This past weekend was the Light, Camera, Fashion photowalk hosted by Adobe, Harlowe Lights, and of course, Travis Keyes. I spent the last couple weeks wandering around Spring Street in SOHO, New York with my Leica M246 Monochrom and Rollei 35RF. Between the two cameras, I used my Thypoch Simera 28mm f1.4 and 50mm Summicron. All of the film included here is Kentmere 400 developed and scanned by myself. I had a lot of fun photographing along Spring Street, particularly in front of Jack's Wife Freda. I also managed ...

Beautiful shots!
I can smell the leather bound books and rich mahogany from here
Thank you for sharing the light of your creative spirit with us.
Great recap ! The footage came out right !
Keep it up dude.
Just rolling through a few videos with the Simera -- it's interesting to see the ability to switch between ~F5.6 for street work and then drop it to 1.4 for what you would usually accomplish with a 35mm. @0:23 -- leading out with a strong moment! The color blue seriously holds it down with this.
@3:11 is spicy man. There is so many layers to the image. The one shot from the Summilux 1.4 @4:11 still makes you want to magically come across $6k to spend. It was good to hear that you didn't hate the weight and size of the Simera. That has been my big question when deciding between this or one of the F2 variants.
Looking great
Some banger street portraits there!
Picking up
Lookin forward to the Hung Supply bag setup!
Very nice work!
@@donjagoe thank you!
Good to see you on here Shawn! Just got recommended this, good stuff!
Love this. Great video. So glad I found this!!
When I go out to shoot street photography I generally carrie several things with me. 1. I prefer to use Sony 135mm and 85mm GM prime to keep my distance from people that may not like their pictures taken. 2. I wear a shirt that reads "Never Underestimate a photographer who's also a U.S Veteran" (got it on ebay) which sets people at ease. 3. Positive Attitude! I walk around with a smile, say 'hello' to everyone. Lastly, General rule: Whether positive or negative, the energy that we emit into your environment effects the outcome of our day. Think happy and smile. Smiles can be contagious 😊

Great work! Thanks for sharing! Do you have any suggestions for people who are just starting to explore this and don't yet have a portfolio of pictures to share from yet?
@@dsblairphotos I started by photographing people in my immediate circle. Then I had an idea for a portrait project and posted calls for participants on Facebook, Nextdoor, etc. There were people who wanted new photos for social media so it became a trade for time.
You don't need a portfolio to do street portraits. Rather, it's a great way to build one. Will having one to show, like suggested in the video, get you more yes's? Probably, but it's really not needed.
Hey~ really splendid unboxing!🤚
@@eprohoda thanks!
Hey , love your video. Thanks for sharing. Keep up with your journey. M246 Monochrom is a great camera. I’ve been shooting with the Q2 Monochrom and love the results but do like the option of changing lenses in the M Series.
@@darinwatkins747 it is nice to change lenses on occasion. I have a Q as well but I love the manual focus experience too much to leave my M behind.
Superb video Shawn. Your work is amazing 🙌
@@DiscoverDoubleBass thanks so much!
I've been shooting 35mm on apsc so technically 50mm equivalent, so when you said that about distance to be shy, I thought, "I totally get this." And you're right: if I don't go out, I won't get the snap. Great post. Great advice. Keep going!
@@ChrisBrogan thanks! Keep at it!
Brand new subscriber, Shawn. I love the video, including the content, but also the music, the way you put it together, everything. Very nicely made. I got some great tips and advice, which is why I subscribed. :)
@@ChrisBrogan thanks so much! I appreciate it!
May want to linger on the photos a bit longer. I couldn't really take them in before they were gone. Nice shots from what I caught though. Also a M240 NYC shooter ✌️
Great stuff shawn

