      It's usually bundled with a 16-50 compact zoom lens. It depends what subjects you want to capture - if it's anything at distance I would suggest something else. The 18-140 or 50-250 would be more versatile for example. I only use Nikon, so can't help with the other brands I'm afraid. I hope you find something that suits your needs. 😊

    Whilst "what you like v what you don't like" is a good point Robert , as you sort of eluded to, perform your edits to how you remember the scene. The dehaze, texture and clarity worked really well in emphasising the godrays as well as the brush tool (That's new to me how you did that so I've learnt something!) Agree that masks too are an excellent way to edit. Shame about the blank film and hope you manage to fix the camera! All the best mate.

    Thank you for posting the raw images along with the finished product. Most of the raw pics looked a bit soft and rather dull, not until some post-processing was applied that the pics became sharp and snappy. Was that perhaps the result of camera/lens/teleconverter combination? New tech makes wonders, but to think that a few decades ago while you had some latitude with negative film, you had basically none with slide film to get sharp, vivid pictures.

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No, nothing to do with the lens or teleconverter. RAW always needs editing - it's not a finished file format, rather a dump of all the raw information that's ready to be manipulated. If you output in JPG, you're just letting your camera do the editing for you, so much better to work with the RAW and produce your own results. Thanks for watching. 😊

    Additional notes for users/buyers of D500 bodies: If or when you find and purchase a D500 body, check the firmware. If it is too old, it will need to be upgraded in multiple steps, not just one. Be sure you do, though, since the camera was designed to use XQD cards from the factory, but with the most recent firmware, you can now use CF Express Type B cards, which are faster and cheaper! Two of the bodies that I now own had firmware that was old enough (1.00 and 1.01) that I had to find archived copies of older firmware and then upgrade to 1.12 before they would go further. All of them now have 1.31 and can use both XQD and CF cards. Two of my CF cards are 512 GB and work flawlessly. As mentioned in this video, use back-button focus. Also, use the body MF/AF switch to engage or disengage auto-focus, set the CH speed to 10, and set the artificial limit for maximum number of continuous shutter releases to 200 (the max allowed). If you run across any YT videos who attempt to demean the value of the D500, don't listen to them. They're either ill-informed or completely uninformed. These are darlings!

    Call me old fashioned but when ya miss the decisive moment you miss it. That's part of the life of a street photographer. To then try to use AI to recreate it is no longer the art of photography. Not saying people shouldn't do it, it's just not how I want to roll. I will admit the new AI removed tool in ACR is amazing. I can get the same effect in various ways in Photoshop but this just makes the process easier. That seems different from putting things into an image with AI that weren't in the capture.

    • @Robert-Bishop

      I agree Phillip. I think this type of thing needs to be categorised as image creation through photography + digital generation. With that categorisation it's not "wrong" to use these methods, but if creating an image through photography alone it would be. Thanks for watching. 😊

    I honestly dont think its fair to say that the full frame equivalent to the 17-55 is the 24-70 2.8. Since 17-55 f2.8, is equivalent to 26-84 f4.3. The 24-85 f3.5-4.5 is way closer. Its build cheaper but it results in the same image and is significantly lighter and cheaper. So its not fair to say at all that apsc lenses are lighter or cheaper in general. The sigma 18-35 f1.8 is about equivalent to a 24-70 f2.8. And it costs the same as a 24-70 f2.8.

    Good video, Robert. I have two perspectives. For me, as a photographer, it takes away the joy of nailing a great image in camera. That said, how many folk out there will use this feature without declaring it. From a work related standpoint, as a designer, this is gold as we often have to work with images that aren't exactly what we are looking for.

    • @Robert-Bishop

    Tried the generative AI after watching your original video Robert and created an interesting composite based on an image taken at Bamburgh Beach - up another level here and whatever anyone's thoughts on AI it's as you say, here to stay! Yeah, the important thing for me, is the not deceiving people. Where I use AI on the images in my videos, I add a note saying so. I also wouldn't use it for images that need to be a true (as possible) representation of reality - documentary/record etc. Thanks for watching Andrew. 😊

    It crazy what can be done with AI. Wonder what our younger selves would of thought if we could go back in time and say what photoshop has become.

      I remember having my mind blown by the magnetic lasso tool! I can't imagine what I would have made of generative AI! Haha. Thanks for watching mate. 😊

    A very interesting take on generative AI. Personally, I feel photography falls into two categories, recording what you see and creating art. I am in the first category so therefore not a big fan of AI. However what you’ve done here is recorded what you saw but not when you hit the shutter. For me this is an acceptable use of generative fill. Photography is so subjective. Thanks for a great video.

      I agree Alan - I don't think this is appropriate for journalism, documentary, record or anything that requires the most truthful representation possible, but for creating art it's amazing! My day job is graphic designer and these tools have completely changed the way I work. Many thanks for checking out the video. 😊

    please make the testing video soon, i have the minolta Hi-matic E from my father and i want to learn how to use it properly, i think its quite similar to yours also i have a question, do you think that using two 1.4v. batteries will work the same (i think they are even smaller batteries)

    • @Robert-Bishop
      @Robert-Bishop หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm theory the batteries should work mostly the same. I've read that you may need to overcompensate by 1 stop to get a similar exposure to using the original batteries. I'm in Germany next week, but I'm hoping to get the video done the week after, and it will go live the week after that. 😊

    Some pretty cool stuff!! Will be very interesting to see where it all leads to in a few years as AI capabilities seem to be growing exponentially.

      Yeah, it's moving along at an incredible pace Bruce. I'm not worried about it replacing photography though - I think it will just sit alongside it (and cross over with it in many ways) as an alternative method of image creation. Thanks for watching. 😊

    Great video Robert, as always very informative this looks like a good tool if you’re stuck with the image. 🐕👍

      Much appreciated John. Yeah, I think I'd only use it in 'emergencies' but could really save certain images. Thanks for checking it out, as always. 🙂

    I have been using a D500 + Sigma 150-600 Contemporary combination for the last 3 years. Given the DX crop factor they make a fantastic pairing for wildlife photography. They have helped me to capture many shots that I could not have easily achieved otherwise

    just a question , can you combine b&w and colour ?

    • @Robert-Bishop

      You can, yes. You just have to go into the menu and change the picture control in-between shots. 😊

      I own it and it's a very versatile lens. The range is really useful, particularly for travel photography. It does lose a bit of sharpness at certain focal lengths and in the corners though.
