The Crucial Role Mapping Systems Play in the Future of Autonomous vehicles - Miriam González
มุมมอง 1203 หลายเดือนก่อน
The key to understanding the importance of digital maps in the context of autonomous cars is learning how autonomous vehicles perceive the road and how they need to react to it in real-life. It all starts with the vehicle figuring out its location: where exactly it is in the world. And it does this by taking a digital map and its sensor data and putting these two elements together. The result i...

We Bought a (Map Store) - Andrew Middleton
มุมมอง 2294 หลายเดือนก่อน
I moved across the country because an old guy I met from a newspaper article gave me his map store. Now I own The Map Center in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. What role do paper maps have in the 21st century? Outdoor recreation maps are what are keeping me afloat. Demand for context and adventure are still fairly high. Most outdoor recreation maps for regional parks and trails are poorly done. I'm cr...

Discerning Undeclared AI-Generated Data in OpenStreetMap - Francis Andorful
มุมมอง 1274 หลายเดือนก่อน
This study assesses the differentiation between human-generated and AI-generated road data in collaborative mapping. A metric, focusing on node density variability, is introduced. Applied to Microsoft AI and OSM volunteer-generated road data, AI data shows uniformity, while human-generated data displays significant variability. Recognizing distinctive patterns allows identification and differen...

Great work Kathleen and thank you to everybody's work that built this and made it available

@26:33 why check the tiles if you have already downloaded the osm pbf data, the names on the tiles are derived from individual street names thus it would be a lot easier to contextualise the name/label field that doing an OCR on rendered tiles as images

For whatever reason(s), not seeing video date; Seattle SotM was July 2016. OpenStreetView now OpenStreetCam: wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OpenStreetCam Editing in OSM with id editor, you have Bing Maps Streetside, Mapillary and OpenStreetCam images. BTW, in my (Denver, Colorado area) experience, Bing Maps Streetside data only from main streets, roads from 2011-2013; OpenStreetCam *very* rare; Mapillary much more popular - and recent (my preferred platform).

Hence why I consider OSM UK's "St." abbreviation as being acceptable to be considered harmful.

I had to review the video a few times to make sure I heard Reynolds correctly; that she and her class are working on global projects because they are afraid of making mistakes on local projects? I hope she's not trying to imply that it's okay to make mistakes on global projects, but not with local projects. I also volunteer and train other volunteers in my local community, and I always remind them that we are working on live data, and that if they are not sure about what they are doing in the class, they should always feel free to ask questions. And, although mistakes can happen, it's always to go back and correct them.
Very interesting talk.

For vector tiles in TileStache you *do not* have to write queries in json. Queries are written in simple sql files (one query - one file). For each layer/zoom you write a query (queries could be re-used per different zoom levels).
