Front Valance/slam panel condition and inter cooler mounting bracket condition. One horn is beyond repair but up to now it’s the only original part that cannot be repaired. Headlight wiper blade clips need 3D printing or casting because they’re so hard to find at a reasonable price. :(

Sorry another mumbling video and only a short update while I await confirmation of a replacement flywheel. Headlight Wiper motors all ready for rebuild. Front LH Aero / SPG kit removed and mounting brackets and hardware stabilised again ready for rebuild. While I wait for the flywheel some attention is needed to the oil cooler surround. Front brakes also need overhauling. Enjoy! 😱😂👍 #saab900 #r...

I just love the saab900 i had 4 saab,s and now looking for a rag top 900
@@enfield7123 Good luck in your search.. 👍
The "ambient" background sound is and acquired taste. Nice vehicle. Hope you get it back on the road asap.
air conditioning has two fans. it’s not a year/model difference. yours has AC lucky duck!
@@photosofpickles Yes found this out recently. It would be great if it ever worked but hopefully I’ll sort it one day.. 😂
Golly lots of rust over there… & would love the name of the “reputable supplier”…
@@gregj7916 Rust by the bucket full but thankfully and hopefully isolated to the front. No point in sharing because they were a total waste of time for me.. ☹️
Any progress is good progress!
Brilliant work Mark, sorry to hear about your parts delivery woes! It's going to be fantastic when it's done!
Thanks.. Yes a setback but we live and learn. Hopefully now onwards and upwards.. lol
Sad
Those cluches can be a bugger to do. I ended up having to do it with a home made pressure system.
Yes I believe so. 3/8” copper tube formed into a circle or the tool to hold the plate fins back I believe to be needed. Cable ties to hold slave cylinder back and large thin paint scrapers to help slide pressure plate back in. Oh what fun I have coming my way! 😱😂
@MarksMadProjects1 yep, or 2.5mm electrical cable does the trick if you have some laying about
@ Yes good shout, plenty of cable from years of sparking. 👍
I’m following with interest. I have a 1991 900 SPG that I have been continually tinkering with for 10 years. It’s not concurs with 206,000 miles, but it is now in excellent condition.
They are fabulous cars when they run. This one hasn’t drove for 15 years and really fighting me at the moment with the fly wheel & starter motor popping their clogs. Rebuilt starter motor is back in place but I don’t want to ruin it because the flywheel ring gear is toast! 😱😂
The two 10 mm bolts and the frerrel in the ashtray should be all to remove the knee bolster; at least it’s that way on my 1987 900 that I’ve removed several times now.
TBH as I said I never got any further with removal because I was able to access the back of the master cylinder linkage without removing the bolster. I did see on the 86 schematic drawing an extra 2 more bolt fixings midway but didn’t investigate further. 👍
nice wish you could luck!
Good work. I am into a project 900 too, sometimes a bit dautnting so it is good to see someone else being brave :-)
Nice work. Its rare to find these in rough shape, most get scrapped, mine was really bad but is working now. Maybe some of my videos can help you if you get stuck or just ask. Mine is a 1991 T16, not the fancy aero or SPG though. Check for rust for the lower control arm fastenings. I had to weld some new pieces. You can loose your wheels so check those, very dangerous if they are bad.
Thank you. It will need UK MOT certificate. Hopefully it’s last because after 40 years old it becomes exempt. Lots of assessment and welding work to do yet. I will check out your videos.. 👍
Looking good 👍🏿
@@Semi0ffGrid7 one step forward and ten steps back at the moment. 😢
@@MarksMadProjects1 I think it's going to look great when you're finished, it's a thoughtful restoration with attention to detail!
Thanks for sharing your updates Mark. It’s going to be one hell of a car when done. Keep up the video updates. 👍
I have the flat nose 900 Saab as well, it's a 1981 900 Gls 4 door with a boot, yanks call it a notchback. I also have a 1990 T16S 900 Aero slant nose with the later body kit. Everything works and needs a bit of attention to the body & paintwork. Lovely cars! By the way your vids are getting better, very exciting what you are doing here Mark!
@@Semi0ffGrid7 Hi, Thank You for your continued support. Great that you have a passion for these wonderful cars. I have a long way to go and this will be explained in future videos coming soon. 👍
That came out well, the quality of materials used by Saab was outstanding, they just need a good clean and they are good to go for another few decades!
@@Semi0ffGrid7 Yes quite happy with it. It was really warped and hanging from one fastener for years. I’m just stabilising as much as possible for the time being and will rework them later in the rebuild. Into the storage shed it goes. Lots more to get through.. 😱😂
Hi Mark, I think your 900 is very rare being a flat nose T16S! We have the 1990 Aero version non flat nose with a full body kit. From my understanding there are variations with regard to gearbox and other bits. I hope you keep going with these vids!
Hi, thanks for messaging. Apologies for quality of video. I’m fairly new to this and at the moment I just shoot and post without any fancy editing. I hope to improve on this in the future. I’ve watched the market place for some years and the last flatly16s was for sale about 5 years ago in Europe. DVLA only list mine as Sorn in 1986 but not sure how accurate that is. I’m in the middle of taking the front end off but the bonnet has to come off too. Working on a drive under sheets isn’t ideal. Yes I think you’re correct about the gearbox’s. The front changed in 87 and around then the front GB mount changed too. I’m not going into too much detail of the work/repairs and welding because there’s some great guys out there doing that like Seaside Garage, Memphis and Terje’s Saab. I’ll be posting updates and troubles along the way. I guess we’re going on a journey together. 😱 Kind Regards.. M
@@MarksMadProjects1 Hi Mark, sorry just seen this reply, I was subbed to your channel but for some reason I had to resub just now, however I did change the name on my YT, maybe had something to do with it. I am now catching up with your vids. I left another comment on one of your recent vids. I am very interested in what you are doing so will follow your progress as I want to work on my Saabs too. I know this sounds a bit forward but maybe you should consider building a garage, obviously that pre supposes that you have space and access for one. I am in the process of doing this myself. I am in Grimsby, whereabouts in the country are you based?
@@Semi0ffGrid7 I have a garage but it’s full of years of hoarding junk. Sadly wouldn’t fit the Saab anyway. I struggled but managed the Mini restoration but not the ideal working environment. I keep thinking of all those enjoyable welding splatters to follow and raining down on me. 😱 I’m UK NW based, hence the breaks in the short videos and waiting for better weather. I hope to cover in as much detail the differences between 1984-86 Turbo’s and the changes that came around 1987. Handbrake changes etc. 👍
Hi Mark, I just found your channel, we recently bought a 1990 Saab 900 Aero T16S with a manual 5 speed transmission so I will be very interest to see your progress! We intend to restore it along with 1996 Saab 9000 Aero. These are great cars, very unique, well designed and engineered and deserve to be saved!
@@Semi0ffGrid7 Hi, Yes had this one nearly 30 years and a hell of a car back in the day. Handled amazing but I guess they should as they were built to drive in snow. I’ll update as much as possible if people like yourself are showing interest. Enjoy your restorations.. 👍
haha feel it. did some work on my brother 900
900’s Built like a tank and rust like a tank.. 😂
Sadly I’m new to all of this. I hope to grow my channel with everyday tips that I encounter while restoring my main project being my Saab. I’m wise that with Saab I will encounter many challenges including finding original parts. What I’m finding is parts are few on the ground. The technical side of TH-cam is a challenge but please bare with me. We are all capable to learn, while being grinder & welding burnt. 😂
Me too but for the time being and to keep the originality it’ll have to do. 👍
