I just bought a bag of white tepary beans from Ramona Farms; I can't wait to try the White Tepary Beans with Short Ribs in addition to the Hummus (with Sonoran Sea Salt from Desert Provisions)! Thank you for making this great video, and for sharing your recipes!

So my plant just started to sprout out bean pods. It's the beginning of June and they started showing about a week or 2 ago. When do I pick them?

Before cooking tepary beans I recommend soaking them 4 days (rinse daily) to de-gas them or you will live to regret.

Where did you come up with 4 days? Seems like a lot

I cook my Tepary Beans in the slow-cooker on low for 10 hours; you don't have to soak them at all if you're cooking them in a crockpot.

Thank you so much for sharing how to prepare the saguaro fruits. I hope to teach others what I have learned from you to keep the traditions living on for many generations. With Gratitude, Kelly Athena

This is true. The further away we all get from the standard American Diet toward natural native whole plant foods the healthier we will all be. Many of the Whole Food Plant Based Diet Doctors document great healing with these foods. See Dr. John McDougall. Nathan Pritikin too, and many others. Very interesting reading. Heal yourself with food. It can be done.

I am amazed at how much there is to harvest, in the desert. Food that is very healthy for the body, and in my opinion, the mind. I have learned about the Mesquite tree, the Prickly pear, Saguaro fruit, and now Cholla buds, but I still have a lot to learn. You native people (if you don't mind me calling you that) have some much precious knowledge, and I am thankful you put it out there for someone like me. Thank you for the video.
