Allah says, ‘And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.’ (Surah Luqman 31:14). However, Allah also reminds us, ‘But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness.’ (Surah Luqman 31:15). This teaches us to honor and obey parents while also ensuring our actions align with truth and understanding. It’s about finding a balance-respecting their wisdom but always reflecting through the lens of our faith and reasoning. We are not meant to be carbon copies of our parents. Start with pure sincerity for what your seeking forgiveness from. I don’t do it for a set amount of times. I just do it based on my emotions. And stop when I get very emotional. Then I proceed to make a dua while being emotional

No, I honestly do istighfar purely for the forgiveness, what happened was that when I kept doing it, I suddenly started remembering sins I did in the past and was seeking forgiveness from them. Doing istighfar for me, keeps me humble, and when I make a dua for things I want to achieve or have, it keeps me grounded, and after I make the dua (visualize) I put the actions in, and let الله take care of the rest.
