Point Reyes Hiking 1994 | Bear Valley, Divide Meadow, Arch Rock, Sky Trail, Mt. Wittenberg
มุมมอง 48หลายเดือนก่อน
This was the first hiking video I made from 1994 (I think). My 8mm video camera was pretty much brand new so I used it to shoot some footage on a long hike I did in Pt. Reyes, Ca. I've added an AllTrails link to a map I made of the approximate route I took that day. One notable aspect of this hike is the footage of Arch Rock starting at about 6:15. In 2015, Arch Rock collapsed resulting the dea...

AllTrails: www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/activity-october-12-2024-38ed403?u=i&sh=yiuvox A short but challenging hike in West Reno along Alum Creek. We did a short side trip up to Cross Peak as well. We started this hike off of Pinebuff Trail in Caughlin Ranch in West Reno. The AllTrails map will show you where we parked. This hike could be quite different in the Spring when there is more ...

AllTrails: www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/activity-october-7-2024-faacbcd?u=i&sh=yiuvox My wife, Kristen, had set a goal to climb Tallac (again...she's done it before) quite a while back. Then, earlier this year on a backpacking trip, she injured her knee and had to have surgery in July. Even so, she kept her goal of climbing Tallac. Ten weeks out from her surgery, she completed her goal! ...

*AllTrails*: www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/activity-september-22-2024-54e8912?u=i&sh=yiuvox This is a relatively flat 5 mile hike along Sagehen Creek. The trailhead is located north of Truckee off of highway 89. There is a small dirt parking area on the east side of 89. I would recommend a high clearance vehicle to get off the road and into the parking area, but if you're careful and go s...

AllTrails: www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/activity-september-1-2024-ce78d1d?u=i&sh=yiuvox The Sierra Buttes are located a little less than two hours from Reno near the town of Sierra City in Northern California. Hendy Woods and Elk - July 2024
มุมมอง 3223 หลายเดือนก่อน
Our favorite spot to camp near the Northern California coast. Hendy Woods is a lovely campsite located in the Anderson Valley. The campsite features two impressive redwood groves and the nearby Navarro River. This is a wine growing region so there are lots of places to go wine tasting. The Anderson Valley Brewing Company is a short drive away and they have a lovely tap room. The coastal town of...

