The Medusa Project Thetford
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 25 มี.ค. 2023
The Medusa Project Thetford just looks at ways of getting around Thetford on wheels.
Originally, I said:
The Thetford Ring Road of Death was the group name I used (it is intended to be a humorous moniker) for all the horrendous A roads that encircle Thetford.
The A11, A134, A1066 and A1075.
Together they form the shape of a medusa.
The Medusa Project explores any possible routes from Thetford into the forest, or anywhere else for that matter, that are possible on a mobility scooter.
We will also look at getting around the town on boot scooters, pavement scooters and powered chairs.
Now, we've done that and we are expanding the idea.
Have a look at the videos.

Adrian's Antics ep1. Arlington Way in Thetford and the Shadwell Nunnery Stud on a mobility scooter
Adrian explores Arlington Way on his road mobility scooter and rescues the Bambi cam from near the nunnery lakes reserve.
We put the trail camera there when we went to the reserve a few days before.
He then returns by driving through the Shadwell Nunnery Stud to the A1088 which is the route you can take by car if you want to drive to the lakes.
You can pick up the keys from the BTO and then pop your boot scooter or wheel chair in the back and have a lovely day out.
It is well worth visiting this area because of the stunning scenery.

Thetford from the Air. Beautiful views of the Nunnery Lakes Reserve from my drone

This was filmed on an outing to the Nunnery Lakes Reserve on my mobility scooter. We went from Nun's Bridges at in the end of Spring Walk in Thetford, via the BTO (The British Trust for Ornithology) where we picked up the keys, and then along Nunnery Place to the reserve. It is a lovely trip and easy for anyone to do. If you have a car and a boot scooter, you can just pick up the keys from the ...
Rolling Along the River ep3. Nuns' Bridges to Nunnery Lakes Reserve via the BTO
มุมมอง 9521 วันที่ผ่านมา
Nuns' Bridges in Thetford, also known as the Three Bridges, is a beautiful area by the Little River Ouse and a great starting point for our trip to the Nunnery Lakes Reserve. The BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) is nearby and they will give you the keys to the Nunnery Lakes Reserve if you ask nicely and are feeling adventurous. If you have a boot scooter you can then drive there via the A108...
Tiglet's Shorts. The Ancient House Museum Thetford
มุมมอง 163หลายเดือนก่อน
A quick tour of this great little museum from the point of view of a mobility scooter, wheelchair or stick user. In other words, however disabled you are, you can visit this Thetford gem in one way or another. It's a bit awkward to get around it, yes, but at the end of the day, it is still just a house. The clues in the name. The Ancient House Museum. It's half a millennium old, for heaven's sa...
Tigga's Trousers. Retail Therapy shopping in Thetford on a mobility scooter (Lidl, Sainsbury, etc.)
มุมมอง 32หลายเดือนก่อน
I mentioned a few retail names in the title. But the truth is that Thetford, like most towns, has most of them. But, unless you know how to navigate your mobility scooter, you might not be able to go shopping. This is a shortcut from Canterbury Way to Sainsbury. It won't work for everyone, but it is a fun shortcut for some. Pavement mobility scooters and road scooters will be very happy with th...
Dereham from the Air. A quick tour of the football pitch at Aldiss Park (Dereham Town FC)
มุมมอง 58หลายเดือนก่อน
I went to see a football match at Dereham Town's football club, Aldiss park, a month or so ago (7th of Sep, 2024). I filmed it from the air using my drone while my friend Adrian drove around it on his boot mobility scooter, waffling all the way. It was a great day out. It's well worth a visit and it is very mobility scooter friendly. There is a bit of gravel in the car park that is a bit tricky...

Tiglet's Shorts. Mama D's and the Riversdale Centre in Thetford (a hidden café and secret garden)
มุมมอง 33หลายเดือนก่อน
This is an unexpected place that is well hidden. It is right near the river Thet, in Thetford surprise, surprise, just off Tanner Street. It has a back gate that leads directly to the river and has canoes available in summer, so you can paddle down the river. It is very mobility scooter friendly. You cam drive a road legal, 8mph scooter or 4mph pavement scooter straight through the building wit...
Tiglet's Shorts. Going from Thetford to Dereham for a Footie Match on Boot Scooters
มุมมอง 44หลายเดือนก่อน
Travelling by train and then bus to Aldiss Park, Dereham's home ground, to watch a football match. It was against Woodbridge, and it was a very enjoyable day out. We were both on boot scooters. We took the train from Thetford to Norwich, and then the number 8 bus from Norwich to Dereham. The only slight bumpy bit was the gravelly car park at the football ground but we managed to get by that by ...
Tiglet's Shorts. A quick spin around the block via Thetford Library and Roys
มุมมอง 412 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is just a quick video of me testing a new camera mount on my boot mobility scooter, Tiglet. I hummed and harred about releasing this video but as it showed you how easy it is to take your scooter into the library to pick up a book, and I had a chat with my friend Carl in Roys about VHS videos, I thought it was worthwhile.
Tiglet's Shorts. Bridge Street to Bridges Walk in Thetford via the Continental Market in King St.
มุมมอง 362 หลายเดือนก่อน
A quick detour around the Thetford Continental Street Market whilst I'm rolling along the Little River Ouse on my mobility scooter. This detour is easy on any scooter or wheelchair, but it can get a bit crowded. The next street market is a festive one and the end of November, I believe.
Tiglet's Shorts. Thetford station to the Queen of Iceni in Norwich by train on mobility scooters

