The Dyrt camping app | Dyrt Pro Review and Tutorial
This looks like a lot of fun! What do you use to keep warm at night ?
Usually just a sleeping bag, but I have a diesel heater for really cold nights.
In just received my bulletpoint mount for 2018 GMC sierra. Look forward to installing it. Thank you for the video.
Thanks for watching! I love my bulletpoint mounts, use them everyday.
I got my APEX BADLAND 12OOO WINCH during the 12 days of Christmas sales. It was 40% off. I also like that it is wireless. P.S. I really enjoy your videos.
40% is an awesome deal! I love mine so far, pulled a small tree stump out of the ground the other day with it. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment!
Why do your truck lights twinkle?
Its the frame rate of the camera and the frequency of the lights not matching up. I really should turn them off when off-roading.
Awesome video.🫡 This reminds me of my time in Arkansas exploring the Ouachita Mountains in my Jeep before I moved to Missouri. Terrain was different, but similar experiences.👍 Funny steak experience, I was once not well prepared, and ended up using a propane torch to cook a steak.🤣🤣🤣 I look back at my service in the Coast Guard very much the same way as you. It afforded me opportunities I would have never had, and was very much a large part of who I am, and the successes I have had.🫡
Glad you liked the video! Funny you mention Arkansas, currently driving back from the ozarks. Really appreciate the comment. Can’t image cooking a steak with a torch haha
@@GearUpAndGo23 Luckily I had one of those wire clamshell baskets for grilling fish, I put the steak in it and torched it.🤣
Hey whatever gets the job done!
Great video and it is good to see places less traveled. I’m not much for watching people cook meals but I liked the options of cooking that was tried.
Thanks for watching! I usually just cook steaks but I want to start branching out a little.
Can you run this off of a 20Volt Battery?
Well it’s a 12 volt heater so if you want to run it off a 20 v battery you need to use a step down converter.
I Think your power cord connector mod is a fantastic idea. I think there is the possibility of damage to the heater if a plug is disconnected by accident while the unit is running. Can you tell me what you used to firm up the power cord behind that new plate? Thank you for showing us all some well thought out upgrades!
Yea I unfortunately unplugged it on accident last winter. Its still working good so far. I wish I would have provided more detail about it in the video but I plan on doing another upgrade video after this winter. As far as the cord, I soldered the wires together and the tolerance between the cord and the plate keeps it in place. Looking to refine this setup but its working for now. Thanks for watching!!
Dropped a sub, had to support ya. I was out there to LBJ couple of weeks ago. Great spot to camp and chill.
Thanks! Yea its one of my favorite local spots for chill camping. The weather is perfect for it now too.
Thanks for posting
Thanks for watching. Perfect weather right now to camp at LBJ!
Just bought mine
I use mine everyday!
Cool video, I also live in DFW and have been wanting to go camping here. Hope you reach your 500 subscriber goal!
Thanks! Its a great spot and not too far from DFW. The subs are coming slow but steady.
It’s not cliche, sweetheart. The Lord created Adam and Eve in a garden. We can appreciate our creator God in His creation. I love you!! Mom
Thanks Mom!
Hey Bubbs, fix your windshield, it’s distracting. Love you, Mom
I think it adds character lol
I have the same heater, and like it. This video was very helpful, thanks! Question: have you seen anyone modify the heater so they can add ducting to the intake side? In my application, that would be useful. Thanks!
I have seen some videos where people do that. they usually get a 3D printed adapter to mount on the intake and then connect ducting to it.
@@GearUpAndGo23 Thanks!
It really needs screws not rivets to gain better access. Nice video. Thanks from Wales 🏴
Thanks for watching! I agree, trying to gain access to the components is difficult. Especially if you have fuel in the tank.
Your buddy Dan is a stud.
He’s a real one!
These are getting better and better! I’ve been to Palo Duro a few times but this looks like way more fun!
Thanks! Glad the quality is improving. Palo Duro is a great place to explore!
I went dispersed camping there last month. Great area! Not a single soul was there besides me on the trails 😄
Thats awesome! Nobody was camping there when I went too, but thats probably because it was the end of may and crazy humid and hot lol
@@GearUpAndGo23Man it was humid and hot when I was there too, even in September! What forest road did you use to find the site in the video?