Thank you!
were there fireworks ? I was tempted to photograph brooklyn but I just shot around soho / greenwich village
I commend you for not only braving the crowds yesterday, but also getting this video up so fast! I had big plans to go out yesterday and the heat compelled us to stay home. You got some great shots! Loved the rollerskaters dancing, and the zoom in on the iguana! Also all the photographer portraits 👌👌
@@RumoHasIt thanks so much! I appreciate the kind words. It actually felt pretty nice with the breeze off the water. I was out for like five or six hours.
Check out the Voightländer 50mm F/1.2.
This was a neat little review. Great to see someone outside for once, instead of the desktop studio setup we usually see in gear review videos 😅
Thanks!
the wobble you have can be fixed easily. the front group does not have separation is has a specific haze. In my experience this lens does not suffer from schneidereitis but has small circular haze build up on the glass that reflects on the black paint and looks like schneidereitis. The front group can be removed and the glass too but by a very good craftsman who can cut the edge with a fine saw. I did this yesterday after buying this lens after watching your video. I have a decade of camera repair experience and even for me it was challenging to work that precisely while cutting. I am located in Austria if you ever wish to get it serviced.
Thanks for your comment. I actually just use the lens when I want some extra character in my photos. Otherwise I use a different 28mm. I appreciate the offer. Will keep you in mind if/when I decided to get it repaired.
@@ShawnPBruce the wobble you can fix yourself! in the back you will see that there are two retaining rings, one around the back element and one outer ring with two notches, using two flathead screwdrivers, or better a lens spanner wrench you can tighten it, doesnt need to be too tight just enough to not wobble. its a cheap fix and id recommend doing it
Thanks for the review! Do you feel like the Leica 28mm 1.4 is that much better than the Typoch? Like how much sharper did you feel it was
I haven’t really had a chance to test the Leica 28mm Summilux enough to make a conclusion. The Leica lens design is ten years old now, so depending on what advancements they’ve made in manufacturing or glass production, the Thypoch could be pretty even. I’m still using my Thypoch 28mm daily and love it. It’s been fantastic.
excellent video, your photos are so organic from the 240, what lightroom profile do you use ?
Thanks! I can’t exactly remember what I was using at the time. Probably RNI presets. That’s what I still use today.
@@ShawnPBruce thanks alot, ill give those a try with my 240
I think you pushed me over the edge on this lens. Loved your images-nice work!
Thanks for the kind words. I hope you like it!
Great review and thank you for posting. Love the images from the lens.
Thanks so much!
Keep it up shawn!
Thank you!
I love that Leica 28mm Elmarit asph.
I’d definitely like to try the tiny Asph Elmarit. I’ve heard great things. I’m using the V3 lens, which has some character, but I’ve loved it.
When you mean V3, are you referring to the summicron 28mm?
I’m sucked into the leica world now 😅 the Elmarit 28 has been great. But feeling like I want that wider aperture and more light versatility. I would save up for the 28 Summilux but I really hate purple/green fringing in general- my eye is super sensitive to CA so no way I can justify 5k+ for that noise. Have you seen any fringing with this?
28mm f2.8 Elmarit V3-it's the chunky 28mm from the 80s-90s.
Yeah, that's what turned me off of the Voigtlander 28mm f1.5 too. The Thypoch has been great. There are a couple blog posts with images on my website if you're interested. shawnpbruce.com/blog/thypoch-simera-28mm-f14-review-one-month-and-500-photos-later
These images are insane!!! Beautiful work!
Thanks, dude! I appreciate it!
Looks like you cant cut corners with it... You need to prime the canvas before doing the painting...will solve the light coming through it and will help to not use that much paint. But they look amazing. I think I will start one today
At 2:15 ...the Minolta looks like it was shot on some Agfa or Konica negative film. Looks so good! I love the low contrast and slight cyan tint. It's not good for high contrast scene or landscapes but it shines with portraits! Maybe the lens can use a CLA but as a people lens it works really well.
Gee, whatever did the masters of the 20th century do with small maximum apertures and slow emulsions?.
Great use of the typ246, I adore mine. Really great shots my man.
Thanks so much!
Great job
Thanks!

Bellroy advertises their bag having an internal airtag slippocket. Can you find it in your bag?
Someone else actually asked me about this. There is some room under the tag inside the bag, but my AirTag didn't stay in place. I ended up just throwing it in another pocket.
