haha).
Chanel Skincare Cleansers Guide

Double Cleansing: Cream & Micellar

Skincare is a very personal thing, so I'm not suggesting this sequence of doubling cleansing is best. It is a method that has worked out well for me in terms of maximizing hydration and barrier care. I still use other cleansers throughout the week, this routine is my most common cleansing scenario. Oh and BTW I usually use reusable/washable cotton rounds, I just had a regular one in this video ...

Why I'm Defending La Mer & Miracle Broth 😊
มุมมอง 73521 วันที่ผ่านมา
La Mer and Miracle Broth, as much a mythical part of skincare history as it is a functional skincare product. And probably quite a polarizing brand. I don't know if La Mer is worth the price. I can just tell you I buy into the brand once or twice a year, and have been doing so for many years. As far as luxury brands go, I think La Mer is one that backs it up. My IG: sambythecounte...

Great video… very informative. Where can I buy Biologique in Australia???
It's available via mybr-australia.com you just need to register for an account to view the full website.
I love that you’ve kept your TH-cam going you’re so consistent!
Thank youuu 🥰🥰 It has been more enjoyable than IG, but also way more time consuming, haha.
@@sambythecounter I’m sure!! Keep up the good work!
I have exactly the same thoughts and worse on the kerastase serum, I just myself said the same in my video 😮
You should use skincare that you don't like for your body rather than your face! That's what I always do, especially the ones that I don't enjoy scent wise but don't want to throw away x
Such a great and helpful video! Thank you for the no bs approach 😊
Another great video Sam! And yes, super informative! From the formulas, price point, enjoyment factor, packaging - love to hear your take on things. I’m off to: 1. Open and use the Boum Boum which has been sitting in my stash for a few months (since you mentioned a stability issue), and 2. Order some build items. My curiosity is peaked! Looking forward to the next empties video!
Ooo yes, you should definitely open it. And I hope you enjoy build!! Thanks for watching 😍
I adore La Mer especially the toner and the SPF.
She needs to stick to feet....😳
It needed to be said 👏 brands tend to OVERESTIMATE the repurchase rate of refill products 🫠
Fancy seeing you here!! 😂
👏👏👏👏 I very much appreciate your support of small, unique brands and Build being in Canada is a plus for this Canadian ❤️💯🇨🇦. I also love Future Focus Vitamin C from @poemsfromthelab 🌟🌟 another Canadian product ❤️❤️. Stephen Ko has given us a dream product!
Ah yes!! Future Focus is amazing. And little build deserves all the attention in the world. 🥰
Dude, how do you afford all those products? As a fellow skincare inthusiast/ addict that’s one of the reasons I love Korean skincare. I can try so many products within a reasonable budget. Thanks for the video ❤
Agreed love Korean skincare products
Haha, well, I work a regular job for life things. And then basically anything coming from Instagram ads, I use as splurge spending.
Idk, ive been refilling my fenty hydra vizor for four years now, so hopefully my use makes up for some others 😅
I always assumed you bought those refillable objects when you like the design of them and then just fill it up with whatever product you like??? Like obviously don't buy their refills if you don't like them, just get another brand refill that you do??
It's generally not a good idea to use formulations from other brands when not in their own packaging as stability testing is done with packaging. But also, different brands have different viscosities that suit different pump mechanisms. And the way many brands offer refills isn't cross compatible. Not really an issue for hand wash, but a problem with refills generally speaking. In this particular case, the packaging was just way bulkier than I thought. And the pump doesn't work that well.
despite working in the clean beauty industry i will say refillable skincare SPECIFICALLY is a pet peeve of mine as well. Too many times i experience refillable packaging that lacks better designed mechanisms so i end up with leakage, or refills not fitting quite right in the old container, i want to switch products but its all proprietary systems so i can't refill something with another formula I like. Things people use often and go through quickly like mascara and lip balms i understand refillable systems for but refillable skincare and such has proven to be not the ideal solution. At least for now
Very agreed :)
I have a lot of thoughts on this… I’m in a spot where I’m around La Mer literally all the time. A few years ago I bought into the hype and my whole routine was La Mer apart from their SPF. My favourite products were The Perfecting Treatment and The Treatment Lotion. I also really loved their Revitalising Mask and I do miss using Crème de La Mer. However… in saying all that, for me, someone without eczema, I have not felt like I had to buy their products again after I had moved on. I went through a few 100mL jars and two 30mL jars. Yes, I loved it, but I’m not sure it was because I was only 23 to 25 and young or I wasn’t using them long enough but I didn’t see much difference. I tried every single product, and people would ask me “what’re you using?” And I would say “La Mer The Foundation and I’m also using their skincare” but I think it’s because I looked so dewy and radiant. I’m debating on getting a small jar now. My poor wallet.