It was on forest road 908
I'm thinking of camping out there later this week with my son to catch some of the texas snow in the forecast. Can y'all direct me to some good digital maps of the area to include Forrest roads? I appreciate it.
www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd1054601.pdf this link should provide a good map. Also my newsletter covered this trip if you would like specific info about stuff you saw in the video. gearupandgo.beehiiv.com/subscribe. Hope y'all have a great time!
How do we add a stop in the middle on an existing route we have rested
On the desktop version if you click in the top right corner circle that says pro beneath it there should be an option for route planner. Go to route planner and find the existing trip and click edit trip. Then click on search campgrounds and search for campgrounds in a location that you want and it will add it for you. In the mobile app click on the circle in the bottom right with the pro logo and scroll down to my trips and click on the trip. Click on the magnifying glass with a plus sign in the top left corner and search for the campground in the desired location and then click add to trip. Hope this helps.
@@GearUpAndGo23 I see “my Dyrt alerts, my lists, route planner account, support, sign out
Yea click on route planner and it will go to your trips you’ve created. Hover over the trip and click edit trip. Click on search campgrounds and look in the area you want to camp and find a campsite and click on it and then click add to trip.
You can't use a plastic heat pipe. It will melt and catch on fire.
Yea I use aluminum ducting now
Sometimes the best part about a camping trip is the story about the time that your diesel heater went out in the middle of the night leaving you freezing in your tent. This diesel heater will definitely set you up for a good story to tell someday.
I agree, the best stories are stories of struggle haha. Glad you made it through the night, these knockoff heaters aren't the best that's for sure.
You can just pull up anywhere and camp without a pass or anything?
Yes there is free dispersed camping at Davy Crockett that you can camp at without a pass. During the hunting season you have to stay in designated hunting camps, but when its not hunting season you can pull off the trail and camp anywhere. Keep in mind though it has to be a legal trail to drive on and you can only drive a little ways off the trail, you cant go trailblazing through the forest. I called the rangers office again to confirm this. You can grab a motor vehicle use map(MVUM) and a hunting campsite map from the ranger office. Thanks for watching!
Did you have any luck with the overheating? I got mine last year and right out of the box it would overheat on even just level 3. I’m curious if upgrading to the 4” ducting helped with the overheating.
One night camping last winter it overheated and I switched to the 4 inch ducting and it fixed the issue. However, I did get a few comments on my other heater video saying nothing would fix the overheating issue on their heaters, so I think its a good precaution at minimum.
Great video Good to see some real content for north Texas
I really appreciate the comment! thanks for watching!
I go to Davey Crockett often for a short getaway. I am in East Texas so if you ever make it out this way I know of a couple dispersed spots. Always looking for good company on camping trips.
Sounds good! I’m sure I’ll be down there again sometime. Thanks for watching!
What’s up man, I need a spot
what's up! there are some nice spots at Neches bluff. Here's the coordinates: 31.568378355414282, -95.16369482222083
There was a body found in the lake at the 3 minute mark over 30 years ago, if I remember correctly he had been shot in the back. At least I think that’s the lake, I haven’t been there in over 15 years. There is a lot of area to explore. Some of the higher areas have steep rocky drops and a few very small springs.
Man that's crazy! Thanks for the tip on the high rocky areas, i'll have to check em out.
👍🤝
💯
I grew up nearby, and we still have a family farm there. My GG-Grandparents arrived in the area around 1845-1850. I've camped in the forest before, usually near Ratcliff Lake, but I avoid doing so in the hot weather. Enjoyed your video! Good luck! (also lived in Ft. Worth after college...)
wow you have a lot of history there! I like the east texas forests, one of my favorite places to camp.
Show us your
Sorry Dan, no grilled cheeses on this trip.
Looking good!!
Thanks!
You’re on my family’s private property on K Trail and we don’t appreciate you being there taking videos. Please stop.
I would never trespass on someone's property. According to my navigation data we were on county roads and Forest service roads the entire time. Can you tell me where in the video we were near your property so we won't film there in the future?
