I found this video while researching if there was any way to have fun with this game and everything you said is true. I've been main genji since ow 1 and currently it's horrible to play with him if you don't have a duo that accompanies you with Mercy or Ana, whenever I engage in support they turn into immortal beings due to the self-healing passive and I I only die at the end, this frustrates me a lot which makes me do alt+f4 more than I would like in this game. Blizzard should remove these passives and do exactly what you said, leave characters with their own passives and add an effect that protects you from counters

5:20 it’s not 50 hp it’s 25% of your max. Most characters this is 50 hp but on tanks or higher health characters this number goes up to 150+. Lamp was originally 10% but they buffed it to 25% in ow2 and buffed the cd.

How to make ov2 fun?,,, well i play ALL the ov2 characters yes i do mean all,,, i dont Really care about ranks,,, i find 1 trick style extremely boring, (mercy especially) its probably why i also enjoy mystery hero the most, because it always keeps things fresh and unpredictable, and i like that a lot, having fun is my biggest factor,,,, yes i know i get toxic people saying im trash and blah blah blah, but im having fun while others get stressed out over a digital rank symbol on a tv screen haha lol,,,ps multiplayer games get their servers down eventually so, i have no need for leaderboard either

i like the hero passive idea. its a moba fps after all so more neashs for one -dimensional / struggling characters could be nice in reducing the feel of counter picks. i dot agree about ow 1 being this counter heavy. the off tank helped alot with that.

i like how you have to counter characters makes it so you have a reason to not just main one character the whole game get really good at then relies it’s too repetitive and starts to get boring the longer you play it adds another level of challenge by needing to counter that i think is really fun

I mean yeah. That would be nice but what would be the point in having different characters with different strengths and weaknesses if everyone just had strengths. You would effectively have 37 almost identical heroes just with a different skin on. In my opinion they should just let you ban certain heroes for the enemy team like in R6 or league. Your team votes for like 4 heroes to be banned at the start of each game maybe? To prevent hard countering. And maybe make it so there is a cool down between switching characters and a limit of amount of times you swap in total, say a 2 minute cool-down after your first swap and you only get to swap once more? That would be the partial but only viable solution imo

Counter picking in overwatch is not really a thing. the number one player plays phara but with this logic he could just be countered with a hitscan but he still wins there is no counter to outplaying

It doesn’t matter. Your in game rank is not real and doesn’t determine your MMR. The system is designed to make a good portion of matches lopsided. Play in a stack if you want to rank up.
