Loving this music is not a "figgment" of my imagination. It's just great and threatens to end up sounding like the "Macarena". Vic Mizzy is awesome!

The instrumentation and arrangement style of this Mizzy piece is very much reminiscent of Esquivel

This sound is not only vintage Mizzy, but vintage Knotts! (Even if I hadn't known Don Knotts starred in this film, I could have guessed it from this song).

Surf rock grop active between 1963-1968 in Los Angeles. formed by Westchester High School students Howard Kaplan (aka Kaylan) Al Nichols, Chuck Portz. Origionally called The Nightriders, the group became Mark Volman, Don Murry from Ingelwood High and Dale Walton(plus the other guys mentioned) Walton was replaced by Tom Stanton-replaced by Jim Tucker. in 1963 band changed name to Crossfires. after playing surf music for awhile the Beatles and the British Invasion made Mark and Howard put down their saxes(so sad sounded so neat) and take up vocals and the band dropped their repertoire of surf music, and grew their hair long. the band wasn'[t makiing enough money(two of the members were married), and the night the were handing in their reignation(at the place they were playing) they were approched by Ted Feigin and Lee Lasseff who signed them to a new nameless record label(White Whale), also changed the name of the band to the Turtles. the band had several top 40 hits but broke up in 1970. Drummer Don Murry married his high school sweetheart Kathy and was later admitted to a hospital in January 1996 for ulcer surgury, and died three months later of complications. as far as i know the rest of the guys are still alive. any more info greatly appreciated.

1963, this entire album (Out of Control) was recorded back in 1963, all of it, not 1964-1965 as many people say.

I haven't heard this one in decades! Dig that sleazy/steamy sax. The guitars are a classic six-string surf rant. This is still king tone, baby! Thank you, Little Steven for playing this gem last night (on The Underground Garage)!

Tom Stanton, one of their original guitarists formed an awesome trio, The Surf Kings, out of Oceanside, CA. Every now and then they get together and blow the place up! Up From the Depths is an unbelievable album, a must have. Google them.

It's so great that this band included members that would later form The Turtles. I heard this (for the first time in decades) on Little Steven's Underground Garage. I nearly forgot about this gem. This is king tone, baby!

This is reminiscent of the kind of themes Mizzy wrote for "THE DOUBLE LIFE OF HENRY PHYFFE" and "THE PHYLLIS DILLER SHOW"...and it was for Don Knotts' final Universal film (1971).

Al Nichol is said to have got the inspiration for this one from looking out on to a beach with many surfers and their boards - a fiberglass jungle. Much underated over time but enjoyed here.

This obscure 1963 instrumental was performed on the Capco label by the group that, two years later, became known as THE TURTLES. As The Crossfires, the L.A. group also has another obscure record ("That'll Be The Day") on the Lucky Token label.
