My son had a progressive disease his whole life. And third grade it was diagnosed and confirmed. It was a neurological disease that continued to eat away at his brain. Matthew was a man of faith. The last 10 years of his life I had a front row seat of being his primary caretaker.. God's used a extreme car accident for my good. I had to retire from UPS and live an ultra life but it has been my best years. God taught me so much and chiseled me through my sons heart. Matt was not a perfect person but I never seen so much strength in a human being. He lived for 32 years. It was far past what was expected. On his last years he had no voice he could not eat but through a tummy tube. He had to use it to catheter with extreme problems. He even had internal Medicine pump for pain. His body was distorted and twisted. His eyes were failing. Even with all that is faith pierced through. This song especially the lyrics was my son's life. The flaming. Represented Matt's faithful race to the end it didn't waver. I remember laying on the floor next to his bed waking up it just a little bit after 3:00 in the morning treated I reached up and could feel the fever in his hand. I jumped up and felt the burning on his forehead. Right away I thought of getting morphine which was one of procedures I had to do. I was so tired that night. I had no strength left hardly to get turned on another wisers and his Vapor breathing treatments. Many nights I had to watch him 24 hours. I was surviving the 3 hours of sleep with cat naps for over a year. I asked God many times is this needed. A soft inner voice would show me trust me like job I'm God and you're just a man. Know that I'm perfecting that. And no that is still being used he's just letting you and many others. There's so many God stories in this life. Even on his last days he called The Atheist to consider Jesus. I had a long talk with this man approximately a half a year ago he was one of the hospice nurses. That first night I talked to him Matt was having tremors fevers and a hard time breathing. His blood pressure off the charts and not normal. I told Curtis I know the drill and told him my complicated steps to perform on Matthew. This man named Curtis said Joe that's textbook. Maybe try some extra cold packs under his armpits and be ready to use morphine in 2 hours again if needed. I told him to have hospice on standby. I couldn't stop talking to Curtis that night I asked him if I could just talk to him and he said sure. We talked for almost an hour madspace. I asked him if he was a Christian and he said no but Matt's faith is so inspiring. On the day that Matt's Earthly Journey was completed I called hospice to come and document at staff. Right away this man said that's faith will carry him and soul yours. I didn't know it was Curtis I asked how he knew of Matthew. He set everyone in the hospice at Grand Rapids no Smith story.. then with a soft voice he said Joe don't eat all who this is this is Curtis. Matt's final moment still Witness to an unbeliever. Yes Matt's life was full of meaning the world couldn't see it but God and his people could. I always soak in these words many times Elijah by Rich mullins. I knew Rich had a complicated life but I sincerely feel Jesus was in his heart. May God inspire you who read this in many ways. I am in prayer. Find the Lord in his word.. finally find him where his holy spirit lead you
