Mark's comment about foraging for 'food mushrooms, nothing crazy' followed by asking if anyone, by a show of hands, has done ayahuasca. I wanna party with that dude, and I want it to be crazy.

Cutting 1400 pieces a day sounds like a nightmare. Were their blades more durable/bigger kerf? Faster saws? Did they disregard the image after a few long color-line cuts? Were the girls sanding/boxing them as well? I know on a lot of old puzzles it just says 'Over 500 pieces!' on the box, so not all of them were counted which saves a bit of time.

I love how Elyse Luray decides its a feminist piece and doesn't drop it despite complete lack of evidence. In this case investigator bias doesn't taint the story but it really can. I'm a feminist too but see no reason to make that conclusion - she states she wants it to be so and so that's it. AS FAR AS the sports expert goes, you can quickly find images of turn of the century women engaging in cricket, skiing, fencing.. I haven't gone deep for the point but one of my favorite photos is of (I believe) a Saskatchewan hockey team from 1901 with swastikas on their jerseys. Obviously there is no Nazi connotation, the swastika has existed in every ancient culture. Women playing ice hockey, not field hockey might have shocked their 'expert' who seems to have entered the conversation with his own bias. Not far removed in time from their subject nor in location from their expert. As far as the puzzle goes, I thought the image was absolutely beautiful. Love History Detectives, too.

This was such a great and lively conversation, I had to take notes on my phone at the time to remember talking points that would come up. Here are a few that didn't make it in the conversation! 1 - There is "Perfect Storm" of consumer available lasers and COVID creating this amazing opportunity for lots of people to start up a laser cut puzzle businesses. 2 - The thing that we, as the puzzle community, have to watch out for, much like right after the Great Depression, is bad quality puzzles tanking the industry growth. At that time, it was cardboard puzzles flooding the market. The great thing is social media puzzle communities here, because it is easy to find reviews and suggestions on brands to buy and brands to avoid! What is great about the Puzzle Parley and other in-person events, is that they give the virtual communities that we make online a place to finally meet in real life 😻😻😻
