This Theory is Transforming Guitar Playing (Barry Harris' Creation Theory)
มุมมอง 47K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
The family of Dominants is derived from a diminished chord. This powerful theory impacted my playing so much that I had to make this video. Also because I agree with those who say that many modern jazz guitarists sound like Pat Metheny or Allan Holdsworth. Even Pat Metheny himself admits this (in his Rick Beato interview). There’s nothing wrong with modal interchange-it can be beautiful-but it ...

Guitarists never showed me the "Obvious Chords"
มุมมอง 4.1K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
How does a Jazz beginner play a 2-5-1 without learning the basic chords and scale degrees first? Beginners are so often taught a million methods before learning these essential 4 note chords of a key. You need to practise the "simple" chords if you want to play any kind of chord progression.
I overfocused on 251. This Trick changed the game.
มุมมอง 6K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Secondary Dominants as well as Secondary 251's can change the game for every guitarist. Everybody talks about Secondary Dominants but no-one explains how they can transform your entire perception of Music. This video takes a closer look at a specific chord progression and makes easy to play suggestions for you to put onto your fretboard. This video will be followed up by Secondary 251's as well...
A Simple Diminished Minor trick transformed my playing

I understood so many amazing Pat Martino lines after I discovered this easy trick! But improvising with it is not a piece of cake. Take your time and start making your own phrases built on the idea described in this video. Thank you for watching!

    I'm a bit of a jazz noob. I just figured out a bunch of these shapes recently so this video is particularly useful to me but I was wondering if there's a reason to call a C6 (for example) a C6 and not an inverted Am7? I understand they're the same notes and I understand that the C6 has the C in the bass therefore it's a C6 but I learned these shapes as inversions is all. Just wondering if there's any specific reason to the naming of the chords

    • @rocket117
      @rocket117 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      barry harris theory, there's a lot of videos on it but more to the point. C6 using the dim6 (making a 7 note scale into 8 by adding a b6) and going up and down the scale with C6 as your base makes a bunch of inversions. One of them is Am7. There's a lot more to it but that's the basics, and it means we can play any of those inversions if the score calls for C6

    I didn’t understand this one… are you just telling don’t do only drop 2 ? But mix with drop 3 ? I’m going again… thanks anyway, always opening new doors. And what is behind ? A new door, as you know 😂

      No worries, my friend-thank you for your honesty, and best of luck as you continue your search for the next step! This video was really just a brief introduction to the direction I want to take in future lessons. The main idea here was simply to combine two voicings for smoother voice leading. I'll be building on this concept in upcoming videos, but-I’ll be taking things nice and slow. This channel is for people who, like me, prefer a slower pace. If you’re more advanced, though, I highly recommend checking out one of my favorite educators, Ted Greene. He was absolutely brilliant! Cheers and Happy New Year!

    Another dose of total excellence. Love it. I think I might be just under the level you’re pitching at but you’re giving me the sense that I can stretch for it. I’ve just spent 30 minutes on the three or four seconds from 00:31… Missing scale notes? What scale? Is it like a C bebop scale with an A flat in it? There’s an a flat diminished chord at the 11th fret… I’m running at .75 speed and it still flies by! This is by no means criticism. Not at all. You’re admirably concise and the content here is just invaluable. I’ll get back to work. MANY thanks!
