I'm having trouble believing Bacardi would be the better of these two...
Fair concern! I guess it depends on whether it's important for you to taste more of the rum barrel or not, since a big difference is the 2 extra years the Havana Club is aged. I found the white rum just allows the mint + demerara to shine more!

I've always been curious about Michter's, but have been dissuaded by the cost, especially given it is a lower proof offering like you said. I'm a sucker for an old fashioned and will continue reaching for Wild Turkey 101 or Basil Hayden's if I'm feeling fancy 😂. Cheers!
Agreed 100%! Even Rare Breed at its proof point isn’t bad value. Apparently the Sour Mash is really good but I’ll be saving my pennie’s for that too 😂

Yes I think you could get away with using Botanist instead! Especially if you use some lemon zest you should get similar results
