    Hey Mr. Squid. You taught at willowcreek middle school years ago(I think 2012/13?) I was one of your students and just wanted to say thank you and hi. You were a great teacher and I wish I had more time to learn from you! I actually used these videos when I bought a thrift store flute and they were really helpful! I do apologise for being an annoying trumpet player haha.

    I'm thinking about getting the flute. But they're so expensive. So I'm looking up flute lessons to see that I like it, then I'm going to get a flute

    • @flutechannel
      @flutechannel 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +LazerComplex take a look at our channel and patreon page, we can offer help and answer any questions you have. Finding a Yamaha 221 on ebay can land you around 200-400$ and will last for a very long time. They are well built flutes and way better than what you can find in a store.

    • @c_farther5208
      @c_farther5208 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got mine at a goodwill for 20 bucks. It probably needs care but I just try to play it. I'm so bad at this, I have no idea if it is the flute, I doubt it. The thing about flutes, they are usually one-owner instruments like clarinets. Maybe I should have gotten a clarinet.

      Your sound is massive! May you please tell me how you get such a big sound on alto?

    • @swid441
      @swid441 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most players can improve sound by opening up their teeth. Check your mouthpiece pitch on Alto. It should be a concert A (A on the piano). If it's higher than that, you'll find your sound is pinched and thin.

    Thanks v much for this video! I've got a few questions if anyone could fill me in? How many octaves are there? Getting the control to hit them all I think is gonna be a bit of a challenge, especially the lower ones Are my lips meant to be wet or dry? and how difficult is it to become fluent with fingering and to get your 'breath' as my mother calls it? Also what is getting your 'breath'? Thanks v much! also this video has helped me immensely, I was even holding it completely wrong before I saw this