The Treatment Lotion and Revitalising Mask are my favourite products from the range - along with the Micellar, which I use as a leave-on toner. I think it is the type of brand where inflammation and dryness are its key targets, and these are likely skin issues that become more significant in your 30s and beyond. Thanks for the feedback, always great to hear different perspectives.
I went to Mecca Aesthetica a few weeks ago and got P50W for the first time. I was using Glossier’s Solution before that. I have to admit, I actually do love the P50W. I was going to get the cleanser but I think it was over $200 for the big size! I was able to buy a few of Chanel’s Le Lait milk to oil and milk to water and I’m happy I got them but once I’m out I might bite the bullet and get the Lait VP… just so expensive ffs.
Aw that's great to hear, especially that you're enjoying P50W. The regular P50 is that little bit stronger too. I didn't get a chance to try Chanel's milk to oil, but it sounded lovely. And it would probably be worth trying a mini Lait VIP O2 anyway to ensure it suits you before committing to full size.
Theramid delivers to the US so you can get Azid here.
If i wear an spf i cant get it off with a cream cleanser. Instead i use a gently foaming cleanser
Whatever works best for you is the way to go. 🙌
Love the ordanairys cream glicolipid clenser i actually just bought a new one and short story was i bought that clenser and was in the shopping centre called the glen at glen Waverley i had the cleanser with me and i went into a really good Korean skincare shop with all you could want in skincare products and i left my clenser on the counter as id brought other products there didn't find out till i got home had to go back the next day wear they had passed my clenser onto lost property 😂😂😂didn't want to be without it love the coconut aroma from it and it does a really good job.are the French cleansers expensive to perchase and have shipped to you have seen this brand and just allways thought no maybe not to expensive after taxes and all .is it available in Australia at all .thank you for this utube video i do love a cream clenser being older need norshing ingredients in products
The coconut scent is really nice 😍
Thanks Sam. I use the bioderma micellar water ( pink bottle), followed by the La Roche Posay Caring wash ( I think it’s called the hydrating cleanser in the US). I think/ believe it is very slightly less hydrating (?) than the dermo cleanser they make , but it’s still hydrating and definitely does not strip the skin at all. Slightly milky. Definitely was something I had to get used to when switching to a milky, hydrating cleanser. It made the world of difference to my skin! I have dry, dehydration prone skin ( partially due to health issues, or worsened by health issues), so it’s particularly important for me!
🤩🙌
Interesting. Never thought about it this way.
What exactly are the ingredients? I can’t find them listed anywhere.
The ingredients for Lotion P50? There are different formulations for different skin issues, the one I use is the regular version for seborrheic skin, keratinized skin, and/or breakouts. The INCI is this: WATER (AQUA), GLUCONOLACTONE, LACTIC ACID, GLYCERIN, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, NIACINAMIDE, CITRIC ACID, ETHOXYDIGLYCOL, MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE, MALIC ACID, COCHLEARIA ARMORACIA (HORSERADISH) ROOT EXTRACT, ARCTIUM LAPPA ROOT EXTRACT, RUMEX ACETOSA LEAF EXTRACT, MYRTUS COMMUNIS EXTRACT, ALLIUM CEPA (ONION) BULB EXTRACT, COMMIPHORA MYRRHA RESIN EXTRACT, PHYTIC ACID, SALICYLIC ACID, SULFUR, THYMUS VULGARIS (THYME) FLOWER/LEAF OIL, VINEGAR (ACETUM), SORBITOL, SODIUM BENZOATE, PHENOXYETHANOL, POTASSIUM SORBATE, SODIUM BISULFITE.