My friend, Adrian, and I/me wanted to show you how easy it is to get a small mobility scooter on and off a train. So we had a day out on our little boot scooters, Tiglet and Purple Peril. They are both autofold 4mph scooters. We got the train from Thetford and went to meet another friend at the Queen of Iceni Wetherspoon pub in Norwich by the Riverside. It's so easy. There's also loads of other...

4:30 that bridge was quite possibly part of the thetford to bury st edmunds railway line.
Hi Deejay, Thanks for that comment. Me and Adrian hadn't thought about that, but we think you are right . We are now looking for old maps from the fifties so we can see exactly where the railway line 🛤 used to run. Cheers, Bob
@@TheMedusaProjectThetford i use maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=15.5&lat=52.40478&lon=0.76267&layers=6&right=ESRIWorld for a side by side map, its not precise but would give you a rough idea.
@TheMedusaProjectThetford If you turn immediately left once into Arlington way, you can gain access to the existing overgrown bridge. It's hard to see from the road due to the growth, however you drove past it several times in your video. The old railway station was situated on the left of the roundabout also, in the area what now looks like abandoned waste ground. The line ran down Hurth way, over a bridge which is now the Norwich road and up what is now the Mundford road to Swaffham and King's Lynn. Loving the videos - from a fellow Thetfordian 😀
Hi Chris, Thanks ever so much for the info. I will certainly explore further the next time I go there. I will probably be next year by then. I am glad you like the videos. I'm having immense fun making them. After I filmed the Ancient House museum a few weeks ago, I was asked to speak at an event put on by the Thetford and Punjab festival organisers at the Thomas Paine hotel tomorrow evening at 6:30. It's something called stand-up to diversity. Not something I would normally shout about, but the opportunity to waffle about scootering around Thetford and rant about access to the forest is too good to refuse. It's only a three minute rant. Come and say hello if you can. You can book if you follow this link. It's free and has food! su4d-thetford.eventbrite.co.uk/ Anyway, I hope to meet you sometime. Cheers, Bob
Hi Deejay, I have only just seen your reply with the fascinating side by side map. Thank you so much for sending it to me. Cheers, Bob
Excellent work as usual Bob!
50 seconds in and there's a giant frog pretending to be a bush 😀
Hi Liam, What do you mean about the giant peach 🍑? Cheers, Bob
Aka the frog?
Stunning vistas Bob! Thanks
I am glad you like it. It was stunning just being there with friends.
@ nothing better than being with pals! I’m on a binge catch up of your channel,It’s cheering me up no end
I had great fun making them and it's nice to hear you are enjoying them too. I crashed my big scooter on a hidden tree stump in the forest, so he is away having a nose job. I have now bought another scooter called Colt, so you can expect a new series of his adventures soon. I am keeping Tigga so his adventures aren't over yet.
@ I am enjoying them immensely.Sorry to hear about the nose job,I did similar on my very first scooter,I hit a stump and took both left hand guards off! Looking forward to seeing Colt!
Thanks Bob,the hidden nooks are great to see 👍
issuu.com/bubblyhub/docs/reflections_of_thetford_issue_5 Glad you like it. If you follow the link above to the Reflections of Thetford magazine, you can see I have written an article about it and also a story about the cemetery too.
👍nice one Bob
Hi KG, I wasn't sure about publishing it, but as it had a quick library visit, I thought it would be a bit of fun. Cheers, Bob
@@TheMedusaProjectThetford it was a bit of fun Bob,everyday life is always interesting
It amused me when i heard the guy on the german food stall talk with a thick london accent. I agree with you that St Cuthberts church bells sound awful.
Hi Deejay, I didn't speak to the man, so I missed that bit! Did you buy any pomme frite? The bells were deafening, but I do believe it was a wedding, so that's something to shout about. Cheers, Bob
Nice one Bob,Norwich is a beautiful station
Nice one Bob and Adrian!
Hi Liam, I am glad you liked it. I hope you’re ok, I haven't seen you about lately. Me and Adrian are going to Dereham Town FC on Saturday to see Keith. We hope to film that too. Cheers, Bob
Blimey, that’s certainly a secret parade of shops Bob! It was great seeing you out and about with a pal. Thanks 👍
That was great Bob! Thanks for the extra effort. The chapel and cemetery are very well looked after.I’m looking forward to your next upload.by the by I follow you on both my channels.
Hi KG, Thank you. I'm glad you suggested visiting the cemetery. I had been going past it for years and never thought to visit. It's now one of my favourite shortcuts. Cheers, Bob
That was enjoyable thanks Bob.These modern Drones are quite amazing in what they can do.
Hi KG, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Just so you know, I have done some filming around the London Road Cemetery, and I hope to release it next week all being well. Also, there is a new what's on in Thetford website that has an associated magazine called Reflections of Thetford. I have written articles about mobility scootering for them in the last 2 issues. My third editorial will be published on the 1st of Aug. You can have a read here. thetfordbubblyhub.com/ It's free, and I think it's a good read (not just my waffling articles). They print a limited number of hard copies, but it is mostly read online. Cheers, Bob
@@TheMedusaProjectThetford Hi Bob, its Kieran (KG) here.