We're did you park I'm next to 80 near the home depot
Glad WINTER is upon us; TIME FOR RENEWAL.......😊
Renewal and maybe a snow hike or two 😀
Thanks for the update!
Perhaps some hikes in Oregon?
Oh, I’m excited you did this! It’s my goal to complete next summer! Good job Kristen!!! 🎉
Nice hike. But the destination is a dud. All I could think was "pipe in the wall?" It's obviously not what it used to be.
There’s something more interesting nearby that I need to investigate one day.
@@sierranevadahikes8538 I suggest you approach Virginia City from the north 341/342. The "mole hill" mounds of failed gold mine attempts, is wild. Virginia must sees : The graveyard Pipers Opera House
Outstanding scenery and ambience my friend!
Wish I had a better camera than my little consumer 8mm camcorder. I’ll be back some day to capture it all in 4K.
Are U hiking WEST, up toward Mt. Rose
This is more or less heading west from the Thomas Creek trailhead.
So, NEAT.....
Absolutely, BEAUTIFUL.....THANK U, FOR SHARING......😊
An incredible accomplishment ten weeks post surgery! The views are stunning - wow.
Well done!!🎉
Thank U folk's; BEAUTIFUL.....
You’re welcome!
I like the geology info!
I am a bit of a geology nerd…
This looks amazing! Too bad I missed this on my trip to Kauai! So sad, I'll return and do this one
Good idea! Just keep in mind it’s a strenuous hike. Bring lots of water!
@@sierranevadahikes8538 for sure water is important looks hot! I've done some difficult on Oahu, so I think I should be fine. I'll be careful for when I do it though 😁
It's a nice spot up there! A fun hike but can be a little rough on a hot day as there's absolutely no shade besides those couple trees in the canyon.
Ridiculous😂
Not as scary as it looks, but if you’re afraid of heights it could be a little dicey.
Great video. I've been wanting to make this hike (soon...before the snow comes) and really appreciate this...
If you go a little further and climb the hill past the hole you can see one of concrete arrows that were used to guide planes bringing air mail to Reno. I’ll make a video one day.
Looks to be a vibrant ecosystem; gorgeous.....
I think my Australian Shepherd will appreciate the National Monument to the Basque Shepherds.
Love the sound of the creek❤
What a beautiful walk!
It was. Also surprisingly warm for late September.
Hey, I know those people! 😂
No way!! You do??
Besides the sheet, did you see any wildlife elk or mule deer?
We only saw the mountain goats. We did see loads of Mormon crickets on the first day as well.
Gorgeous views!
Oh my goodness! Those stairs! Well done brother. Thanks for sharing the views - spectacular. I love seeing the world through your eyes.
Definitely one of those “don’t look down” situations!
I now have this on my "To Do" list.
It is definitely worth it. Go on a clear day!
_This hike is stunning! Your passion and determination are inspiring. Thank you for sharing this incredible adventure. You've showcased the beauty of nature and the strength of human spirit._
Thank you! I always try (sometimes successfully) to capture the beauty that I’m seeing. The videos pale to reality.
I’ve done both through Bishop pass route to Paiute pass and Bishop pass route through the Lamark Col a few times. Nice campsite at Darwin’s bench. Both trips in late September in a lot of snow. Once in July through heavy snow where both Helen Lake and Wanda Lake were both frozen over and trails were completely covered with snow from Big Pete meadow until nearly North Lake. Saw five people the entire time
Sounds epic! Yes, it was nice to see so few people (except along the PCT / JMT)
Excellent video! The slow motion and music really created a mood..not to mention great clouds and scenery. I am headed up next week for Langley day hike, most likely via Old Army Pass, maybe come down New Army if my feet aren't already stomped out. I have done Whitney 3x, but have not been in the area for many years, so am too excited to get back. Thanks.
Have a great hike!
At 3:24, armed prickly poppy, argemone munita. At 5:29, arrow leaf balsamroot. At 6:13. snow plant, sarcodes sanguinea.
Thank you!
So many good memories in Hendy Woods! Love it. 💜
Hate to say it but it looks kinda boring compared to Sierra hikes and other places along the left coast.
It certainly is very different from the high Sierras. That’s one of the reasons we enjoyed it.
@@sierranevadahikes8538don't tell anyone. But do the lower part. From usal road and hike through to shelter cove. I'm doing it on Sunday giving myself a week. 30lb pack 8lb food 5lb water. The rest is clothes, hammock tent, knife, axe, and gun. And all the little extras. I was at bear harbor a few weeks ago and it was so amazing I decided to solo hike the whole trail. I saw many people coming through bear harbor camp from Wheeler so it's passable regardless of what is said online. It was completely fogged out when I went a few weeks ago. Should get at least a few clear days and nights this comming week.
Nice hike!
Thanks 😀 I highly recommend this as an easy backpacking adventure.
Did this exact hike 3 summers back now. Only thing we added was a zero day at Evolution Lake for a day hike to Muir Hut.
Gorgeous and TOUGH hike - well done!
Careful of the RATTLE SNAKES that Line the ditch ......
Didn’t see any on this hike, but I’m sure they’re there!
Excellent video! I definitely learned from this because I would have tired to blast all the way onto the PCT/JMT the first day, clearly a better move to ease up at that elevation. One question though, when you crossed the San Joaquin, where was this crossing? I caught something in the video where you were telling hikers on the other side where to cross at, which direction and how far from the downed bridge? And was it a smooth/easy crossing from where you crossed?
The crossing was about a tenth or two tenths of a mile downstream from the bridge. It was fairly obvious where the calmer water was. Even so, the water was just above my knees (I’m 6’ tall) and moving briskly so you really had to focus. I wore my boots in order to have better treads. Trekking poles are helpful too.
Wow! Looks like a crazy hike. Beautiful scenery all around. Can you just do the hike to that Lamarck lake as a day hike?
Yes, I believe lots of people do day hikes up to the Lamarck Lakes and even Lamarck Col.
Thanks
A great day hike is Onion Valley to Kearsarge pass and a scramble up to top of mt Gould. Used to spend a lot of weekends in Owen’s Valley when I lived in Los Angeles. My backyard so to speak
Loved that you made this video and thanks for no background music. It so much better to hear the natural sound around you !
I agree with the no sound thing. I’ve tried music but I like the natural sound approach. So many good things to hear! I will be doing natural sound on my next Sierra backpacking video which I hope to have done by Sunday. Stay tuned!
Where are you going?
Doing a loop around the Paiute Pass area. Darwin Canyon. Lamarck Col. There is a bridge that is out that we have to figure out how to deal with.
I have been looking for a place around Reno but away from the riff raff to go Mountain Biking! Being that I would be alone it really seems ideal for me a middle aged woman, peaceful, safe and close to home!! 🙂 And much history to see, thank you for posting this!.
You bet! Have fun out there.
I did this exact hike in 2015 and loved every second of it. One of the most beautiful hikes anywhere in the world.
Agreed!
I am looking at doing this. Would you give an overview of # of miles hiked each day including general camping locations? What trailhead did you use for applying for your permit?
We left from Twin Lakes. First night was at Crown Lake. Second night was along Matterhorn Creek (wherever we found a spot). Third night was at Benson Lake (highly recommend). Last night was at Peeler Lake. We didn’t do huge miles (10-12 each day) but at times they were tough miles. Day two was tough as we climbed two passes (mule and burro) but it wasn’t crazy. The hardest day was going over Benson Pass and doing the descent to Benson Lake.
What do you use to heat your water for the potatoes & ramen? Ie: boil water in a pot? Or…? ⛺️ Have fun by the way.
I use a Jetboil. Boil the water. Pour in the potatoes. Wait a minute. Eat. Super easy cleanup. Could also boil the water and rehydrate in a Ziploc freezer bag.
@@sierranevadahikes8538 cool thanks 🥾🥾
I love your channel, your videos and the trails. We are truly blessed to be able to hike the Sierras
I enjoy sharing the amazing hiking and backpacking we have so close to us. Glad you enjoy! More good stuff to come.
Love all the beauty, love to see your smiles, love the waterfall and all the nature and the music! Thanks for sharing!
Hey, I've been there! (With you and a handful of T443). The snow is an awesome addition, but I really liked the evening hike that we did. Those views are always amazing, but the sunset is incredible. Great video and take care out there!
That was a great sunset hike. Might need to do it again soon!
What a peaceful video! Looks like you had a great day.
The only other time I came through this area was when we hiked the Tahoe Rim Trail. The first part of the hike is difficult, but once you get to where the bench is you are rewarded with some of the best views on the trail.
Great video!
Thank you!
