FIRST LOOK AT OUR OFF GRID PARADISE | OFF GRID AUS | VIDEO #1
The best thing we did for climate control when we lived in a shipping whilst building our home, was my partner built a pitched roof over it. Changed the temp inside by 4-6c over summer. T was about 20-30cm above the containment so breeze blew between.
Thanks for the Aussie content, much appreciated
Just noticing the Landy in the background 👍
we have 5 now, one D1 that built with 4" lift, 33's and all the fruit and 4 Series 3's all in various stages of build
@offgridaus oh dear. I feel sorry for you 😂
Still working for the man then ? Just like the rest of us ! Luvyall
Took off my Cyclone landscaping gloves and sat down to watch some youtube, and saw those gloves in a thumbnail and clicked! :D
I was told it would cost me from $50 thousand to get solar for small 3 bedroom home victoria so I still don't have power
yea it can get expensive if the home wasn't designed for power efficiency and set up for off grid. Our container home we built is setup for 12v like a caravan and used an inverter for all 240V. This entire setup cost me just over $3000 and we have A/C, fridges, lights, everything we need.
One question mate..When trying to live off grid from utilities in Aus. do the local and national Government pretty much leave you alone? Do they pester you with permits for this n that etc like in the city?
They are fighting the whole off-grid living for the fact that they can't extract more money out of us for land rates, etc if we are self sufficient. But that being said the rules are different for every council and full of loop holes. The more remote your land is and the bigger your block is the easier it is to build what you like. It's not impossible to get it all permitted, just expensive and not as common yet so it makes it difficult.
@@offgridaus Thank you!
Here in the Philippines we bought 50 meters of 3/4 black water pipe, reeled it up using wire, put it on the roof for hot water..Because its piping hot in the day we bought a mixer tap and hooked up the cold and hot to that..Works like a dream!
Just started my journey into tiny homes/container homes and what-not as I'm looking into getting out of the rat race in a few years time. So chancing by your video has given me plenty of food for thought. You've done great stuff already and wishing you all the best with it going forward. Thanks for the content.
grow a gragon fruit on the mesh, pretty hardy and will do well with minimal water should get good fruit in 2 years
Your videos are all over the place unfollowing
no worries :) thanks for the input
Keep it rollin' ,we're watching.
Passion fruit vine for the trellis
Keep the tyres.. stack em two high and plant some fruit trees in them..
Keen to see a full walk of the property. In one of your first videos I think you said you had about 40 acres, so you must have a bit of bush down the bottom on your land too. Any plan to build some trails or anything?
Consider adding a simple locking pin/bar/bolt or similar to the bracket, so that it can't be accidentally knocked off the rail once it is in place.
Plant passion fruit
Hopefully you will be able to do the video on the inc shower. Cracking idea. Love it
Great to see what you've been up to over the colder months. You've not been taking it easy at all, have you. lol. Goats are great for clearing land so if you've got areas you still need cleared you can set up mobile/temp fencing for them during the day & back to their main pen at night. With the reo between the trees, you could put some kind of fruiting vine if wanted a food crop, or even something like malabar spinach. Another option would be to look up your local landcare & find a vine that's native to your area to plant there. I'm looking forward to seeing the setup you build in the new car for your trip. You all certainly deserve a holiday.
i was just winging it🤣
I can't see how to get the $50 discount for the battery thanks.
When you check out use the code offgridaus12v and the discount should be applied. I just checked it and it still works. let me know if you still have any issues and ill get it sorted asap :)
how easy did the council let u build
Every council is different with their rules. Ours is not fixed accomodation (its still movable because we did not fix to ground and retained the lifting points), no internal cooking facility's and no internal bathroom so we don't need building permits for this setup. similar to how people can live on a block of land in a caravan for a set period of time while things are in the works for a more permanent situation. We will need approval for our next building tho as it will be a fixed structure so we will inform everyone on that process once we get plans finalised etc :)
Pros - that missing wheel nut will kill you!!! Me (who learned to drive in a Series II at 12) - yep , sure.... I've got similar setups for my water, but I don't have much of a slope to work with so I had to get a transfer pump. I can get 10kl delivered, but it costs a few hundo per load and I don't use much on my own, so the run to town is fine. I always preferred a little house and big deck, rather than a big house and little deck. Passionfruit vine would be good for the rebar grid. Nice and green, pretty flowers and some fruit. Pretty hard to kill as well. Might be a bit of acid in the soil from the trees though. Bumpy looks a lot like me....good looking goat right there.
Plant a source of food in between the trees. A vine grapes, passionfruit etc or go down the espalier path.
@@johnread1984 great idea! I'll look into those this afternoon. Thank you 😁🙏
Awesome work! Love seeing updates from you guys :) Tyler is gorgeous! My kids are a just a wee bit older than Tyler so the chooks and that are just work to them now. I miss that excitement! Who did you get to lop your trees? My block is round at Cordalba and not being a local (yet), I've been wondering who to call to take down a few gums.
Love the progress. All I thought to grow in the mesh was cucumbers lol. But you could do climbing roses. Tyler did a great intro with the goats well done 😊
Climbing roses sounds like a nice option. Just want it to look nice as it's up on the fence line. Tyler is still nervous in front of the camera but he will warm up to it 😁
Getting more done than me. Keep at it Rome wasn’t built in a day. I’d be keen to see the travel and car stuff on the same channel.