@@TheMedusaProjectThetford fair enough Bob! Any chance of you doing a vid of the Commonwealth War Graves?
Hi KG, Do you mean the war graves at Thetford cemetery in London road? If that is where you mean, I will see what I can do. I go past the entrance quite often, but I have never thought to explore it.
i did wonder if that was you i spotted at the weekened out of the window at sainsburys
Hi Deejay, I was about outside sainsbury on Friday when I filmed the trip to Elveden but I was shopping there on Monday. At about midday ish on both occasions. If ever you see me please come and say 'hello'.
That was interesting. You did this trip on my 66th birthday.I spent that day out on my scooter Nordy and just managed to get home on the last bit of battery!
Hi, Happy birthday 🎂. I am glad you like my commentary - I think I waffle too much. What sort of scooter is Nordy, and where did you go and how far? Sorry for the interrogation!
@@TheMedusaProjectThetford thanks! No you don’t waffle,it’s interesting hearing about what you are seeing.Mines called a Nordic Luxury Cruiser. It’s really a brand and not the manufacturer. It’s got a 800w motor and goes over most terrain.I retired to New Zealand to be closer too my daughter.Formerly I lived and worked all around the UK.I’ve had strokes amongst other things so being mobile gives me freedom to roam.I also have a Pride 140xl as a backup. Thanks again Bob 👍
Hi (I'm sorry, I don't know your name), I had no idea you were in New Zealand - which island? I am jealous. I spent a wonderful year in 1980 (when I was 25) working and travelling all over the North Island. I never made it to the South Island because I was having too much fun.

Hi, be good to see the bike when you're cycling.
Hi Fred, Unfortunately, Peter's a bit poorly at the moment, but we hope to be able to expand Peter's adventures soon with some better camera angles and views. The one you kindly commented on was our first test. I'm Bob, and I normally try and follow him on my mobility scooter. So I may be able to get some other camera shots.
when i was a child there used to be a crossing at the station. theres something about your channels thats quite an enjoyable watch. I wouldn't recommend people on Boot scooters (love that term btw) go the other way even though it is quite a bit shorter as station lane is very rough and muddy.
Hi DeeJay, Not sure of your name? I'm Bob Blogg. Thank you for your kind comments. It's nice to have some feedback - but it is rare as you probably know. I had a quick look at your channel and I thought it has got some good films of Thetford. I hope you are still getting about and filming the odd event. I subscribed in anticipation. I'm just having great fun running around and filming everything I can. I don't know if you have seen the Reflections of Thetford magazine (It's like an on-line 'About Thetford' mag and published by the bubblyhub) but there is an article in issue 2 (p75) about what I am trying to do. issuu.com/bubblyhub/docs/reflections_issue_02 Please have a quick read and let me know if you have any suggestions about what I am doing. My contact details are in the article. Meanwhile, if ever you see me about in town on a mobility scooter, please say hello. Cheers, Bob
Fir road is a bit of a confusing road, it starts off at Fir road continues up to the phone box (3:24) and then becomes Elm road which then links back to that junction you saw and then some bright spark decided add on 5 houses at that start of it ( yellowy houses at 4:35) and call them Fir walk.
Hi DeeJay, I was just reviewing my comments and realised I hadn't replied to this. Thank you very much for the details. It's a part of town that I hardly know on the road names are very confusing. Your comment will help clarify my confused ramblings. Cheers, Bob
Hey Bob Liam here. Keep up the great work!
Hi Liam, Thanks for your positive words. I'm not used to getting comments so I only just spotted this as I was up loading another video. Maybe we can catch up soon after the next bubbly hub mag is published. Pop into the Albion on a Saturday if ever you can. Cheers, Bob
This is my first video and, like its name “the Thetford Ring Road of Death - Introduction”, it's a bit overlong - very overlong. (I'm still learning). But I hope it explains the idea.
