    Got an engage jacket new for 175 in a certain shopping website! I can justify that much so all I would say is if you won’t pay it full price there are other ways to get a much fairer deal! I used to wonder whether shopping in these platforms was a good thing ! Now, I can’t think of anything better than paying another Joe instead of a company that make more than enough!

    These are great ideas, thanks! I especially agree with the no eating before running (in the morning) idea, as I recently found I was able to race the Irish Runner 10 miler comfortably without food - I was 12-hour fasted and during the run all I had was some water in 2 of the 4 water stations. Surprisingly when I do have food before or during runs I'm miserable and hungry in the second half, probably due to sugar crashes. It's only above 90 minutes running that we need to replenish our glycogen reserves apparently.

    I'm a weightlifting guy, and never enjoyed or was good at running, but zone training has massively changed my outlook on it. I used to just go out on a 5k and try to hold my target pace and then inevitably get annoyed when I'd drop off pace and struggle towards the end. Mentally it's really disheartening too. Recently I got a HR monitor and went out for an hour, trying to keep my HR pinned at 145 bpm and was surprised at how slow it felt, but the nice thing about it is that, while I'd usually kill myself on the uphills to hold pace, I could just keep an eye on my HR and ease off as it started to climb. It made me realise that I've effectively been running for 25 minutes continuously at close to, and sometimes in, zone 5 lol (which I now realise was insanity - no wonder I wasn't enjoying my runs). I can see now how people can genuinely enjoy running.

    hey can i ask how to deal with shin splints? I've had to ditch running anywhere near as frequently as I want and bought a cheapy rowing machine just to maintain cardio regularly. I think it's because of years of sedentary (software dev so permanently hunched over a desk for the last 5+ years). 10 years ago I was in great shape, playing rugby for school and club, tennis a bit as well. But since then I went from approx 75kg to literally 100kg so i reckon my legs just couldn't hack it when i started running a couple months ago. Any advice appreciated, it's real painful to push through at the moment. EDIT i've lost 10kg since hitting 100kg with diet change and regular cardio, so im still able to do enough exercise, but i want to now push much more with running but im held back by the shin splint pain. I could never do a 10miler with this for example, but I did the great south run for 3 years running about 10 years ago and want to get back to that level and beyond it. Thanks.

    • @harryruns1
      @harryruns1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@chris94kennedy hey Chris First of all congrats on losing 10kg, that’s amazing! Shin splints is a tricky one. If it’s caused by running then you want to build up your mileage really steadily. Your body will get used to higher training volumes it just takes time and rushing yourself into big mileage weeks could make things worse. I would definitely recommend cross training and resistance training to. Cardio that doesn’t set off your shin splints such as a stationary bike or cross trainer, although it’s not what you want to do initially, will allow you to increase your running volume over time without overusing and injuring your shins. Consistency is always better than upping your training by too much too quickly, small increases are the way to go. Best of luck 💪

    I want to like Thrudark more than I do. The military aspect is kind of cool (which they do push, just observing not judging), but the big draw would be a UK brand that is top level. I don’t like the cut of their trousers (too skinny at the ankles and still, bizarrely have Velcro adjusters to cinch them down) and I’ve found their sizing to not be the most consistent. I find their advertising / marketing too pushy and edgy, lovely looking website but often difficult to see details of garments. Very high pricing. Some odd seam placement on a Centurion jacket (I am constantly aware/conscious of them when wearing under a hard shell). That said, some of their items I love in terms of function. Like I said, I want to like them more…..but it’s not easy. Also, I wish they made a hard shell that had a stowable hood. But then I wish that about other companies too.

    @marcmanitou4182 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have some of their stuff (out of curiosity) and find it mediocre in quality and design. Thread ends hanging loose, sloppy run of the mill design. Made in Portugal does not mean a thing when likes of Arc'teryx can source perfect quality from China and Bangladesh. It is the attitude, quality control and the machinery used that matters, not the country where it is done in. They are riding reasonably successfully on the image alone, I have to admit that. Consistent advertising speaking loudly to wannabe Black Operators (like me, but I also have ranger background). One example of the design problem: Cargo pockets in their shorts: Top brand Arc'teryx can design thigh pockets which are almost unnoticeable when empty (Combat Pants gen2 as an example), and still function as dump pockets when needed. 5.11 Tactical has similar cargo pockets in their Stryker pants and shorts, flat sewn front AND several inner compartments for phone etc, stuff is not just sloshing around there. What has ThruDark designed: just a big ugly box sewn into the pant thigh, flapping around empty or full. They need to rethink several things to stay in the run. They are not a serious contender yet.
