Of course it depends on the ac, but we only modify the ac units that aren’t variable speed. The DOL type ac units such as the Houghton Belaire have too great a start up current for most high frequency type inverters. You may be able to get away with no soft start with low frequency type inverters but really depends on the ac and it’s start up load.

@magicmanspaz these batteries are some of the most impressive on the market. Both technically and compliance. The components selected compliment each other well. Lots of solar make everything happen with ease, As well as a battery that can charge and discharge at very high rates.

Important questions that often go unasked, yet is crucial for understanding value for money, are: What is included in the upgrade? What components are being used? What are the qualifications and experience of the installer, particularly with off-grid power systems? Does the work include 240v installation? Additionally, What after-sales support is offered and are they qualified to diagnose electrical issues? While cost is certainly a consideration, it should carry less weight in the final decision. If these other factors are overlooked, you may end up paying the price twice. You might expect to spend anywhere from $8k to $30 for an upgrade. As for the time it takes to complete, this also very much depends on many variable, such as on the complexity of the work, scope of work, type of caravan and any unforeseen challenges. I hope this is helps to make an informed decision when upgrading your off grid power system.

They're all the same across the range, the MY22 I purchased was that poorly built they had to legally replace it and then the replacement had all the 12v replaced at their expense. New Age are rubbish

Yes, this power setup is more than capable of running the caravan Ibis air conditioner, fridge, kettle, lights etc off the battery without any issues.

yes in a box outside , but if it catches on fire it dont matter where it is--- van will be dust--- agm batterys are 1000000000 times safer but a bit heavier

Thank you for your insights! You're correct that some Australian caravan brands utilise China to manufacture caravans which can be an acceptable practice when QA is at the forefront of the brand. In this example, the wiring was a mess, not labelled correctly, missing mechanical protection and more. Ideally, caravan manufactures should deem this level of workmanship unsatisfactory, especially for off-road caravans that must withstand significant vibration, increasing the risk of malfunction. It’s crucial to ensure the electrical installations are done properly, and tidying up the wiring to improve aesthetics is the least of our concerns. More importantly our primary focus is to provide a solution where the wiring and overall installation enhances safety, functionality and is in accordance to Australian Standards. At times the BMPro can be utilised where it is suitable, but in this build it was not fit for purpose.

@@outechoffgrid hey guys, just watched your updated vid on the DR18 fantastic btw. I've had issues with the wiring from day one, the bm tablet firstly wasn't responsive after resetting the whole thing it froze once again but with tanks empty it turned all the curcits(lights pumps) on and ran everything for a good 20mins untill i could get under the lounge again for another hard reset still plays up on occasions but dealers can't make it do it when in their workshop.the awning lights and offside lights were on one circuit(took 4months to get fixed van was 2weeks old) what you have done looks amazing and I'd love something like that after all it's a 120k plus van

Newage, just speculating as to what model but same layout as our 2022 Desert rose 18??. super keen to see the outcome. from factory mine was horrible too, still is on occasions

The equipment on the table is going to be installed. It’s for the new offgrid system which is what the van is in our workshop for. We have not removed any equipment except for the seat box covers. This wiring was hiding under the seat box cover.

@paulhardie9450 perfect. Then what about battery cable distance, routing, and ensuring you stay within the bending radius of the main cables? Would you still have enough space for the battery isolator, shunt and fuse for inverter without compromising the cabling?

While we install both Cowfish antennas and Starlink dishes based on customer preference, we often lean towards Starlink for its reliable high-speed internet, especially in remote areas. With a solid power setup, Starlink can provide consistent connectivity, making it ideal for streaming and video calls. If you're looking for reliable internet while on the road, Starlink is definitely worth considering!

Unfortunately with smaller dual cab utes like the triton you are definitely weight limited. However, you should be able to find a suitable smaller 18ft van with a great layout to suit you and your triton. We don’t recommend van manufacturers specifically as each one has their own pros and cons. Find a layout you like, then make sure the chassis construction is sound.

This van uses its inverter to run Starlink. Cheers.

Not necessarily. There are a lot of factors that need to be taken into consideration with battery voltage including cost, efficiency and what charging sources are available. There are definitely advantages to 48v in terms of output, cable sizing and efficiency. However there are also disadvantages also like the need to series the solar array and a limited number of 12/48v DCDC chargers. As technology improves 48v will be a much more likely option for all high powered electrical installations in caravans.

Which particular fuses are you looking for? If you have a BMPro there aren’t fuses as such. The BMPro uses mosfets.

The revised standard don’t exclude batteries under the bed. They exclude batteries inside the habitable space without a barrier or separation. This battery has a fully sealed enclosure which is also made with a fitting so a vent can be attached and taken outside of the habitable space. We have done a full video explaining the summary of the standard if you have a look through our channel.

A 4wd doesn’t need to comply to this standard. So you are able to use a standard battery if you wish 👍

Aftersales support is the best in the industry here in Australia. Victron doesn’t have an aftersales network as such. The distributors themselves look after the aftersales and unless the distributor has a national network then the end user is generally on their own.