@sambythecounter thank you 😊 I am a little worried about the thyme flower/leaf oil and the vinegar. Did you ever find it irritating? I have very sensitive skin and my skin hates a lot of stuff 😂
@@PsiChotic No, definitely not irritating. Just very replenishing. It is quite a low pH though. When I first started using it, it felt very spicy and tingly on the skin, but I never experienced actual irritation. The brand typically recommends that most people start using P50W which is a little less strong. And they sell mini 50mL bottles which is a good size to start without a huge investment. Oh, and they recommend to stop retinoids and other acids like Vitamin C. Ideally for the full 50 days and then you can re-introduce stuff as tolerated. They also tend to offer a free consult service on their website which is worth doing so they can match you to the right P50 formula.
Thanks for doing this. I definitely need help with my melasma. I have used a few on here and they are good. But…looking for that miracle formula. Lately I have been considering Mother Science. Maybe I need to go back to thinking a little more. 😂. Thanks Sam
Thank you. I’ve used the regimen lab level serum and it is fantastic. Not a miracle worker ( of course), but definitely helped even out my skin tone and a few darker sunspots I had/ have. You have to be consistent with it- shortly after I stopped using it, I noticed the brightness of my skin diminished significantly. I found it also improved my general skin health. As for Azelaic acid- I swear every one should at least try it. It’s such a fantastic ingredient and helped ( I do NOT have acne or rosacea)- brightening, as well as reducing my skin overall sensitivity . I do have drey, dehydrated and sensitive skin at times and the combination of level and azelaic acid are wonderful . I use finacea 15% … we are so lucky to have it otc here in Australia. Of course I tried azclear but … well it’s not the nicest and the finacea works better too
Yesss, Finacea is a much nicer texture!!
Great explanation, you made a complicated topic easy to understand
My Tretenoin costs $15. Ill stick to that and use The Ordinary and K Beauty lotions and still save hundreds!
I am disturbed by how accurate this is
😂
What's all the stuff in the cupboard behind you?
Storage of other skincare/body products.
La Mer cream is the only moisturizer that allows me to use tretinoin without irritation.
Make sure you've tried it or don't talk about it - I absolutely agree
I agree with you, I use variety of products expensive and Clcheap, but whenever my skin has conditions from allergies or sun or anything, I use la mer and it works overnight. Also on my kids skins too since they are babies
Love the matt cream from the line used others from the line but like the matt cream the most .
The matte lotion is a great one!!
Yessss to all of this!!!
Pissen down peoples backs tellin em it raining 😂🌧🌧 bit bit like ole Barbra sten run of the mill product for sky high prices 😂😂
Wow that’s crazy
I got one for free
👏👏👏
It looks like eye drops lol
😂
Have you had any issues with redness? Thanks for this video :)
Redness specifically from tret? Not really. At the very start it did make my skin more sensitized. But not really more red. My skin is naturally prone to redness though.
my skin hates sunscreen but found the only one that doesn't cause me breakouts: cetaphil sun spf 50 ultra light! have you tried it?
I haven't tried it myself, good to know though. I'll keep it in mind, thx :)
Good information, thank you
Informative review. Goals: a cabinet full of skincare like you have behind you 😂. Thanks for all your research ❤
Love my retrieve cream at the moment im wearing it with haunbang ginseng emulsion by history of whoo and my skin feels like silk 💋 I have used retin a for years.
Ooo what a combo!!
Do you put it on your neck
I tend to run it under my chin but not specifically on my neck. My neck is very prone to razor burn so I'm a bit afraid of trying it there.
Adapelene to tretinoin was a smooth transition !
For me too!!
Is the cleanser ok for tweens?
I would assume so, it's part of their gentle collection of products.
What is the science behind this.
As in NAG? It's known to weaken the bonds between cells allowing them to shed more easily. Basically encouraging natural desquamation rather than directly exfoliating.
@@sambythecounter so the fermentation of saccharomyces creates n-acetyl glucosamine? please educate me!
@@C4RYB34R I believe NAG is separately sourced from biotech fermentation and then The Ordinary blends that NAG with saccharomyces to create a different fermented by-product or "broth."
Thanks Sam! I prefer the new cicaplast. It doesn’t feel so… I can’t find the word . It spreads, feels and sits slightly nicer on the skin. Nicer texture. Definitely wouldn’t use it all over my face all the time tho- restricted to where it’s needed. I tried a sample of the Avene - from what I remember it felt too much like diaper rash cream 🫣 perhaps I should try again. I’m sure I will get some hate for that comment 🫣 it was a while ago tho, and I am super fussy with textures! Just for extra info- I have dry & dehydration prone skin and hate things feeling heavy on my skin.
Good to know, thx :)
Thank you!
