‘Blame’ is the first single of ‘Oud Zeer’ a split release by Utrecht based bands Throwing Bricks and Ontaard. It depicts a childhood memory of feeling blamed after harassment. And being doubted in your legitimacy as a victim.

The song starts off with a viola contributed by Johanna Kouwenhoven. As the song progresses, the melody gets overshadowed by harsh noise. This serves as a sonic metaphor for how trauma and painful memories from the past will find a way to ruin the present. ’Blame’ is the radiant centre of this release, and a true collaboration between both Throwing Bricks & Ontaard.
Oud Zeer is a Dutch term for memories you would rather get rid of, but simply can’t. Memories that are burned in the back of your mind forever, an old grudge you still have or an old wound that keeps opening up. Finding a way to deal with trauma and depression is a connecting theme in the works of Ontaard and Throwing Bricks. With both bands admitting that the past might shape you, but that it doesn’t have to break you.
