I'm a coworker of Ryan at UPS. I went through Drill Sergeant School Class 6-83 at Fort Jackson SC. Back then we had to go through Drill Sergeant Orientation Course (DSOC) for 3 weeks being treated like privates. Once we completed DSOC we were allowed into the Drill Sergeant Course for the next 8 weeks. It was one of the most demanding schools I ever went to in my 28 years of Army Service. I performed my duties on Tank Hill in those days. It was the most rewarding duty I ever performed. I remember my Drill Instructors from Basic Combat Training at Fort Polk LA (SDS Oliver Magee, SSG Wesley Thomas, and SGT Brown). I remember my AIT Drill Sergeant (SSG, now MSG (R) Gerald Dukes who I still talk to this very day. He was proud I surpassed him and still remember me when I made 1SG/E8. While still on acive duty I ran into so many of my former Basic Trainees and was proud of how they had advanced. I loved being a D.I.

I went to basic training in 1984 at Fort Dix . I remember all of my drill sargents and can still hear their voices today. DS George Spence, DS William Sanderson (ex marine) and DS Peggy Spurlock. Thank you for taking a 18 year old kid and showing him that he was so much more than he thought he was. A-5-3. 2nd platoon

Went the USAR school. We did it over a 1 yr timeline. And it was not an easy course. My sr. Drill Sgt from basic training placed my round brown on my head. Found out my best buddy in school was his son. Name never clicked thats how hard even the USAR school was in 77.

I had amazing drill sergeants on my platoon. My SDS was motivating and dead honest to us, the assisting drill sergeants were just as amazing and didn't waste our time and got us to earn our plaques in company competitions. One DS in my platoon was just a fucking prick😂 DS Sutton wasn't scary or anything, just annoying and pissed us off😂 just glad I wasn't in 1st platoon cause their DS lineup fucking sucked, just pure chaos for those guys, random smoke sessions in the bay, CTA and even in the sticks/weapons courses😂
