My longtime buddy Story Sloane III had this incredible 1925 film in his collection, and he allowed me to turn it into a Slice of History. The footage captures the spirit of the 1920s incredibly well. You'll find a magnificent time capsule of Galveston's seawall and a stretch of its beaches. It's my favorite HAM Slice, but don't tell the others.

There were plenty of Texas rivers and streams that were still traversed by ferry boats less than a century ago. After all, bridges are expensive, and they require solid engineering. Harris County, with its myriad of bayous, had several ferry operations. Today, only three publicly owned ferries remain entirely within Texas, but one is the Lynchburg Ferry in Harris County.

Mike Vance wrote and produced this Slice during his time as Program Director of the Heritage Society. It debuted at an exhibit there which he co-curated.
