This is an insightful and great presentation from the panelists!👏 CNG powered vehicles have been existing in Europe since early 80's. The major problem associated with this form of fuel is the infrastructural cost of building fueling stations to support the endeavor, hence, governments' reluctance to invest in it. Another obstacle to this cleaner gas is the fossil fuel drillers/distributors who are pushing buttons in the background to make it less popular in order to protect their own profit margins. So it is not by magic that in the USA there are about 175000 CNG vehicles but only 1500 fueling stations. The majority of those CNG stations are owned and operated by private companies that own a transportation fleet of vehicles and are trying to save on gasoline cost. It is due to the CNG accessibility and availability that the car manufacturers came up with the next generation of hybrid engine (gasoline & electric combo) vehicles with great fanfare. A good example of a hybrid vehicle is the Toyota Prius that switches its source of energy between a large traction battery pack (not to be confused with a regular 12volts car battery) and gasoline thereby reducing gasoline consumption. The problem I have experienced with the hybrid technology is that after about five years of use, as with any rechargeable battery, the battery system would not hold charge as it used to. When the battery starts to lose strength, the engine would rely more on the gasoline for power, hence, we are back to square one. A reconditioned hybrid battery costs $2k-3k. The latest generation are electric vehicles. Tesla and the other EV manufacturers are very well aware of the challenges facing this technology and are working in earnest to combat it. In the United States we now have charging stations installed in parking garages and even sharing space inside gasoline fueling stations. Furthermore, it is now a common practice to install a charging station inside your home where you just pull out an extension cord and start charging your car. The government is also incentivizing EV buyers in form of cost rebate programs. Yes, I understand that CNG is a cleaner burning gas and cheaper compared with regular gasoline but it has no ZERO carbon emission. The Americans have never really embraced the CNG fuel and I believe this technology is destined to lose its little popularity with the advent of full electric engines that has ZERO carbon emission. BTW, let me burst your bubble. Did you know that natural gas burning cooking stoves are now being phased out in homes in the US?

The market and the need for CNG is overwhelmingly present in Nigeria. With careful advocacy, thorough and clear set stages of procedure, one stage at a time, it can be possible and sure will be very rewarding.
