I think l remember John Wayne saying that being in this film was his worst regret. One can see why.

Conquers or dictators throughout history have just piled up the bodies of their victims. Where they heroes? Nope, they killed and took what they wanted.

Comparing this film to Sign of the Pagan with Jack Palance is interesting. JP played Attila the Hun far better than John Wayne could play Genghis Khan. Overall, Sign of the Pagan is a better movie IMO.

RKO Radio Pictures was a casualty of this movie. Mr.Hughes sold the studio to Desilu and the company to General Tire a year later.

This is quite possibly the funniest and most baffling miscasting in film history.

Underrated. The battle scenes are massive & exciting. Oddly Wayne's next film after 'The Searchers'. He picked the role himself!
