I’ve just finished the book ‘16 lives, Joseph Mary Plunkett’ he was such a lovely, beautiful, sensitive, intelligent, brave freedom fighter, I can’t help thinking about this young man as I’m working, relaxing etc, I was born in Dublin in 1955 my parents came to Manchester when I was2 years old, I’ve always had the Irish heart in me, I know the history of Ireland and my lovely granddaughter ( proper clever rebel) knows the truth, Ireland will be united one day sooner than later, dinosaurs are dying out, God bless Joseph and all the freedom fighters. ☘️🇮🇪🙏

It because rod Stewart is a Scottish national and a big Glasgow celtic foot ball supporter, this song is regularly sung at Glasgow Celtic foot ball matches and the story goes is that Rod took an interest in the song without understanding understanding the lyrics and meaning ,but then fell in love with the song .hope this helps
