I live in Oxford and have never been to any of these places

Its not the same route Harry took to Hogwarts, its a portion of it. The Hogwarts express went from kings-cross to Hogwarts however the train does follow a portion of the line where the films were filmed. However both stations used in the film where in England and the train was filmed in Scotland to give the appearance that it went from London to Hogwarts. The station at hogwarts is attuly part of the North Yorkshire moors railway (NYMR) Also the funny thing is the name 'Jacobite' is were things get interesting. The Jacobite is the name of the engine that was used in the film however west coast railways the tour orator has called the rail tour the Jacobite. The engine on the front of the train you took was a 5MT Black 5 not the actually Hogwarts express engine. This also means there has been time where the' Jacobite' has been pulled by diesels like class 37s but because the tour is named the Jacobite it's not false attiveritsing lass 37s but because the tour is named the Jacobite most harry potter fans don't think about it they just see a steam train and a route from the film The whole idea is quite interesting. I hope I didn't ruin the 'magic' to much.
