Mike's Comments Corner: Use Your Shoulder To Compress The Golf Ball
Wish I. Hold throw but my lead arm is my dominant arm.
Great point on loft, Mike! I think a lot of golfers out there are probably playing too little loft. Loft can be your friend, not just for getting the ball into the air, but also for generating spin! Spin is not the enemy! Spin will keep the ball in the air and mitigate sideways misses.
That really was excellent, good enough to make me subscribe
Good presentation of the differences between the two swing types.
They took my left knee 3 days ago; arghhhhhl Will be a thrower regardless. Will work on my conservation of angular momentum with a throwing action,
How about an inbetweener?
Just recently i became a thrower. For 30 yrs ive been a puller. The reason i was a puller is im left eye dominant and it worked very well for me. Now at 61 im not as flexible as i was at 31. Im big in the chest and at 5'7" tall my buddy calls me the "brick" 😅 He used to play on the old nike tour and he started teaching me the throwing technique. My yardages havent changed much and the swing FEELS easy and powerful and i have to say my accuracy has improved. Im a 12 hdc and hope to get to a single digit. Time will tell
set-up turn the shaft 90° clockwise (lefty: anti-clockwise) lift your arms wrist-action? let 'Newton' do the work; he knows better and can't go wrong (wrist-action depends on high fast u r lifting) believe me, I am a poker-player Das ist deutscher Humor
Throwing works for me, but pulling works better. I’ve spent years doing both and mix and matching. Find what works best then stay away from instruction teaching the other method.
Thanks!
Different moves😊
My grandfather, 50 years ago, used to say “ let the club do the work” this is exactly what he meant
Thrower! Thanks to my PGA professional Dick Raber.
The ONLY 2 things he gets wrong is why 'throwers' produce draws: (1) They hit draws because the throwing action is down/out on the plane angle (2) Right Arm Swinging (Throwing) does not require bigger/higher arms. Other than those 2 things this is great. Homer Kelly's The Golfing Machine covers this topic (right arm swinging) quite thoroughly but is difficult to understand for most golfers. People like this gentleman here, Cooper Osborne and Tom Tomasello demonstrate (right arm swinging) AKA throwing quite well. There are other throw type releases as well so a world of fun to discover.
There are a lot of great tips in this one video. I played yesterday and felt what Mike was talking about and had the best iron ball striking rounds in a long time. I gotta trust it with the driver, but I am taking it to the range this week. Mucho gracious
nothing about club path or swinging inside to inside. if you try to use your left arm to pull or your right hand to throw you will always generate some sidespin. it's better to use your lower half and just swing in a circle. the ball will fly wherever you are aiming.
there is a third alternative you didn't mention....for those of you who don't want Dem. or Rep. (fade or draw) and that is to hit the ball STRAIGHT
I am 65 and stiff, I think throwing is my best option. Thanks for showing me the difference. Good video. Thanks
seems like throwing in your example is happening pretty late Mike? What about those Pros telling you to throw like fishing allready from the top of the swing? Is that also a potentially good solution Mike?
For the first time after hundreds of videos understood the issues with my pull swing. Thank you
This guy is telling u everything by telling u nothing. He probably knows how to hit the golf ball straight and scores in the 70's but he doesn't quite understand exactly how he does it. The way he explained things just doesn't make any sense to the average golfer. That's how u know he doesn't know. If he knows, he break it down so quick u will get it in a few minutes.
Just back from the range where ive been trying to get my left hand through the ball , i have never hit so well so easily , this is before i watched this video and it totally explains my predicament im naturally a puller but have been trying to throw , its quite a revelation just adding a bit of pull through the ball really compliments my throw and the pull feeling allows me to attack more down and through where i have struggled with getting through when attacking down with a throw action . I do like my right hand in the swing but have decided i need the left
I got down to scratch as a thrower but always got too flat and then flippy. I’ve been trying for 3 years to become a puller and it’s not working. I’ve spent $10000 and feel like I’m almost ruined my swing. My handicap is a 3 currently. This video finally helped me understand the difference so thank you! I should probably just go back to throwing and work on my short game.
To be a puller you have to let your body turn fling your arms around. So no pulling down with your arms at all. Your body turn flings them down and around. The softer your arms the better.
Your one handed strikes are impressive !
This really helped me, I’m a puller at 66 yrs old, and hitting the ball so solid! Only issue is keeping my back to the target a little longer
One of the best videos ever made to help golfers get better!
Great video. I changed from puller to thrower but threw the clubhead instead of the handle so of course, way left - watching your video I can see the butt comes first. Lovely tempo.
Thumbs under... thx
It's always a pleasure watching your postings. May I ask you to do an episode explaining the hip turn/rotation? What causes the hip to turn, how to maintain the turn, what other body parts must do to support the hip... Just a suggestions. Thank you .
Thanks, Mike. Trying to improve on my wrist action. This part of the swing really needs work.
I'm a thrower but I don't do it casually. I'm throwing like I'm trying to throw it through a wall.
In the Golfing Machine a Thrower is a Right Arm Swinger. In addition to this video, checkout the videos by Tony Luczak. An awesome right arm swinging instructor.
Make video about driver please
Exactly what i need
Excellent video. My only question Mike is what is the feeling in the lead arm when you are throwing with the right arm and hand.
Nice to watch
Very good explanation
Following through is the secret.
Great video...most people rush and don't turn fully and swing too hard.
Talk too much.
lol I thought the pink rectangle was superimposed on the video until he walked around it😂😂😂😂🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
This is so not true! How come he does swush the club left handed!? Reason the swush is easier but he stops. Pull you don’t pull the club forward you rotate or just turn towards the target and the arm club unit will catapult!!
Great great video. Thank you.
First time something made perfect sense to me.
Throwing the club is way superior, less effort, more distance, beautiful bay draws ,it does however require a special technique not all people can master consistently ,hence why most golfers use the pull technique
This is absolute gold! 🫡
.. great video, important information for those who try to muscle the ball down the fairway. I played the other day with a guy about 5ft11in tall and probably weighing about 150 pounds, he drove one of the greens on a hole measuring 360yds, carried it around 330, unbelievable. He’s a narrow build, amazing 😳
Best instructor on YT. I bet you’d give most of these TH-cam golfers/instructors a rude awakening in a match. Almost all of them explain everything from a pullers perspective because they think that’s the only way to swing a club. Keep it up and you’ll gain a following
Excellent
What about both? I'm left handed, play golf right handed. I pull, but I also extend my right forearm in the downswing towards the ball, right into the slot, for great ball impact and fade correction (similar to tossing a ball at the ball, advocated by many.) The arm is still slightly bent at impact. See 5:50 here th-cam.com/video/WAls-tv2NGg/w-d-xo.html