Love Merus and the Angel Fire/Red River area! We're also in DFW(mid cities) Cool trip
It was a great trip! Looking forward to exploring more of it. How often do you make it out there?
@@GearUpAndGo23 we typically go once in winter and once in summer. I have two little ones and Red River is an easy town with kids.
Sounds awesome, I bet its a blast in the winter.
Just 50 miles from DFW. Camping, fishing/hunting, horseback riding, hiking and it is so sparsely used. I dont get it.
It's an awesome place! I think most people just aren't aware of it.
Pap was a Marine and served in Vietnam. Grandma C was in the Army and served in Desert Storm. Grandpa G was in the Navy. You come from military lineage. Not to mention your service . Thank you son!
that's right!
Thanks so much - It convinced us to get The Dyrt!
It’s a good app! I still use it.
Nice video ! I used to hunt over on the LBJ GRASSLANDS few years ago ! Shot my 1st buck (basket buck) over there on area 51, 80 something acre lit'l patch. Alan in 🇨🇱
Thanks Alan? Is there good hunting at the grasslands?
I’ve been there with my Powerwagon. I understand the size problem. Thanks for showing me I didn’t miss anything since I didn’t go left lol.
No problem! Glad I can help lol Have you been there recently? I think it might be closed now.
That camp spot is about a mile from my house drive thru there all the time
Nice, have you ever camped there just for fun?
@GearUpAndGo23 no I haven't camped there yet just drive thru for scenic and hiked the trails
@@zachcostanza1990 That's an awesome place to have so close to home!
I also like the delta2..i use it primarily to power my microwave in my van,and ive used it up to 3 days without recharging..recently i purchased the addon battery which i hope will power my fridge for the same time period..if this does work,i can use my river2 for powering my tv and tablet
Oh yea your setup with the extra battery will power a fridge for quite awhile!
I have the EcoFlow delta 2, I’ve been debating if to go with the extra battery or just get another delta 2 since I think will give me more options two power my items separately, and expand with an extra battery in the future.
The limited functionality of the extra battery is a let down, but i'm not sure if you can hook up two delta 2's together to expand the power capacity so you would essentially have two stand alone units at that point. If space isn't an issue the delta 2 max might be a good option to consider as well. It has 2kwh of power alone and is expandable to 6kwh. Although it has the same amount of outputs as the delta 2. If want more outputs to power items with one unit you would have get one of the bigger power stations like the delta pro or something.
I live in Decatur cool video. I’ve camped out there in the same place stand of pines. across the road from where you were
I was surprised to find those pines out there. Really cool spot!
Cool, very cool!
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching.
Ironman 4x4 makes some good air compressors and can usually be found on sale.
Thanks I’ll check em out
Nice video. I also live in the DFW area and I want to take my wife up to the Oklahoma side and the Arkansas side. For a compressor, I run an ARB twin compressor under my hood. It might be a little pricey but it is definitely worth it.
Thanks! I’ll take a look at the ARB. I’ve been thinking about the morflate too.
Be careful, I have been shot at out there, and there are some grumpy land owners, that will start shooting as well to scare you off. Years back a guy got mad about someone hunting in his spot, and went and shot up the other guys truck.
Dang! I’ll keep that in mind.
Love you showed this area, have spent many many a night camping out at LBJ! Subbed to ya and looking forward to more TX content
Thanks for the encouragement! More trips planned for sure.
LBJ Grasslands has some nice dispersed camping. I hunt the grasslands quite frequently and camp there
Nice! It’s a great little getaway close to home.
Loving the content trying to get into overlanding myself. Running an 2004 tahoe z71.
Thanks for watching! Your Tahoe will take you to most places. Get out there as soon as you can!
I appreciate it man! yea trying to find more places out and around the DFW area so your videos are great for me. Keep it up!
More trips planned. It’s just so hot!
Thanks for the video. We are out of Central Texas and it never occurred to us to go here. This is a perfect place to introduce new folks to overlanding without scaring them away with crazy off-roading trips.
Thanks for watching! I agree, also a good place to test a new setup at.
@@GearUpAndGo23 Ohh, now I new new stuff to test. 😆
Never a bad time for new gear!