Thanks legend! That's it, I just need to keep chipping away at it as we get the funds in. Will sprinkle some travel in I think 👌🙏 see how we go aye
Genius 👌
Thanks legend 👌👌😁😁
Have enjoyed the progress from the start, More vids would be great.
Thanks legend! There will be more to come 😁😁😁
Fantastic too see an update and cannot wait for more content 😀
Thanks mate! Keen for the next adventure!
Awesome progress mate love the channel ❤
Thanks legend ❤️🤙
Cracker dust or crusher dust 🤔
Sweet set up
thanks legend, always a work in progress! keen for the main house build to start then we will refine the current setup into a granny flat/guest house :)
Next time at least wipe the container with something its not the Paint letting you down its the Container with Glues or something similar on it!
yea, will do that for the next one. So far so good on this paint job tho. no peeling or bubbling so far :D may have just got lucky I guess :)
Mate, well done with your videos! Don't stop, I've learnt a lot from your videos, they've given me courage to step out and soon do something for myself
Thankless legend! that's the go, we had no idea what we were doing when we started, we just knew we wanted to give it a shot... so far so good! :D
No Ac in the container? Have you done a summer of 40c days and no reprieve at night yet? I feel for you, ac at least to sleep in is absolutely mandatory lolol. Its looking really great tho! You should also insulate under the deck if you can too, or under the ply wood ceiling if you haven't. Might help save some energy in summer and winter and make it nicer to be in. Are the plans to build a bigger set up? Or stay like this forever?
Yea, we ended up getting a portable A/C unit for summer and ran that off the inverter. Worked well to knock the heat off before bed and if it just got too much outside during the day :) We are yet to insulate under the deck, but we have put a large rug on the floor to combat the cold floor until we get around to packing the under side with insulation. as for the roof it already has 90mm of wool insulation and works a treat, massive difference in direct sunlight from outside. Plans for a bigger home and additional buildings are in the works, we are doing all of this with our own savings/no finance so its a slow process but it will be well worth it for our family :)
I'm making my way through your videos, and each one is really marvellous to see the growth.
I was watching this video with so much anticipation. I feared the worst with that container, but you handled it like pros.
Hey mate, I've been trying to figure out the legalities of container homes and off-grid in OZ as I don't want to participate in this real estate insanity we've currently got going on. Most of what I've found makes it seem like councils and shires won't give permitting for this type of building; did you find an area that they're allowing it, or is QLD more lax than WA/SA/NT?
Every council has its own rules and regulations regarding container homes and off-grid living. Allot of research is required. And a lot of hoops to jump through. We have our current place as a temporary home while we build our main container home. Similar to living in a caravan while you build. These regulations also change with land size etc... probs not a definite answer you were searching for but best call the local council and get the info to make sure your in the right. Or just buy a big block and do your own thing in the scrub and tell no-one hahaha
@@offgridaus Thanks for that; we are still in the very early planning stages and so don't even have a region of the country selected yet. But it is good to hear that when we do start the shopping for property process calling the council is going to be a mandatory step to eliminate impossible situations. Seems obvious, really...
Just a thought, with the kitchen bench, what if you made a frame mounted to the wall and studs, that way you could do without the back legs all together. It's looking pretty slick mate. Seeya Rob
That's not a bad idea, I can brace it off the uprights that support the window frame 🤔🤔 thanks legend! I'll look into it
It's great to see another update on what's been happening. Yes - life gets busy but it's up to you guys how much of that you choose to share. The new smoker looks great & the kitchen area sure is coming along. Re the flooring, have you thought about using stone or if you want something more temperature neutral there's always outdoor decking, or even a combination.
So true! Using stone is a great idea and would suit the overall look and feel we want too. I'll do some research into what we can use over the next few days 😁🙏
It's all looking good mate, well done. Just one Tip, voltmeters are not good for checking the state of charge on Lithium batteries, but as you probably have a good idea of your power usage it will do until you can get a good Lithium battery monitor later.
Yea we had that issue with the first setup we did, I ended up just using it for a quick trouble shooting point of call. We plan to run another Victron 30/100 solar reg like the ones in the tiny home, that will give us a real time battery specs on our phones for a more in-depth display. The Victron gear is great for that 😁😁🤙🤙
I'd go some big pavers on the floor. Love the sink and the bench and the BBQ
Thanks legend! It's been perfect for what we need. Always a work in progress but always moving forward with upgrades I don't think it will ever actually end 😂🤙
Good to see ya mate! Can’t wait for more
More to come! Thank you 😁
I just said to my family how funny it is to get so invested in the life of people you’ve never met because I got excited when I saw another video from you guys! 😂 Upgrades looking good and I’m loving the smoker 😊
Love that! Haha your not wrong tho, we follow a few people too 😂 Thank legend 🤙🙏
Great video. Keep up the good work. Only thing is I would personally have mounted that power box on the post to give you more room on your bench and less chance of someone spilling their beer in those sockets. Yes I realise they have covers but they won't always be closed hey?
That's a great point, I never thought of that 🤔 I'll look into relocating it away from the bench when we do our next remodel, on the post would still work a perfectly 😁🙏thanks legend!
Bit fancy 🎉
Not far from your location. We are starting our journey of getting setting up from nothing. Getting our new container soon.
nice :D if you need a hand reach out and we will be happy to help :D
I did a solar powered laundry in my garage. Panels, inverter hot water tank and even the washer cost a total of $US 500. All wash cycles use only hot water and the system also helps power my house. th-cam.com/users/shortspEIiw2AvTeQ my solar powered laundry short
