Magellanic Penguins on the Beach at Punta Quilla, Argentina
An hour-long walk over a pebbly beach brings you to a big colony of Magellanic penguins, which nest in late spring/early summer. We watched their growing and fluffy chicks in awe as well as some of them standing on the beach and swimming in the ocean.

      Thanks. We purposefully looked for this model for a while. :) For us, it was all about having the “lowest footprint” for South America, which sounds a bit funny as we appear “massive” in countries like Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia with its narrow streets in towns. I have to admit that our camper might be a tad overweight these days… :) Happy camping! Other than the crappy fuel economy, we love our truck. It’s perfect for down here.

    • @roamingabout
      @roamingabout ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jasmine! Thanks for swinging by. We really love this set-up (we researched this model before deciding it’s what would work best for us), mainly because of the extra floor space. Ideal when traveling with a dog. Every day, we are glad with the space inside. It’s like a little condo in the back of a short-wheelbase truck. Crazy. But, while in the US, this is a small camper, here in South America, we are quite big and wide to drive around small villages. Still, we wouldn’t give up our comfort. It’ll be perfect for Patagonia. The bathroom had a plastic, curved, sliding door, which we removed. It took up too much space when open and we worried it would rattle too much and jump out of its track on dirt roads, which we take a lot. Now, we only have a curtain.

      Right. It’s a bit tricky to take off (actually that’s the easy part), or better, put back on. Practice makes perfect. My husband and I are a team and do every maneuver together. We actually added extra boards to the sides of our pickup bed, so the camper is square and doesn’t move much when driving. But, this means we only have about 1/4” of space on each side, between the wheel wells, to load the camper. It’s very tight, but we are getting good at it. :-)
